Signature size
What is wrong with my signature size? Is the code too long or is the signature too tall? -- 224jeff6 TALK2ME 22:35, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
The height of my signature is EXACTLY the same hieght as your signature. 224jeff6 TALK2ME 22:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I saw on your page that somebody else had a concern with the size and color of your signature, and you didn't change yours. A bit hippicritical, don't ya think? -- 224jeff6 TALK2ME 22:44, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok, just like my buddy jeffy said above, your signiture is violating the policy. You are cleary not allowed to have a link to an autographs page on your sig. So just checking in to see if my signiture is right. Cheers? -- Carerra"[[User talk:Carerra|Chatter" 23:48, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I did change mine after that user left a message on my talk page and I took the images off, and no, Jeff's signature size is much taller than mine is (Jeff's is 5 pixels and mine is 2 pixels). It says nowhere in the signature policy page that you cannot have a link to your autograph page. It only says that if you do link to your autograph page, you should not use a super font size (like the size of Jeff's signature). Yeah, and I noticed Carrera changed his signature to make it smaller just before he replied here, so it would look like it was never big. Like I'm that stupid. DiligentTerrier and friends 16:44, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
No, I changed my signiture so that I met the guildlines. I did it as fast as I could and then came to you to see if I was correct. I know that my sig was just a huge red blotch and so does everybody else. Sorry about saying yours was wrong and pardon my friend jeff. He's still a little new! -- Carerra"Chatter" 18:57, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's ok. Can we be friends now? (If the answer is yes, please sign my autograph page and tell Jeff to change his signature). DiligentTerrier and friends 18:59, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Of course we can. I like your username by the way. I signed your autograph page. I will tell jeff now but he might have already! -- Carerra"Chatter" 19:42, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Just one small problem, Diligent Terrier. You said that another editor's signature didn't conform to the guideline Wikipedia:Signature, but ironically you seem to be ignoring the fact that your own signature, at 452 characters in length excluding the datestamp, is far beyond the injunction in that guideline to "Keep signatures short, both in display and markup." Indeed many of your comments are mostly signature! Would you please give this matter some attention? --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 19:06, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- It never specifically states the exact length that signatures should be. But it does say the height that they should be, which is why I corrected Carrera and Jeff. DiligentTerrier and friends 19:18, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Do you contend that a 452 character signature is acceptable? --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 19:22, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that most of the code for my signature is for multi-colors and stuff, which does not make it any longer. It really doesn't matter what the signature looks like in the source; what matters is how it looks on the page. In that case, your signature is much longer. DiligentTerrier and friends 20:17, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry, but all of the code in your signature makes it longer. For instance, while I'm trying to edit this discussion and respond to your comment, I have to search a very large mess of formatting to try to find, hidden somewhere inside, the words of the comment to which I'm trying to respond. This is why our guideline says both in display and markup.
- It doesn't do to clutter up the page with unnecessary markup. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 20:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Could you explain this edit on my talk page, please? --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 20:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, maybe you can explain this edit on my talk page where you edited my comment. DiligentTerrier and friends 20:43, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- You've misread the edit. I didn't alter your comment; rather I quoted it verbatim, including a 450-character signature, in a format that would show what appears in my edit box when I reply to your comments. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 20:45, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you are wrong again. Adding html tags around others' edits which affect their comments is considered refactoring their comments because it changes how they look. But whatever, I have changed my signature, and you can go away now. DiligentTerrier and friends 20:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't add markup around your comments, I quoted your comments within markup. Thanks for being considerate about your signature, that's a huge improvement. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 21:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes you did! You added <nowiki> tags around my comments which affected the formatting. (diff) DiligentTerrier and friends 00:42, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

January 20, 2009
Although your edit note correctly states "Although we cannot predict it when he will actually leave office, we know that his term expires in 2009 according to U.S. law," that is not what you have been editing this article to say. You have been editing this article to state as fact that George Bush will leave office on January 20. This is a remarkably silly thing to get into an edit war over. --Orlady (talk) 19:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Legitimate comment deleted
What legitamite comment did I delete? -- 224jeff6 TALK2ME 21:48, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- You didn't delete a comment, you edited one of my comments. That was a standard message, so that is why it said that. DiligentTerrier and friends 22:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, OK. Which one? -- 224JEFF6 SAY SOMETHIN' KID! 00:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Right here (diff) where you pasted your signature inside my comment! A general rule with Wikipedia talk pages is that you never mess with people's talk page comments. Even if it's your own talk page, that does not give you a right to experiment with other user's comments. DiligentTerrier and friends 00:39, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, that? That was where I compared the heights of our signatures. I see how my sig was taller than yours. Mine started below yours, because I had a lowercase "j" in my sig. Well, I changed my sig now, so we can get on with everything. -- 224JEFF6 SAY SOMETHIN' KID! 19:55, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wait. I'm not supposed to mess with other people's talk page comments, OK. But even if they are on my page? -- 224JEFF6 SAY SOMETHIN' KID! 19:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
The general rules for talk pages are:
- a) Never mess with other people's comments even if they are on your own page.
- b) You may move comments on any talk page to another section in that same page, as long as there is a good reason behind why you are moving them to another section in that page. If you do this you must move the comment(s) in their entirety without adding or taking away from them.
- c) You may only completely remove comments if it is your own talk page. In that case you must remove them in their entirety.
Hope these help. DiligentTerrier and friends 20:32, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Personal Attack
What did I do? I thought we were friends? If it was Crittermations just to let you know, he is my neighbor and best friend and I have no idea why he vandalized my page and what he did but he is still my best friend. Can you please respond back? I didn't mean to attack anybody! -- Carerra"Chatter" 12:23, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- No, I am talking about this comment, which is a personal attack. Although it is in the third person, it is obvious you are referring to me. It seems like you have gotten a little nicer, so I will let you off on this one without reporting you. But just remember: if you attack anyone again, that would be two personal attacks, which qualifies for a permanent ban. But I hope we are past this, so let's be friends. :) DiligentTerrier and friends 20:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Comment on 156.34X's talk page
This here is actually incorrect; users can remove information from their talk pages even if they're anonymous. Especially in this instance when his IP is static. He is also a very experienced former account holder whom has had many welcome messages :-) - I hope this clears up any confusion, friend! Take care! ScarianCall me Pat 21:07, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please show me where it says that. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Here! - And he also archives them which is even better! :-) Hope this helps. ScarianCall me Pat 21:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- That only holds true for registered users. Then why would there be template messages designed to tell IP users to not remove messages from their talk pages? DiligentTerrier and friends 21:15, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- "...only holds true for registered users." - Now it's your turn to show me! :-) - This is fun... Bottom line is: no one has challenged this before. Why do you do so now? Libsey has many admin friends whom know policy better than you and I but they have no problem with it... ScarianCall me Pat 21:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- My concern is just that if we let one user do it, we will probably have to eventually overturn the entire policy. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't specifically state that non-registered account users may not remove comments. I wouldn't worry so much about every anon archiving their talk pages... there are only maybe a handful of anon users who do archive their talk pages. Informally, on IRC, a user came along and asked if it was okay for anon's to remove comments/warnings from their talk pages and several (3) users responded "Yes". So, there you go! :-) If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact me. ScarianCall me Pat 22:02, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I understand what you mean. Actually, I wasn't talking about IP addresses who archive their pages, I was talking about IP users who remove warnings from their talk pages, and then when another user comes along, it looks like they haven't vandalized before. DiligentTerrier and friends 22:05, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Please read WP:DTTR
Diligent Terrier, I can appreciate that the information you want to post on Jimbo's page is important to you. First, you need to be aware that many editors patrol that page and regularly revert information from it - several times a day.
Secondly, the threaded discussion happening on that page right now is very important to the project. Have you even read it?
And most importantly - the editor you have templated has been at Wikipedia for a long time. He has returned from a self-imposed exile to defend Jimbo Wales, a man with whom he has had serious differences in the past. That requires a great deal of moral fibre. Don't template the regulars is an important philosophy - it means talk it out. If you have a problem with Giano, bring it up with him directly. Risker (talk) 21:14, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, well that still doesn't mean he has the right to remove message from someone else's talk page. Just because they are a certain type of user with a whole bunch of edits or whatever it is doesn't make it right. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Do not spam my page again with your ridiculous warnings! Giano (talk) 21:23, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the last time I checked, you actually are not allowed to randomly remove notices from other user's talk pages. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:28, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Diligent Terrier, it is also inappropriate for you to add a heading above someone's post on your talk page. I have moved Giano's comment back where it was. You can delete his comment to you if you want, but you don't get to characterize it differently than as he wrote it.
Tell me, DT, why are you posting about that wikiproject on Jimbo's page? Do you believe he's jumping at the opportunity to participate? Of course not, you are doing it for the advertising value of doing so. Well, those kinds of edits are frequently reverted from Jimbo's talk page, which is the one user talk page on Wikipedia where longterm editors regularly remove things. Vandalism. Silliness. Spam. BLP violations. They also address a lot of the issues brought there. Jimbo's page is more a public message board than a talk page, as you well know. Risker (talk) 21:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wow! You are going to accuse me of vandalism for inviting a fellow Wikipedian to a WikiProject? DiligentTerrier and friends 21:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well actually, I was thinking more of spam. I don't think it's vandalism. Risker (talk) 21:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well then why did you call it vandalism? And something is only spam when it is added to an article. Sorry, but a invitation to a WikiProject on a fellow Wikipedian's talk page does not count as spam. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:44, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't call it vandalism. I listed four types of edits that are regularly removed from Jimbo's talk page by other editors: "Vandalism. Silliness. Spam. BLP violations." That's more or less, from my observation, the order of frequency of removals. And I can assure you if you were to post that on my talk page, I would consider it spam. Risker (talk) 21:48, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well I don't care what you consider it. What matters is what the policy says. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:49, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I also don't think it's fair that you say that other guy has more knowledge on Wikipedia policy than I do. That may be true, but it is not fair to say, and are you a mind reader? DiligentTerrier and friends 22:47, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

A little word
- The following discussion is out of chronological order. Participation is welcome by anyone wishing to comment. This box is simply for organization.
You seem to be keen on telling other users how Wikipedia works, ignoring or arguing with established users who advise you differently, and then not applying WP standards when it comes to your own editing. First instance, the one I came here for, is that this is entirely inappropriate. You were pointed to Don't Feed The Trolls earlier - I suggest you link to it and read. Wikipedia is Not a battleground is another. You get vandalised, just either ignore it per WP:DENY or report it to one appropriate venue.
It seems to me that you are getting a little ahead of yourself. I should comment that you may wish to put the brakes on slightly, and see if going slower gets you to your destination a little quicker - without the distractions that may divert you from time to time. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- When was I pointed to WP:DFTT? DiligentTerrier and friends 22:41, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I apologise, you weren't - I misread WP:DTTR in the section header above. So, I now suggest that you do read it, and the others I suggested, and add WP:CIVIL to the list; please and thank you (as in "thank you for blocking that ip that I mentioned in WP:ANI and WP:AN and then reported to AIV") goes a long way to making things more congenial. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:54, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- To be a bit more straightforward, there are things you are doing that give me concern. When I saw your posts on Jimbo's talk page I found them odd and I came here to investigate. I think you need to rethink your approach in a few areas. Terrier should be your nickname, not your approach, as worrying at things with jaws firmly clenched won't work here. You seem to be arguing with quite experienced editors about what is and isn't appropriate... when several people tell you you're on the wrong path, that's usually quite significant. Further, I specifically absolutely agree with the feedback at the start of this section, that warning and then gloating is very very inappropriate behaviour. ++Lar: t/c 02:02, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- When was I arguing with "experienced editors"? And what makes you think I was "gloating"? What warning is inappropriate? I don't understand what you mean by all this. Are you talking about me? I'm also sorry to hear you don't like terriers, but there's nothing I can do about that. DiligentTerrier and friends 16:08, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think you do understand what I mean. Yes, I'm talking about you. No I don't dislike terriers. My goodness. Please think more carefully about what you do and say, and please try to give the impression that you've actually read what advice you're given. The evidence of your arguing is all over this page. You need to change your approach. ++Lar: t/c 18:54, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I still don't understand what is wrong with inviting Jimbo to my WikiProject, and why you call that "odd". Sure, he may be busy, but after reading up on policy (as you have suggested) someone else does not have the right to remove a message from someone else's talk page (yes, even if they are an experienced Wikipedian). So, when someone removed it, and said they had a right to do so, I automatically became defensive. I am sorry if that came across as "arguing", but I was actually right, and if I hadn't said anything ... if I had just gone along with the flow, my invitation would no longer be there. So, maybe in that case the "experienced" Wikipedian was wrong. And I also hate to break it to you, but I was never "gloating" at all in this conversation. And you still never told me what warning was inappropriate. DiligentTerrier and friends 19:10, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- "Well, guess what? I reported you and you are blocked now!!!" ... that's gloating. More importantly, your tone and approach in general need changing. You're arguing tendentiously with me right now. ++Lar: t/c 20:28, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I have already apologized about that. But please remember that was definitely not addressed to an "experienced" Wikipedian. That for an IP address user who had vandalized my userpage and made personal attacks against me. Also, what are the "inappropriate warnings" you are talking about? DiligentTerrier and friends 20:46, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
A further word; User:Lar is one of the most respected wikipedians currently editing. Not only is he an admin, but he has Checkuser rights (the ability to find the ip address behind an account name, and there are only a dozen or less of these highly trusted individuals on en-Wiki), and is a steward - as sort of super admin - on metaWiki. He really is someone whose words, softly spoken as they are, are to be heeded. Put it this way; if Lar decided to block you (and he will do everything he can to persuade you to change and not have to take that decision) then the very few people that would be foolish enough to undo the block (and I'm one of them) will do it only to increase the tariff. I truly suggest that you listen to what Lar, and others, are saying, and follow that advice. LessHeard vanU (talk) 20:54, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. Yep, I've been listening to what he's been saying this whole time. DiligentTerrier and friends 20:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, Less... Diligent: Where did you apologise, I did not see that in this string. It is nevertheless inappropriate to gloat to anyone, even a vandal. It is also inappropriate to argue tendentiously as you are doing now. Please reread the original messages you were left, by Scarian, by Risker, by LessHeard vanU, etc and think about why you feel it necessary to argue with each of them about every single thing, every point raised. Knock it off, or you may find your editing privileges suspended. We need cooperative, collegial editing, not this terrier like behaviour in which you worry every question to death. That wastes time better spent elsewhere. You absolutely do NOT give the impression you are listening. ++Lar: t/c 20:58, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I don't give you the impression that I've been listening, because I have been. Now I'm going to do what you suggested ... re-read all the whole second half of this page, or whatever it is by now. I'm sorry it may come across as though I am arguing. I admit I tend to get very defensive at times. And I'll try to improve my behavior, too. So, can we be friends now? DiligentTerrier and friends 21:03, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- You need to work on the impression you give others, and on your ability to take criticism on board without arguing every point. It's not easy but it's a needed skill to be successful here. As for being friends: I'll resume assuming good faith about your edits, if I see a pattern of improvement. ++Lar: t/c 21:12, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Fake New Messages Bar
Sorry to tell you, but you have to remove you fake new messages bar per this - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:52, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

- I've removed it for you. That makes at least the third person who has removed it from your page in recent days. If you replace it again I will consider that you are engaged in a slow moving edit war and act accordingly. ++Lar: t/c 20:35, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- PS... this reversion inappropriately identifies the edit reverted as vandalism. It is not. Don't do that again, please. ++Lar: t/c 20:43, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Cool. Kimu 19:14, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think I want to do it twice a month, so do you think I should call the editions "Late March" and "Early March", or what? DiligentTerrier and friends 19:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Newsletter
Hi, Diligent Terrier. I signed in the project but i'm not quite sure how i can help now. I shall greatly appreciate if you'd be kind enough to post the newsletter to me, too. I'd like to contribute. Happy editing. E104421 (talk) 22:03, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm glad to hear that you've joined. Our newsletter deliverer Basketball110, just dropped a newsletter off at your talk page. One place where we need help now is with the collaboration of the month nominations. These decide what article our focus will be on for the month. A link to where you can vote on this is included in the newsletter. Also, we need to place our new template on the talk page of all related articles, and also assess those articles. There is info on that on the project page. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'm glad to see you've joined. DiligentTerrier and friends 23:08, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Ownership of WP:Home
Can you stop putting on every piece of Wikipedia about WP:HOME that you are the founder. It reads to me that you are trying to exert undue control/influence. I am assuming good faith and believe that this is something you never thought of, but please stop. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 19:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't been putting it all over WP:HOME, in fact I think the only place I have said that is on the project page and in the members section. I am not trying to exude undue control/influence, and it is inappropriate of you to accuse me of that. This is really a cheap shot and I do not appreciate it. DiligentTerrier and friends 19:44, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I also just went to your talk page, and noticed that you had plagiarized my entire newsletter code and template I created. It's not that I have a problem with that, but the template says that you "designed" it and wrote it. The text is also almost exactly the same and you just changed the name of the WikiProject and other wording where applicable. For someone who complains to me about taking credit for stuff, I don't think you should be the one criticizing me for that. DiligentTerrier and friends 22:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- WP:HOME now says that you are the "Lead Coordinator" a position that you were not elected to. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 23:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I elected myself back when I was the only member. But please, Zginder, come on, I've spend a lot of time getting this thing started, as you can see with all of the pages and stuff there. I also feel very comfortable saying that with starting the whole thing from scratch, I have spend a lot more time on this than anyone else in the project. If what you want is to be a assistant coordinator, you can nominate yourself to do that. DiligentTerrier and friends 23:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I will
tacktake you up on that. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 01:12, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- Why would you want to recall me ... I've done so much to get this thing started? Well, anyway, I was thinking of doing the same thing (posting rules for a recall). I think I would set up the rules to say that you need at least two thirds of the members to vote for a recall, plus a very good reason behind it, which must be related to activities that the user did which related to the project. Or, if the user has not edited at all for more than 2 years, or has been blocked from Wikipedia for some reason, there would be a forced resignation. The user can also resign at any time. I'll probably post these terms on a policy page when I get a chance another time, but gotta go now. DiligentTerrier and friends 01:36, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- I do not want to recall you. I simply want written rules in case they become necessary. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 01:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
talk:Florida
Thanks for the heads up. Indeed I did put such a warning on the vandals talk page, as I always do. He reverted it as vandalism! :) See Revision history of User talk:168.184.242.50. Redlink. Try history tab on User talk:168.184.242.50. I think he ought to be blocked just for that but I don't know how much of an issue to make over it. Student7 (talk) 21:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- You would be better off using WP:Twinkle - it's a lot faster than typing out a different warning each time. DiligentTerrier and friends 21:29, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

The one I just sent out could be the "mid," and maybe on the 21st or something, we could have the "end" of March newsletter. Just a suggestion. Cheers, Basketball110 02:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- Pay attention, I clearly said "Whether it is his intention or not, I agree that DiligentTerrier does seem to be giving the impression that..." - it's entirely possible, even probably, that you're not actually trying to be an ass - which is why I'm warning you that you're failing to give a proper "public image", the things you've been doing and saying can easily be construed to be negative. Whether it's things like adding usernames to the Newsletter heading, or similar things, they appear to be ego-stroking. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 20:10, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:OWN and other issues
There seem to be some chronic issues with regards to your conduct regarding the Homeschooling project. For a project with 64 articles, none beyond B status, there is a tremendous amount of real or attempted bureaucracy being imposed, and your attempts to assert your contributions over and above those of other participants and of Wikipedians generally in this area is unacceptable. It may indeed seem somewhat ironic to the outside observer that your attempts to shut down a rival project actually inspired a revival in that project's fortunes - like others have said, there is no reason why the two projects cannot coexist peacefully. In addition, your canvassing attempts with regard to your own proposal (to the extent of telling people which box to "tick") on the Alternative Education talk page actually reduced your buying power with the audience.
Another thing - do not relocate talk pages to some obscure location that you wish others to find - that avoids scrutiny and puts up barriers to participation. Just because some other non-compliant project does it does not mean we all should - look for example at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia (44,000 articles), Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history (64,000 articles), Wikipedia talk:WikiProject California (14,000 articles), Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television (8,500 articles) and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Canada (21,000 articles), none of which have seen fit to break talk page guidelines in such a way.
I would warn you that, especially given you have already been approached by others on these matters above on your talk page, your behaviour on these matters could be seen as tending disruptive, and that should you not behave in a more cooperative manner and one in line with policies and guidelines, there will be few choices available to us as far as how to handle this situation. I see that you have argued above with other users (including User:Lar, a user for whom I have the highest of respect and who is a bureaucrat, steward and checkuser on en.wikipedia) on similar issues - I suggest strongly that you take what they are saying on board. Orderinchaos 15:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Add to that that removing comments critical of your stance on a project talk page in mid-discussion is highly irregular. See WP:TALK which specifically says: "As a rule, do not edit others' comments, including signatures.". Orderinchaos 15:22, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I never removed them; I just moved one comment down below the discussion section where it belonged. DiligentTerrier and friends 15:34, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- As the diff above clearly shows, you moved one comment by Burner supporting your stance, removed one heading, added three headings and removed two comments by Twenty Years. Orderinchaos 15:41, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Its really quite sad that you have gone from actively working with me, to then blaitantly removing my comments from a discussion (without any reasoning), and then downright failing to own up to your mistake. This is just poor form. Disappointing. Twenty Years 15:44, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I never removed them; I just moved one comment down below the discussion section where it belonged. DiligentTerrier and friends 15:34, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but what I see is that I removed the "votes" header (because it was not a vote - it was a consensus), I moved Burner's comment under the support section where it belonged, moved Twenty Years' comment under the discussion section where it belonged, and I added the discussion header. That was really the way I set it up until someone added the votes header and removed the other three. DiligentTerrier and friends 15:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Alright...just looked at it again, and noticed that I had actually deleted Twenty Years' comment entirely. I promise that at the time I meant to paste it back in there, but I think that was when I added the Discussion header, and went to copy & pasting something else. I'm very sorry, and again, I did not mean to remove the comment from a talk page (something that I never do unless it is blatant vandalism or spam). Please accept my apology and let's work together again! DiligentTerrier and friends 15:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

- Your homepage formatting relied on a <div> tag but the liitle box thingo contained one too many </div> which closed off your formatting rather than the internal formatting of the little box. Hope that makes sense. :) Orderinchaos 17:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Project Founder
When you reverted my edits on here (diff of 2revisions) you seemed to have added back the Founder part next to your name, I dont like it, and I personally dont use it on projects ive started (eg. WP:EIA). Im going to remove the bolding, and hopefully that will be the end of the issue. Please notify me next time if you have any issue with my edits. Thanks. Twenty Years 16:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds great. I'm not looking for power or anything like that - just want people to know I'm the founder in case they have some sort of question on the way I set up the templates, etc. It is something that many WikiProjects do, take a look at them or see WikiProject Council. Glad to hear you've accepted my apology. Let's get that Homeschooling article to GA status! DiligentTerrier and friends 16:02, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Excessive tagging
I'm not entirely sure that you're even reading the articles you're adding the Homeschooling banner to. At least two three seven were not homeschooled and most of them were educated well before the institutionalisation of comprehensive schooling as a practice in the 1840s-1870s or thereabouts. I'd suggest stopping and thinking about the scope of the project before proceeding further - we had to do this over at Western Australia as a lot of stuff peripherally involved WA which was not, however, within our scope. Orderinchaos 16:48, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, some of them were homeschooled for just a few years before going to school, I believe. DiligentTerrier and friends 16:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it's too late you've already reverted them all. DiligentTerrier and friends 17:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't say that in the articles - I read each of them before reverting (at least one received no education at all while others went to school and seemingly did quite well...) The three which were home-schooled I left in. I made a big assumption that the scope of the project is to include every person who ever got home schooled who has an article on Wikipedia in keeping those three in, but I'd again suggest you need to consider what your scope is and what the project is trying to achieve. By this I mean that the fact they were home schooled takes up one bit of one line to at most a four-line paragraph in a massive article in most cases. As WikiProjects' main purposes are to develop or to encourage development, I don't see exactly what WP Homeschooling could do for any of the articles which have been added tonight. Orderinchaos 17:03, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I had assessed them at low importance. Some like Abe Lincoln were homeschooled for a short time, although it may not say it in the article. DiligentTerrier and friends 17:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- History is kind of important here (I should disclose I myself am a fully-qualified educator btw)... before a certain point in history all rich people had tutors or were effectively "home-schooled", but this was done within a framework very different to today and at a time when people could specialise in certain fields and know nothing of the rest of the world. The alternate method (which was mentioned in at least one case) was the "classical education" consisting of the Trivium and the Quadrivium (essentially teaching people how to think, reason and perceive). I've seen modern country schools which work along similar lines, due to class sizes - although of course what they teach is the modern education curriculum. Those who were less advantaged had really few options, most of them ended up working down a mine or in a mill or whatever brought in money for their family, the few who were lucky to learn anything were definitely not "schooled" in any sense, merely somewhat self-taught through a natural intelligence or perception. Eventually society decided that this was not the way to manage things and comprehensive schooling - initially on almost military lines with very poor standards, which improved to about 1900 to something not unlike the system we have today - was introduced and compulsory schooling laws (initially only for primary, extended later) were enacted. Home-schooling was a reaction to this movement (i.e. a counter-movement) much as Montessori and other systems started to emerge. Therefore, discussion of "alternative education" or "homeschooling" must rest within a notion that there was a paradigm of comprehensive education which had been rejected. At various of the times these people lived, the notion of educating people en masse in buildings in a wide variety of subjects would have seemed fanciful rubbish. - Good point. DiligentTerrier and friends 18:58, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I had assessed them at low importance. Some like Abe Lincoln were homeschooled for a short time, although it may not say it in the article. DiligentTerrier and friends 17:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it's too late you've already reverted them all. DiligentTerrier and friends 17:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome
Hi, and welcome to the Red Sox WikiProject! We are a group of (mainly) Red Sox fans who help to improve coverage related to the Boston Red Sox on Wikipedia.
Looking for somewhere to start? Here are a few suggestions.
- You can check out topics on the main page.
- You can add {{WikiProject Boston Red Sox}} to talk pages of Boston Red Sox-related articles, and assess them as well.
- Check out the to do list for the WikiProject, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

Twinkle
According to WP:TWINKLE, the script is to be used to assist them [wikipedia users] in common Wikipedia maintenance tasks and to help them deal with acts of vandalism, I fail to see how this, this, or this falls into maintenance or vandalism. To say that reverting a highly respected administrator, without any prior discussion, is any form of maintenance is downright wrong. I think you owe OIC, at the least, an apology. Twenty Years 17:32, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've commented on all this at WP:RFD. - DiligentTerrier and friends 17:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- You have actually not commented on your use of the Twinkle script at the RfD or apologised to OIC. This may be a minor misuse of the tool, but continued abuse of the tool, can result in you being "de-twinkled". Twenty Years 08:14, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Upon further inspection of your use of twinkle, i have found this diff by User:76.98.204.203, which you claim is Blaitant vandalism. It is hardly vandalism, the edit certainly did not add anything to the article, but that doesnt constitute vandalism. Not only did you incorrectly label their contribution, but you placed two user-warning tags on their talk page, when theyve only ever made one edit to wikipedia [2]. Continued mis-use of the twinkle script may result in you being "de-twinkled". Thanks. Twenty Years 08:30, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Further investigation of your reverts on wikipedia, led me to this this, whereby you reverted a user who removed a warning by a user and added content to his talk page. According to WP:TALK, this user is free to delete comments from his talk page:
- Users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred. They may also remove some content in archiving. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user.
You not only reverted his edit to his own talk page, but you then went ahead and added a user warning template, which according to the above, is downright wrong. It may be worth noting that after your warning on his talk page, he never returned, wikipedia relies on volunteers, and new editors should be made more than welcome, rather than being treated like he has. May i suggest that you remove the warning on his talk page and apologise. Your poor use of editing scripts is causing much concern to me, and some administrators, and you may wish to review your use. Thanks. Twenty Years 08:45, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- In this case, the user changed what the comment said and left the signature at the end. That is wrong. Yes, you can remove notices from your talk page, but when you edit others comments, leaving their signature at the end, even if it is on their talk page, that is considered vandalism. - DiligentTerrier and friends 19:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- So removing all of the other content the user added in that edit was also nescessary? Thats bollocks and you know it. Fix up your edit. It may be interesting to note that since you arrived on his talk page, he hasnt made another edit, wikipedia relies on volunteers, and youve possibly played your part in ensuring they wont return. Thats just poor form, and an apology is in order. Twenty Years 03:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- See also User_talk:76.98.204.203 - was it necessary to add two warnings at the same time for one edit? The edit doesn't seem to be vandalism, just seems to be someone who misunderstands the trivia guideline. (A quick check of google reveals there is indeed an emo band called Pencey Prep who had a song called "Secret Goldfish"). Orderinchaos 21:58, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, and looking back, I'm not really sure why I added that "Blatant Vandalism" warning. I think I was getting that confused with another vandal I was warning around the same time. I'll have to check. - DiligentTerrier and friends 22:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Whilst it is good that you have addressed one of my concerns on this page, there are still two more which have been left unadressed yourself. If you arent going to address them, i may request that you are "de-twinkled", and that your monobook.js is protected. Continued abuse of the tool will result in you being de-twinkled. Thanks. Twenty Years 03:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

- (reduce indent) The concerns about your use of the script in reverting (just under the heading). You havent re-added the content from that IP-users talk page that you removed. My major concern is your use of the script in reverting, so ill let everything else slide, if you look address the concern below (which is copied from the above discussions: Twenty Years 04:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Misuse
- (copied from above discussion)
According to WP:TWINKLE, the script is to be used to assist them [wikipedia users] in common Wikipedia maintenance tasks and to help them deal with acts of vandalism, I fail to see how this, this, or this falls into maintenance or vandalism. You seem intent on not addressing the issue here. Ill let this issue go for now, but further misuse of the twinkle script, and I will take it further. Happy editing. Twenty Years 16:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Removal of content
I note in your edit here, you informed another user that OIC considered the edit by RC-0722 as vandalism, and then went on to say, that it was nowhere near vandalism. On wikipedia, we assume good faith when dealing with other contributors. You also left a message on his talk page "Warning him", for what? following wikipedia policy? Your downright poor knowledge of policy and continued misuse of scripts and user warning template is a major concern to myself, and is something you may wish to address. Twenty Years 04:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Interesting
As a member WikiProject Homeschooling, I thought you might want to look at this. Kimu 16:14, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- See my comments at Elisa's talk page. User talk pages, it should be noted, are not owned by the user they pertain to, but by the community as a whole - while some things are considered differently as against other namespaces, others are not. The matter is resolved anyway - I talked to the user concerned and a way forward for the Homeschooling project was discussed. I would suggest that dropping the highly aggressive attitude would be a good start - I note Twenty Years's comments to you with regard to WP:BITE. Orderinchaos 21:49, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

- I have reverted your edit to my user talk page on the grounds of WP:DTTR and that the claims are baseless. I will not respond to any further comments regarding this. Any further comments can be directed to the administrators noticeboard. Cheers. Twenty Years 17:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- DT, if someone reverts your warnings/notices, we are supposed to assume that they have read them. TY, I'm not sure if you did or didn't, but I know where you didn't assume good faith. Kimu 18:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Saying "you know" where i didnt AGF is just not good enough, you need to cite examples. Seems to stink or OR. Twenty Years 05:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- DT, if someone reverts your warnings/notices, we are supposed to assume that they have read them. TY, I'm not sure if you did or didn't, but I know where you didn't assume good faith. Kimu 18:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, here are just a few quotes from you. I can find more if you want.
"Your downright poor knowledge of policy and continued misuse of scripts and user warning template is a major concern to myself, and is something you may wish to address."
"So removing all of the other content the user added in that edit was also nescessary? Thats bollocks and you know it. Fix up your edit."
"It may be interesting to note that since you arrived on his talk page, he hasnt made another edit, wikipedia relies on volunteers, and youve possibly played your part in ensuring they wont return. Thats just poor form, and an apology is in order."
Also, upon your very first complaint you were asking for an apology:
"According to WP:TWINKLE, the script is to be used to assist them [wikipedia users] in common Wikipedia maintenance tasks and to help them deal with acts of vandalism, I fail to see how this, this, or this falls into maintenance or vandalism. To say that reverting a highly respected administrator, without any prior discussion, is any form of maintenance is downright wrong. I think you owe OIC, at the least, an apology."
That is not assuming good faith. - DiligentTerrier and friends 18:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC) OK, What is baffling to me is:
- Saying someone has misused a script is somehow uncivil or not assuming good faith?
- Saying that an editor hasnt returned after your comments on his talk page is not uncivil or not AGF, its just simply stating a fact.
- Expecting an apology may be a bit too far for you, but in my standards apologising when you "mess up" is the right thing to do, take that as you see it. But that isnt being uncivil or not AGF.
This is just a petty childish debate. I will not return to participate in this discussion. Twenty Years 05:15, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- I must say I'm not actually seeing "bad faith" in the above - I think you're possibly misconstruing legitimate, valid criticism of your actions in an at times robust style as being some form of abuse. Regarding 1.1 - there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. 1.2 - could maybe have used more calm language, but the point is there. 1.3 - he's actually correct, that's a WP:BITE issue. 2 - again correct. He has apologised himself when he's done wrong in times past, so he expects it from others - people in this thing have a wide variety of styles and attitudes and I'm fairly sure if you were to put 5 randomly selected active Wikipedians in a town hall somewhere they wouldn't agree on anything. But we can at least agree to get on, and to abide by policy.
- Additionally, you said you "witnessed" (not experienced, so TY got confused as he assumed you meant it was to someone other than yourself) complaints against an "established and experienced user" and "over something that does not concern [Twenty Years] at all" - it does concern the community to manage behaviour which does not build or enhance the community, that's why anyone from the newest user up can give warnings. Indeed, your behaviour and knowledge/application of policy does concern and has concerned me from time to time, especially regarding misuse of anti-vandalism scripts against newbies and your at times aggressive approach to handling situations. Note how quickly Kimu and I went from a warning situation to one where we were actually chatting constructively.
- Also, I think it's fair to say our opinion of what constitutes "established and experienced" does differ. I'm not meaning to suggest you are otherwise qualified, but when you assert it in public, realise how it may be taken by those for whom the above assertion may appear somewhat like chest-beating (especially given your relatively short duration on the project and the number of issues which have arisen). A bit of humility and deference to the work of others goes a long way, and may well help you in learning what is needed to become what you desire to be. When I was about your duration on the project, I was involved in solid content-building work, deferred frequently to those in my project whom I respected for their abilities (I'm sure at least one of them got thoroughly sick of me), and learned a lot from them. I became an admin in an unopposed RFA just 3 months later (i.e. 11 months in) without ever having had to ask or approach anybody for support. My work in content-building and my even manner were cited by many as grounds for support. Worthy of thinking about. Orderinchaos 20:03, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
That not just not assuming good faith, that downright 'uncivil! Kimu 18:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. In User:Diligent Terrier/Image Link you use [[image:{{{image}}}|{{{size}}}px]]; but since you use the size variable with "px", it becomes 45pxpx, which now results in full size images, too large for your div. HTH – Leo Laursen – ☏ ⌘ 22:20, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
WP Homeschooling Sidebar
Hey, noticed you reverted my edits there. Can we please discuss it on the talk page, BEFORE reverting each other. see Template talk:WikiProject Homeschooling Sidebar, ive been waiting for your reply there for several days. Its generally a good idea to talk about things on the talk pages where reverting is happening, not just leaving a note in your edit summary. Thanks. Twenty Years 06:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
