AfC notification: Draft:Nicotye Samayualie has a new comment

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Nicotye Samayualie. Thanks! Zanimum (talk) 23:17, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I had this article on my watch list so I noticed it today. It's a good article. I added a museum collection and some other technical things that happen to articles when they are published (authority control, categories, Wikiprojects) and have pushed it to article space. Nice job on this. I have made about 50 (very short) stubs for Inuit women artists by scraping the collections of various museums. My research seems to point to that the biggest collections for Inuit in Canada are in the National Gallery, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the McMichael Canadian Collection. I have scraped all those collections except the McMichael, so if you are looking for more subjects that might be one place to check! Good job on the article, and let me know if you need any help along the way with Wikipedia.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 01:12, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Margaret Agnes Bailey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Notice

The article Fern Bayer has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

GNG fail.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --- Possibly (talk) 18:54, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Hello! I see you have deletion notices on recent articles. I can appreciate the effort you are making and would like to give you some advice. It is fairly simple to get notable subjects into the encyclopedia, however they must be notable. Notability here is determined by the presence of reliable sources. My advice is this:

  • Don't publish an article unless you have three good independent sources (RS). Fern Bayer has two sources, and neither are independent, so that one is not going to survive without more independent RS.
  • Keep the articles short to start: let's say under ten sentences.
  • Check the Wikipedia WP:GLAM project for museum and library employees. There are other people from museums and archives on here who may be able to provide advice and support, for example Natharchives works at the National Archives of Quebec.

I hope that helps, and apologize if I have repeated repeat anything you know already. --- Possibly (talk) 19:08, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Possibly:Thanks for the advice and for taking the time to share some resources with me. Hopefully I'll have better luck finding RS for the other entries related to the NGC collection that I'd like to add! Valerie.gau (talk) 19:46, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Valerie.gau: Hi. I am guessing you mean archival collection rather than art collection, but if you are looking to add articles on artists, they are notable if their work is included in "several collections". I have already added 150 articles on women artists from the NGC collection, but I did not add any men from the collection... so there are probably 100s of men in the NGC permanent collection who would qualify for an article. Also, note that RS do not need to be published online-- a citation to a book or old newspaper is fine.--- Possibly (talk) 23:22, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Fern Bayer for deletion

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Your addition to Harold F. Kells has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases which are not attributed to their source may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not upload it. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
