[edit]Hi, I notice you're a Norcal wikipedian (we surely have more; folks are in hiding, I think). Can I ask your help with a most trivial question over at Talk:Los Banos, California? Thanks in advance. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:18, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the delightful mindspillage. :-) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 05:42, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
I really don't think that was a copyright problem and was only to be reported, not deleted. Proper procedure. I'm putting it back the way it was. Please let me know if you think some words create a problem, as I really don't see this as a problem. Thanks in advance. Regards Scott 05:13:15, 2005-08-27 (UTC) Cocoanut Grove, Santa Cruz, California
Hi Scottfisher. Fortunately, it's not too humid out here. I spent about a week out in the Knoxville area when I was 8, so I've been through that Southern heat and humidity.
Anyway, as you might have noticed I just listed the new article you just created, Cocoanut Grove, Santa Cruz, California, on Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it appears to be copied from here. If you look on the bottom of the page, you'll see a copyright notice, so it's highly unlikely that the content on the page is free. I truly hope you don't take my tagging the article copyvio as a personal slight, because it is not. If Jimbo himself posted a copyvio, I'd do the same thing. Thanks for all your valuable contributions to Wikipedia, and have a good one. sɪzlæk [ +t, +c, +m ] 05:30, August 27, 2005 (UTC)
It's generally assumed that material copied from websites is a copyvio, especially when there is a copyright message on the bottom of the page. For more on the subject, see Wikipedia:Copyrights. Around here, we have to be very careful to make sure all our content is free. If you have evidence that the content you posted is free, you can submit your evidence on the talk page of the article and at the article's listing on Wikipedia:Copyright problems#August 27. Even if the text on the webpage is free, it's always better to write your own content. Thanks, and good night. sɪzlæk [ +t, +c, +m ] 05:45, August 27, 2005 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Scottfisher"
Changed my mind, It's getting late here...But we do need to discuss this one as I am curious about text transfer and such?
Cheers...Scott
New day here, I agree with you to a point, However there needs to be a page to capture the historical Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz, California. It's a neat place, was there last summer for my wifes high school reunion.

RFC?
[edit]Not that I mind really, but what was the point of your recent edit to WP:RFC? Radiant_>|< 09:04, September 2, 2005 (UTC)
- Not really, but they aren't grouped together any more... see Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/User_conduct. The RFC page had a table of links, now it has two tables of links :) Radiant_>|< 09:36, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Esperanza made less bureaucratic
[edit]Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Please look at the ammended charter, and I would love a comment. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:31, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
Re: "Please don't put words in my mouth"
[edit]Re: "Please don't put words in my mouth" from my page, you write:
GordonWatts, please do not try to speak for me on your poll in Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship. I have no interest in voting in your poll, and my reverts to your edits do not constitute a vote. Your actions are unacceptable, and could leave you facing a request for comment or even a block. Thank you. sɪzlæk [ +t, +c, +m ] 21:27, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- Since people have said that I should seek concensus, therefore, I asked for your feedback, but you did not give it, and I did not pretend to vote for you. I said "Apparently User:Szyslak opposes per diff" in the edit summary and also "Apparently User:Szyslak opposes. He gave this logic when reverting," so it would not look like I posted. I am damned when I do ask for concensus (as shown by your complain) and I am dammed when I don't (as shown by others’ screed saying I should ask for concensus).
- On an entirely side note, your revert actually hurt the argument that many of you have made that I was not "diverse" enough. You gave this reason for reverting: "rv - this is not a common reason for RfAs to fail. GordonWatts' poll doesn't ban me from reverting this change," but indeed that was a reason my RfA was failing in the initial votes. (Later, people didn't like to be told that the policy was not that strict, but that's another story.)
- So, how should I seek feedback? I asked politely for feedback, and people usually want to only give excuses why they can't come to a concensus on the issues that I've mentioned, e.g., "we can't vote" - "we won't give concensus"-type answers; So, User:Szyslak, if you are all big into the proper way for me to properly determine "concensus," then please tell us the right way to determine the concensus on the edit/revert in question.--GordonWatts 08:21, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
The last time I'm spamming you all with Esperanza stuff
[edit]Hello Szyslak. As you may or may not know, there have been some troubles with Esperanza. So now, as a last ditch to save the community, please vote at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Reform on all neccisary polls. P.S. I'm very sorry for spamming you all with these messages, and this will be the last time. I recommend putting ESP on your watchlist. Cheers and please look at that, let's stop the civil war then. WP:CP
[edit]Hi, you've reported copyright infringements to WP:CP in the last week, a new measure was recently passed to allow the speedy deltion of new pages that are cut and paste copyvios. Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:09, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"
If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions. After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:
Blank the page and replace the text with
to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not. |

Thank you for supporting my RfA
[edit]Dear Szyslak: I would like to thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community, especially since I did not conform to the standard edit-count criteria usually expected of administrator candidates - I am glad that you concur with my views on editcountitis, and I hope it rapidly dies out. :) I promise to only use my administrative privileges to assist the community in doing good work, and also to be calm, considerate and careful in working to make Wikipedia a better place. Once again, thank you; I look forward to working with you on Wikipedia in the future. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 03:14, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

Byron York @ NRO
[edit]NRO is suffiently mainstream and Byron York is sufficently well regarded that when Byron quotes Dr. Louis Letson, you cannot simply reject this source out of hand as being invalid - and somehow not meriting discussion prior to your reverting my edit. Please dialog with me about this on Talk:John Kerry. I'll answer there promptly, as soon as you articulate a rationale for you rejecting the validity of Byron York's quoting of Dr. Letson. Thanks. Thanks for your vote on my RfA. If you have any concerns over my actions please let me know. CambridgeBayWeather 23:55, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Your revert [1] is not supported by any talk page facts rebutting the facts which support my edit [2]. As, such you ought not to have reverted me. Please, go to Talk:John Kerry, speak to the edit which I have given you the diff for herein, and wait for my answer before reverting me again. Also, your ES of "rv - Rex is the only editor who wants the wound described as "minor", and has been for more than a year. Please, give it up" is not determinative. There is no correlation between the length of time a topic is open and the validity of a particular edit. Thank you.
