Shoot out colors

@SounderBruce I see you changed a result color on 2023 North Texas SC season page based on a shoot-out win, but you also changed a shoot-out loss to show as a win based on the different color. I attempted to change to SL but that does not produced a color. How should that be annotated? Demt1298 (talk) 17:39, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Demt1298: My mistake, it should just be "D". There is no separate color for a shootout loss, as a draw would be a sufficient label. SounderBruce 00:03, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Home Stadium

Hi there,

I added in the 'Home Stadium' section for the USWNT but you undid it. I was just trying to mimic what the USMNT already has on their page. Would you consider re-adding it? TylerDurdenXXX (talk) 20:50, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello SounderBruce:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

There is a backlog of over 1400 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MLS Cup 2022

Hi SounderBruce, I've marked one sentence in the second para of the first section with a clarify tag because I couldn't work out what "homegrown products" refers to in this context; the full sentence: "LAFC was characterized as having a "star-studded" lineup relying on international talent while the Union was a "blue-collar alternative" side that relied on data-based, cost-effective signings and homegrown products" (my emphasis). I wondered if they might grow their own oranges for half-time! :) The rest of the article still has lots of football jargon but I'm no expert so I shalln't try to fix that. Anyway, good luck with your planned FA nom. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 06:58, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Baffle gab1978: Thanks for the copyedit. I'll go through and fix some of the jargon issues as well as the clarification; players are products and business is good. SounderBruce 03:58, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sports & city limits

Hello! Regarding this edit, I'm not sure if the team playing in Redmond justifies removal from the Seattle article. There's already one team in that table that plays in a suburb, and there are plenty of prominent examples of sports teams not playing within the limits proper of the home city (Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Angels, etc.). If we're going to use city limits as a bar for inclusion, then we're going to have to chop tons of content from the article, starting with stuff in the lead like Alaska Airlines and Nirvana. Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 00:51, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Orange Suede Sofa: It was the weaker justification, but the main issue is that MLC does not yet play in the "home" markets. Once the Orcas are playing normal games in Redmond, then they should be added back in. The scope question is going to need to be discussed, as I'm not sure what should be kept when the article is fixed up to modern standards, and what should instead be moved to Seattle metropolitan area. SounderBruce 02:04, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that makes more sense. Regards, Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 02:42, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seattle Reign

I made a request at WP:RMT to have OL Reign moved into the Seattle Reign FC redirect. Given the efficiency at which requests on that page are acted upon, I thought it wise to bring this to your attention as perhaps a better way than WP:CSD to get these kinds of moves done. — AFC Vixen 🦊 02:01, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What goes in the notes section?

Okay. I'm just going to ask this straight up; why does it seem like you're the only one that actually knows anything about this project? The only person I ever encounter about edits I make on this project seems to be you! XD This is not a criticism by the way; I just find it kind of funny.

Jokes aside, by the logic that you gave, should I remove terminus info like that on other route pages? The only reason why I added that was for consistency's sake. I had a similar encounter recently on an Amtrak article page, so I'm just trying to get a grasp on what exactly I should do here. ChessEric 21:49, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ChessEric: The U.S. Roads WikiProject has largely gone inactive, as many core members have moved to a forked wiki due to a change of culture on English Wikipedia that puts our content in danger of being deleted. I'm one of the editors hanging around both because of my non-roads interests. As for the notes section, it still has to follow the citation rules that apply to the rest of the article, especially for FAs and GAs. Other non-FA/GA articles may have them, but they aren't part of MOS:RJL and thus aren't required. Learning what is and isn't in various MOS elements is an important part of becoming a better editor. SounderBruce 21:57, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
True. I went over their briefly, but trying to edit in two places is too much. I also tried to bring up a discussion that I thought was appropriate for both wikis and was threatened with a ban. I'm not too keen on being there, so I'm staying put for now. Thanks for telling me more about the rules. ChessEric 21:54, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Speedy deletion declined: User:Citrakayah/sandbox

Hello SounderBruce. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Citrakayah/sandbox, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's an odd page, but I don't see how this fits the strict criteria under U5, so declining to delete. You can always blank it (since it is over a year old) but the editor can restore, or send it to MfD (not a good candidate). Thank you. Dennis Brown 02:44, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dennis Brown: A fictional war with a normal (albeit non-functional) infobox seems to fall under WP:UP#GAMES and WP:FAKEARTICLE from the supplemental link in CSD U5. SounderBruce 02:47, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • That bothered me as well, but it seems to really be a list of references for other articles, and that was a significant percentage of the article, so it is plausible that was the original intent. The first half fiction wasn't coherent, but the list of sources was, enough so that maybe MfD would delete it, but I didn't feel it met the criteria for a SPEEDY delete. Updated populations, U.S. metropolitan areas

Thanks so much for your careful updating for 2022. The 2023 U.S. Census estimates come out next month (late March), and you are welcome to do that update as well. Wikipedia's full list of 2023 Metropolitan statistical areas, which should be fully edited by April 1, might be easier to work from than the U.S. Census website. Mason.Jones (talk) 00:59, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mason.Jones: I'll leave updating the big list to those with scripts and tools that can do a bit better than my copying and pasting out of the raw CSV. Only noticed that this table was out of date while working on Seattle metropolitan area, so I'll return to doing that instead. SounderBruce 02:52, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I totally understand, and don't mind updating it in future. Before, some other editor just copied in the new numbers from Metropolitan statistical areas. Thanks very much for your reply. Mason.Jones (talk) 16:08, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Frostly: Thank you. I plan to do a few more general articles in the space (mostly for the Storm), but seeing the sorry state of the lists was enough to drive me to do something about it. SounderBruce 03:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
