A barnstar for you!

[edit]
The Original Barnstar
Thanks for your message to me on December 25th, 2014 about my contributions about Canadian soccer. I've never contributed an article to Wikipedia but just signed up to replace so many dead links that were linked to my old website. I see you've been linking to a lot of my web pages which I think is great. I find all the instructions of writing articles complicated and it took me over an hour tonight just to find a way I could send a message to you directly.

Over the Christmas holidays I cut and pasted all the articles on the League 1 Ontario website to my own page because I have a feeling that the administrators may delete them before the new season. That's been done by a team like Vancouver Whitecaps who deleted all their articles of their pre-MLS history when they joined the league leaving my site with some of the only live links to a player's history from the maybe one time per year they might have played Toronto Lynx. Thanks again for your message and keep quoting me or ask me questions directly if you want help about a Canadian player/team. Robin Glover Robin Glover (talk) 23:41, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shooters history

[edit]

Hi again. Thanks for heavily expanding York Region Shooters. The history section is now well versed, however, it lacks flow due to the lack of sub headings. Since you know the topic well, do you think you can add sub headings within the history section similar to other football clubs such as Juventus F.C.? It would be apperetiated, thanks! Beach soccer and futsal players.

[edit]

Hi! Sorry if you'd prefer a reply on the page you posted on, personally I simply tend to reply on the user's talk page so here I am!

I only deal with beach soccer, but I'm sure futsal will be very similar. Essentially I'm no expert and unfortunately WP:Notability (sports) does not have any guidelines for beach soccer. However it does for regular football. It says "Players who have played in, and managers who have managed in any Tier 1 International Match, as defined by FIFA" are notable.

For football, a "Tier 1 international match" is basically defined as any International Match in which both of the teams participating are the “A” Representative Teams of the teams concerned and that the matches must be authorised by FIFA.

Considering FIFA control both beach soccer and futsal, I imagine similar principles to the above would apply here. For beach soccer, I'd say players who have competed in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and qualifiers must surely qualify as notable based on the above and since the aforementioned have very distinct and direct ties to FIFA. The same I'd imagine with the FIFA Futsal World Cup. For beach soccer, the next major comp. after the WC is the Euro Beach Soccer League. Considering it was previously used a qualifier for the World Cup and run by BSWW, the former governing body of beach soccer who have a partnership with FIFA, I'd again imagine players from at least the top Division would count as notable.

I hope this helps you somehow haha. Have you been thinking of making pages for beach soccer and futsal players?

All the best now,

TurboGUY (talk) 05:02, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Apologies, I meant to reply to your original message on my talk page but it totally slipped my mind. As much as I would like to contribute, I'm extremely busy in the real world outside of Wikipedia at the moment, haven't been able to do much editing these past couple of weeks and unfortunately this busy spell seems set to continue for at least a few more weeks. Sorry about that. I hope you're futsal proposal goes well. If you're thinking of writing one for beach soccer too I'd certainly appreciate it but it's up to you :) TurboGUY (talk) 01:37, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About archive references

[edit]

Hey there!

I know you're a very experienced editor so I'll try not to be extremely annoying, but in your last edits to 2002 Canadian Professional Soccer League season you linked citations with their archive link instead of linking the original and then supplying the archive link. I'm assuming you did it automatically instead of manually, but it caused a mess (wrong titles, dates, etc.). I fixed it all but next time please watch out for things like that because no one likes fixing broken/wrong citations! Thank you for all your contributions! Hi Shotgun Pete,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you've done for Canadian soccer on Wikipedia and outside of it! It is greatly appreciated.

I've just created an article on Canadian referee Joe Fletcher and I thought you might be interested in checking it out. For now, it's merely a stub.

Again, thank you so much.

2020 CSL season

[edit]

Hey Shotgun Pete, you've done great work on the CSL article. I feel a little bad interrupting it with my edit for Week 8 - I kind of stole your thunder lol. One question re the infobox. Since all the games were played at central locations (Esther Shiner/Centennial), should we remove the Biggest Home/Away wins? Even though there's always technically Home/Away teams, they weren't really true home/road matches. RedPatchBoy (talk) 20:58, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Original CSL

[edit]

Hey Shotgun Pete, great work with the playoff additions on the original csl seasons. Definitely a great addition! I made an update to the way you had presented the playoffs in the 1989 season article, by combining the legs for the same teams, as opposed to date order. Let me know what you think of that edit. I tried to copy the style from the way its shown in 2021 CONCACAF League for multi-leg ties. RedPatch (talk) 01:43, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you wanted to do 1992, the Semi-Final match reports are here (on page 4) if it helps your research a bit. Cheers, RedPatch (talk) 02:38, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey RedPatch,
Thanks for the edits they look great. That style is great and your really good at formatting. Thanks for the source for the 1992 season it definitely helps a lot. I look forward in working with you in the new year. Thanks and Happy New Year. Shotgun pete (talk) 15:03, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliment. Happy New Year to you as well and I look forward to continuing to work on articles with you as well. I updated the 1990 and 1991 articles. I noticed a couple of things in the 1990 article where the bracket doesn't match up with the results. It shows the Vistas winning 3-2 in the second leg, then winning a shootout in the bracket, but then a 3-0 victory in the match report. Do you know which is correct (3-0 or 3-2)? Was it a 2-0 game then a third goal in extra time for the winner? Also, was the Fanshu goal vs Montreal maybe a 90+1 rather than a 91 goal? I believe the legs could end in draws, so extra time in the first leg doesn't really seem to make sense there. I don't have access to those articles so I can't check. Cheers, RedPatch (talk) 15:37, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I just went back to the old edit for the CSL page where I originally got the results from and it says that the second leg had to be replayed on September 20 (the original match was 2-0+1-0, while the replay went to a shootout) RedPatch (talk) 15:42, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I just found out regarding the Winnipeg and Victoria match. Originally Victoria won the return match, but since they used Geoff Aunger who had a suspension Winnipeg challenged the score, and was given a rematch/third match to settle the controversy. I'll provide the match results, details. Shotgun pete (talk) 15:54, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And the result of the second match regarding Victoria and Winnipeg ended in a 2-0 game then a third goal in extra time. Shotgun pete (talk) 15:57, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! You're great! RedPatch (talk) 16:00, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey RedPatch,
I believe I settled the Winnipeg-Victoria series problem. Now I'll check the Montreal match regarding Fanshu goal. Shotgun pete (talk) 16:46, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright I fixed the Montreal-Hamilton match. It was my fault because I misread the article Fanshu scored immediately after Montreal's equalizing goal. Thanks for pointing out these mistakes, and once again feel free to contact me if any issue arises. If you need any further info regarding CSL or other Canadian soccer topics just let me know. Former Serbian White Eagles goalkeeper Miloš Đurković

[edit]

Hi Shotgun Pete,

Thanks so much for your amazing work.

I was wondering if you would be interested in helping with an article on former Serbian White Eagles goalkeeper Miloš Đurković if he qualifies for one?

His TM profile: https://www.transfermarkt.us/milos-djurkovic/profil/spieler/61181

Thanks again.

Tempo21 (talk) 19:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tempo21,
Thank you for the compliments. Based on the transfermarkt profile looks like I can probably write an article because he played in the top Bosnian league which really provides a lot of secondary sources. The criteria to qualify for an article now is the notability of the subject and if there are several reliable secondary sources to support notability.
I did a quick search on my Bosnian sources and there are articles that mention him. So I slowly start organizing my sources and creating an article throughout the week.
Thanks for contacting me and feel free to contact me any time. Shotgun pete (talk) 20:21, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Tempo21,

Cheers Shotgun pete (talk) 22:21, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shotgun Pete. Thank you for the Miloš Đurković article. I appreciate it.

I noticed someone just made an article on Obrad Bejatović and I wanted to hear your thoughts on the article?

All the best! Tempo21 (talk) 23:34, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tempo21,
The article does have potential because there are some independent secondary sources going in depth about him. It does need some editing as it ranks as a stub. But I do believe it was a bit premature in creating an article about him because he is rather young and he doesn't have much media coverage. Because he only recently signed with a top-tier league and hasn't made an appearance in the Bosnia top league yet. I personally would have waited until he made more appearances because most likely there would have been more reliable secondary sources about him. My recommendation would be to let the season progress and see if he makes some appearances with the club then start editing the article. Though there is a chance that someone might nominate the article for deletion due to a lack of reliable secondary sources that go in depth about him.
By all means, we could start correcting the article to improve it but it might be in vain because it could get deleted. Best to just leave it as is until the season progresses and he makes an official appearance.
That's my take on it.
Thanks Shotgun pete (talk) 00:04, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shotgun Pete,

Thanks for your hard work.

I just wanted to confirm that Serbian White Eagles FC took part in the 1969 National Soccer League season? I always thought their first season on the Canadian soccer scene was in 1970?

Thanks and all the best! –Tempo21 (talk) 21:11, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tempo21,
Yes, I was initially surprised at that too as I was under the impression that the team started playing in 1970. Based on the sources which I have access to due through the Toronto City Library archives there was a Serbian Whites Eagles that started playing in the NSL in 1967. There are multiple sources from the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail that mention a Serbian White Eagles team and some mention their noted rivalry with Toronto Croatia. Shotgun pete (talk) 22:04, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very cool!
Perhaps that was a different team under the name Toronto Serbians? I wonder.
Is there a way for me to access this archive? I appreciate your contributions.
Tempo21 (talk) 10:50, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it was a different team since the name is the same and there was no break between 1967 to 1970. Most of the sources available from that period are just vague mentions. Perhaps there was a change in ownership for example during the 1968 season an article from the Globe and Mail mentions that the team was under the ownership of Ray Dobrijevic.
The way to access the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail archives is to have an account with I believe Proquest through one of your local libraries I think in the GTA and Hamilton areas. Shotgun pete (talk) 15:57, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No CSL Playoffs?

Hi Shotgun Pete,

I was wondering if you could help me with a dilemma. It looks like there will be no CSL playoffs as per this article?

"The three games concludes the 2023 season following an announcement that the CSL Championship playoffs will not be played due to financial and venue considerations and that the league will in the coming weeks begin its interviews with organizations considering membership application as expansion teams for 2024."

Tempo21 (talk) 00:14, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tempo21,
Yes, I noticed that statement too. Really disappointed with the decision it seems that the league hasn't really recovered since the pandemic. I have my worries about the stability of the league. I know the league has gone through challenges throughout its long existence and knows how to survive.
Anyways what do you have in mind? How can I be of assistance? Shotgun pete (talk) 00:24, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was the help I needed (finding out if there will be CSL playoffs). I tried contacting them but did not hear back lol.

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:11, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
