Carss Cottage

I'd think the cottage is a building, not the park that contains it. Dave Rave (talk) 02:33, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Carss Park (reserve), or Carss Bush Park, needs an entry or sub-heading, the park has a history, mostly the same as the Carss Park, New South Wales suburb, cut it out or flesh it out, but a building is a bulding. Aoziwe I’ve got no idea what this is all about. Perhaps a link to the revert would be good. Users can be disappointed for any edit; however, if the edit was for good reason, justification of the restoration is required, other than expressing disappointment. Greetings - thanks for contrib to Evelyn Barron - comment on history & politics

Dear Rangasyd, I was so pleased to see an entry for Evelyn Barron, MLC NSW - thank you! I am a beginner-editor. This is my first message to another Wiki editor on their Talk page. I saw your interest in local political history. There's yawning lack of information on Wikipedia about these Australian women's organisations (in contrast to their British equivalents), some of which are listed in the article for Evelyn Barron but have no links. Figbird: Thanks. Wow, that was ten years ago. Your edit to Evelyn Barron was very selective by picking just one speech in the Upper House. That would imply that during her 12-year parliamentary career she spoke once only; and on this issue alone. I would suggest that you remove; or, add a series of references that demonstrate her interest in women's rights, etc. Also, we would never write "In reply, Mr Fuller Vice-President of the Executive Council reported that in 1972..." A tighter version of the same would be "John Fuller replied that in 1972...". I hope this helps you and happy editing. Rangasyd (talk) 10:58, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Long Gully Bridge

@Merbabu: A pleasure. I'm not really into DUK. Happy for you to nominate if you want. The article needs some more work. It's not quite got the right level of detail regarding its structure as a bridge, traffic volumes, etc. Also, please be careful to distinguish places being listed on the New South Wales Heritage Database and the New South Wales State Heritage Register. Please do not add small tags to infoboxes

In general, {{small}} and <small>...</small> are not permitted in infoboxes, for accessibility reasons. See MOS:FONTSIZE for details. I have fixed a few of your recent edits. Thanks for expanding the infoboxes for these bridges. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:45, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Australia and tons

Until wiki and recently I'd never even heard of this American short/long tons rubbish. Geez, a weight is a weight. can we do something about ridding 'our' pages of this atrociousness ?
and, another thing, this constant PC wiki metrification of everything length, every Australian item is WP:Units non-scientific articles with strong ties to the United Kingdom, British precision old school. Nothing in 18560 was built to a millimeter. Put all things with original spec with an order flip if applicable/available/possible, where to raise an Australian wide query for consensus ? Bridges in COrnwall link is much better-er that Cornish Culture. I need that ref to read, typical SHR - some detail no detail, to further my more edumacation .... but ... does the St George bridge be the only link to what this is supposed to be ? the extra link, two lines up, shows if the supports were shortened it would be a queens post truss, but then, the (File:Moorswater Viaduct.jpg) Moorswater and (File:St Austell viaduct.jpg) St Austell also look sort of stretched similar, though not as near to a simple small contraction of the St George. Bourke railway station template positioning

I noticed you moved the route template on Bourke railway station to the bottom of the article. Personally, I think it makes a lot more sense to have it in the "Services" section but I was curious to see why you made that change. Cheers, trainsandtech (talk) 07:48, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

@Trainsandtech: Thanks. My descision was based on the following:
  1. {{Adjacent stations}} are, by definition, succession boxes. See Category:Rail transport succession templates. I've not seen any clear directive on where these (transport) succession boxes must be placed. So, that creates some ambiguity.
  2. Wikipedia:Navigation template#Types states: "Navboxes are footer templates that sit below the standard article appendices and are laid out horizontally." And in my mind, they're a type of navbox.
  3. Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains#Featured articles lists stations and, of those that I viewed, all the adjacent station navboxes were located at the footer of each article.
  4. Wikipedia:WikiProject Stations#Article body provides options for placement of the navbox: "A table should exist, displaying the line(s) and the next stations on that line, with a link to the appropriate line. {{Adjacent stations}} should be used, which can be placed either in the infobox, under a separate section titled "Services", or at the bottom at the page."
So, in short, #1 provides no direction; #2 and #3 are quite clear in that a footer is preferred; and #4 gives options that include a footer. Hence, I choose to move to a footer. If I see others, I'm likely to take the same action. I hope this helps to clarify my actions. Rangasyd (talk) 08:32, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. Since there is a “Services” section, perhaps it would be appropriate for the infobox to go there? This seems to be the case with most NSW railway station articles (usually under a section titled “Platforms & Services”). Lapstone Zig Zag

Glenbrook Stn isn't there, it's where I marked it already.
why mark the zig zag coords at the station ?
Lapstone didn't exist when it was built, so it's not between lapston stn and Glenbrook stn, it's between the knapsack viaduct and the end of tunnel deviation (I suppose, though that wasn't there when it was built) so let's say Breakfast Point station, which wasn't there when it was built.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Nick Greiner's Spouse

I see that in Feb 2014 you made a revision https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nick_Greiner&diff=prev&oldid=596591233 to Nick Greiner's page, which included this updated line in the infobox :

There are two things which are not clear to me here.

(1) Did you deliberately change "AO" (two letters) to "A0" (letter plus number zero)? If so, why?

(2) Is "sep" (in "sep. 2013") an abbreviation for "September" or "separated"? If it is supposed to be "separated" then I suggest making a change to disambiguate - someone has later revised it from "sep" to "Sep" which makes it look more like September.

  1. It must have been an oversight to change AO to A0. I've corrected.
  2. sep. = Marital separation. I've used the {{marriage}} with the |end=sep. to remove any disambiguation.

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.
