What are you up to this days

💖💖 Lolonanana (talk) 08:51, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Lolonanana, I believe you are here because of this edit, which I promise was just an accident. But as to what I've been up to, I've been doing a massive overhaul of Mario which is apparently a very important article (Level 4 vital article). Pretty troubling though, as I'm getting no points for the Wikicup because of it. Panini🥪 13:14, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Help with FAC nomination for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

Panini! Hi. Having been one of the users that contributed to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered's peer review earlier in the year, I was wondering if you would help contribute in reviewing the article for its FAC nomination? It has been open for a few days but I've received no responses from any editors. It would be really appreciated if you could give any feedback and help move the article further towards reaching FA standard. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 17:21, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll get to it for you in the future, but I have been busy recently so no guarantees it'll be quick. Dont worry if you dont get comments early on; it takes a while for it to start to get rolling, and then it goes rapidly. It normally takes about a month! Panini!🥪 17:45, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikibenboy94, Left comments, sorry for the wait. I have a little leeway of time in the mornings so I'm mostly available then. Also, (prepare yourself I'm about to advertise) I'd appreciate comments on Paper Mario if you're free. Panini!🥪 14:13, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Writer's Barnstar
Hey, this is Ramesty here. Just want to say thanks for messaging me and also for the work you have done on the Paper Mario series. I had wanted to get the series as a main article for awhile, but everyone at the time (I was fifteen) thought it fitted better under "spinoffs" with the rest of the other Mario RPGs. I thought maybe that when enough Paper Mario games were made that it would get its own article (in fact I thought it already had enough [6 games at the time]), but apparently not. It took Origami King and your help to move it up to where it is, so I thank you for that. If you compare edits, there is a two year space between my last one on the page and your first one (with only two others in between)! I guess I gave up at the time, mainly because of time reasons (I am going to graduate high school this September), and also because of the work it takes. I had to use Wikipedia's help desk several times to figure out what makes an article good, how to correctly setup a page, etc. And some of that I have forgotten. There are still projects I'd like to do on Wikipedia, but for now I will have to save them for later. I encourage you to keep working on articles if you can, especially Mario and Nintendo related ones. Thanks again for taking interest and even noticing that I worked on it. I'll read it in the next couple of days and see what you've done with it. If there's anything else, just message! Ramesty (talk) 19:10, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Ramesty, very much appreciated. I could personally care less about what happens with Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo fan through and through. In fact, I have multiple Nintendo articles under my radar right now (one of them Mario himself)! Panini!🥪 19:49, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 May newsletter

The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in Round 2 were:

  • Botswana The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
  • England Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
  • England Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
  • Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
  • Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.

Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Is it okay that I resize the Roblox studio logo to 200px?ItsJustdancefan (talk) 20:31, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

I've reverted this. Setting a hard size means that user's preference for thumbnail sizes will be ignored. Some users have their thumbnails set larger, or smaller, as they desire. Except in certain cases, thumbnails should almost always be allowed to follow user preference. -- ferret (talk) 22:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

My hot take

Per your question I'm giving you a hot take here, but I may revise it if I think of anything glaringly wrong. I'm kind of working on a series article of my own in the background and I'm certainly no expert at this kind of article so I'd be interested in what others have to say.

First impression:
For both series and franchises, I think (1) the historical origins and (2) the size of the media should be given primary significance in determining the orientation of the article. If the article is primarily about video games then per WP:DUE the main portion of the body of the article should highlight the video games. Likewise if the the article is primarily about films then media like video games, books, music, etc. should represent a lesser portion of the article.

In terms of the structure, the best would be to treat the article as a modified list article. The article should begin with a lede that focuses on the main series but also references all related media to show the scope of its penetration into culture. A brief portion of background for main characters and antagonists should come second, and then the main series should be given its own section to list all members of the list chronologically and to focus on plot. Side-branches of the main series should be covered next, and then perhaps cameos. Other media in the series should then be given proportional coverage as due per the sources.
I suppose some of what I'm saying here generally would equate series and franchises, but I think that for smaller articles they can be treated similarly. For very large franchises, series may be separated from the franchise article in the interest of both comprehensiveness and readability, but the differences between articles on series vs articles on franchises may be trivial for smaller franchised series.

Thibbs, Ah, thanks! If you want t go back and change it, I'd advise making the changes at User:Panini!/sandbox3 where I store all the responses. If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Can you put this prominent image [1] of Mario on the article? Or replace the tanooki suit since the fireball is one of the first Mario's power up at the game.180.194.133.24 (talk) 09:32, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I pulled from another one online. Although just an image of Mario and the respective costume is more clear and understandable, I believe an image of gameplay better shows what the costume is and what it does. Panini!🥪 10:42, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Finding the article blurb for a TFA nomination

Hi Panini!, I hope you can help me as I noticed one of your FA's, Paper Mario: The Origami King, appeared in TFA in March. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was promoted to FA status on Monday (once again, thank you for your help in getting it there!), but I have a query with one of the steps required to nominate it for TFA (I've also raised this at WT:TFAR but no one has yet responded). Basically I just needed to ascertain where the generated blurb of the article, which appears upon promotion, is located to be used for TFA; WP:TFA/R states that it "appears on the talk page of the FAC nomination (that's the page linked from "it has been identified" at the top of the article's talk page", but I can't see one anywhere for Modern Warfare Remastered. I don't know if I'm just being stupid! Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:31, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey Wikenboy! Apparently I'm bad at instructions because I've never noticed this part before... following my way of doing things, skip over that part, create the template page (instruction 1) and write one from scratch. That's what I do. If you need and example, The Origami King has its FA blurb archived on its talk page, if you need an example on what to include. I took another look at the instructions, and I'm also unsure on what its referring to! Panini!🥪 12:42, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Oh, right, Wikenboy94. Panini!🥪 02:25, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Still got my name wrong Panini! ;) But thanks for the tip, I did see the alternative was to create your own. I'm not sure whether to do this yet, because truth be told the article was promoted earlier than I'd anticipated as I'm still planning to use another image as we'd previously discussed. I don't know if you saw my latest reply before the page was archived, but either way let me know your thoughts. The problem I have now however is that in the case I'm required to write a FA-quality rationale for a fair-use image, how will it be deemed sufficient if the article is already an FA? Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:29, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

  • Sigh*, mobile editing. It deleted my long reply twice now. Third times the charm.

Holy cow! I've gotten your name wrong all this time?! Dang.

I'm confined to mobile editing right now, so I wont be able to give a sufficient enough answer due to poor navigation and the inability to view links. Here's what you can do: go to WT:VG and ask about whether or not inclusion of an additional image is necessary and if so, what you should do. Additionally, ping Icewelder and ask about the image rationale templates. Hopefully he can direct you to what I'm referring to. This will hopefully take care of you additional image and featured level rational queries.

For the links you sent me of the graphics at the FAC, I can't see them so I'll make an assumption. Do you mean that you found a screenshot of an ad graphic online, as in a png or similar? If so, that would not suffice and would only work if you got a picture of the ad in question, in real life. An example of this, it's similar to almost every video game console image. I'm an amateur with freely liscenced images, so take this latter half with a grain of salt. Panini!🥪 12:58, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Panini! I didn't get a response from IceWelder unfortunately, though I did receive clarity from two editors nonetheless. Based on the comments there, and a brief discussion with Rhain, I've decided to use a GIF of the gameplay, specifically an example taken during a multiplayer match, which will better illustrate the combat and abilities than a static image. Going by what's been said and the examples used for other articles, I think there's enough text in the article to support a GIF. The website Gfycat has a number of examples for the game I'm currently browsing. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:29, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Since you couldn't get IceWelder, here's a new set of instructions: Go to the gameplay image on Good Job! and go into edit. You should see a template there that you can snatch, blank, and fill out. Panini!🥪 01:01, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Panini! Can I not just use the same template from one of the images in Modern Warfare Remastered's article? I didn't know this is what you were referring to. Also, I don't know if you have any experience with GIFs for article but Rhain has offered to help with creating/uploading one as necessary. Looks like the only thing I'll need to do myself is craft the rationale. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:31, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Notice

The article List of Roblox games has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Roblox is a platform where any user can create any experience. As a result there are thousands upon thousands of experiences that simply makes this list implausable. Roblox also considers Roblox places as "experiences" due to the recent Apple v Epic Lawsuit and as a result the name of the page does not relate to the content.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Someone at Nintendo decided, "hey, the graphics on the Nintendo 64 are not good", and made everything two-dimensional instead. This game was called, and the department team worked overtime on this one, Paper Mario. The game was critically acclaimed. They released a sequel, and it was universally acclaimed. The developers then decided to switch up the genre a bit for the third game, Super Paper Mario, and it was simply acclaimed. Then they released Sticker Star, and everyone hated it. Color Splash, hated even more. The Origami King, eh. - In short, it's a video game series once acclaimed but recently fell to average reception. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, WarioWare Gold), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from Alva Mignon (06:56, 18 June 2021)

Can I earn money using Wikipedia? --Alva Mignon (talk) 06:56, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello! If you are referring to getting paid on a general basis, like a job, this is sadly not the case. We are all here on our free will as volunteers to contribute to, well, the fun of it!

However, some times people are paid by others (such as companies) to write for them. For more details on this if you are interested, visit WP:PAID. However, this is generally discouraged for multiple reasons. Happy editing! Panini!🥪 03:01, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 July newsletter

The third round of the 2021 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 294 points, and our top six scorers all had over 600 points. They were:

  • Botswana The Rambling Man, with 1825 points from 3 featured articles, 44 featured article reviews, 14 good articles, 30 good article reviews and 10 DYKs. In addition, he completed a 34-article good topic on the EFL Championship play-offs.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a New York specialist, with 1083 points from 2 featured article reviews, 18 good articles, 30 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132, with 869 points from 11 DYKs, all with bonus points, and 54 "In the news" items, mostly covering people who had recently died.
  • England Gog the Mild, with 817 points from 3 featured articles on historic battles in Europe, 5 featured article reviews and 3 good articles.
  • Hog Farm, with 659 points from 2 featured articles and 2 good articles on American Civil War battles, 18 featured article reviews, 2 good articles, 6 good article reviews and 4 DYKs.
  • Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, a snooker specialist and new to the Cup, with 647 points from a featured article, 2 featured article reviews, 6 good articles, 6 good article reviews and 3 DYKs.

In round three, contestants achieved 19 featured articles, 7 featured lists, 106 featured article reviews, 72 good articles, 1 good topic, 62 good article reviews, 165 DYKs and 96 ITN items. We enter the fourth round with scores reset to zero; any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (one contestant in round 3 lost out because of this).

Question from HuntingtonFamilyAssociation (17:36, 4 July 2021)

Our Huntington Family Wikipedia Page has two malicious trolls who delete information, family members & photographs. We are in the process of working with Yale University & the Huntington Library to revise the Huntington Family Wikipedia page for a final time and protect it. Can you please advise us and walk us through this process. --HuntingtonFamilyAssociation (talk) 17:36, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Based on your word, this seems to be a simple fix. If it was the case of them creating false information, that would be a different bridge to cross, but simply deleting content is simple.

First, you must declare that you are related to the article in question that you are editing (WP:COI for more details). This is required so no questions about it trouble you in the future.

After of which, simply go to the articles history and revert the article to a state prior to the vandalism. You might already be doing that, however. There is a rule about how many times you can revert something (WP:3RR), but obvious trolling is exempt from this rule, so don't worry about it.

If problems continue, here's where the conflict is forcibly resolved. Visit the vandal's talk page and warn them that they are vandalising and if trouble persists they could be blocked from editing. If they still continue after that, report to an administrator and they will put a stop to it for you.

That should deal with temporary problems. If more anonymous users continue to vandalize, please tell me about it and I can direct you to requesting protection on the page in question. If you say there is only two, once they are dealt with it shouldn't have to be taken this far. Please consult me if you have any more questions. Panini!🥪 17:46, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Question from Freelancertareqbd (09:25, 8 July 2021)

Hey --Freelancertareqbd (talk) 09:25, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Glad you're here. Panini!🥪 12:21, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

No need?

You might be right. Is there a need to have any of the Mario & Luigi gameplay sections linked together? I just figured whatever reason that pattern started was a good enough reason to complete it. No biggie, though. I've never even seen any of these games played (enjoyed the characters back in the sprite days). InedibleHulk (talk) 02:48, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

I was too tired to leave a full explanation for my revert and had a feeling you would ask me why. Here we are!

So, for the first entry of a video game gameplay is explained in full detail (eg. for Super Mario Bros. it would explain all of Mario's abilities, powerups, and goals). Games that follow that use a similar "same but different" format and up being like "yadda yadda yadda go beat Bowser, and the original gameplay article is linked for additional context. Since Superstar Saga is the first entry in the Mario & Luigi series, it is the first entry example that the other articles start linking to. For an example of this, look at the games in the Paper Mario series. Panini!🥪 02:56, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Predictably contentious, am I? Guess the proof is the pudding. Thanks for setting me straight, linearity makes sense now, sorry for keeping you up at night! InedibleHulk (talk) 03:09, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Quinlanwconley, hello! For newcomers, we have an image uploading process that new users can follow. In fact, it's so easy to use that I still use it. On the top left-hand side of your screen, you should see an Upload File link. If it isn't there, you can use this link instead. Bear in mind if you use this, you need to be careful that you give the right credit to the works where credit is due. Panini!🥪 12:56, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
