Creating a user space.
[edit]Hello OKelly, I see you have had an article deleted which must be frustrating. I cannot locate a copy of the article therefore I cannot comment on it but I would have thought that the financial cost of the French and Indian war was an appropriate topic (see Financial cost of the Iraq War) providing it remains focussed on the financial cost of course. It is a good idea to create new articles in a user space and move them to the main space when they are ready. If they then get deleted, you still have a copy in your user space. It is bad form to edit another's user space so you are free to work on them without 'interruption'. You can create a user space by typing User:OKelly/insert article name here in the search box. When it tells you, no such article exists, do you wish to create it?, you say yes.--Ykraps (talk) 23:30, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Next time I'll get some references and do what you said. OKelly (talk) 02:34, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Reviving projects
[edit]- Please do not blank project talk pages (ie archiving- you need to leave the last however many months for others to see whether its worth getting involved)
- editor involvement on wp is down the drain - if you want to revive the project - you do it - dont expect much help - cheers SatuSuro 08:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Financial costs of the American Revolutionary War
[edit]Hello. Financial costs of the American Revolutionary War is a most worthwhile article; see my comment on it here.
Of course, the article can and should be improved. The thing to do is to [fanfare] improve it.
This is really not my territory, which is one reason I am reluctant to do much on the article. But I'm about to source one factoid within it. -- Hoary (talk) 08:56, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
NB The matter of financial costs of a war involving several nations (e.g. its effect on the revolution that soon came to one of them) is perhaps less notable than, say, a single restaurant (example). -- Hoary (talk) 09:34, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh dear! -- Hoary (talk) 12:41, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
The article British colonisation of Tasmania has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- we have articles for the history of Tasmania which may be edited; this article, howsoever much good faith be ascribed, does seem irredeemable
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:18, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Military History introduction
[edit]Hello and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you are interested, or you can add it directly to your user page by copying the following: {{WPMILHIST Announcements}}.
- Important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, writing contests, and article logistics.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a set of guidelines that cover article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
- If you're looking for something to work on, there are many articles that need attention, as well as a number of review alerts.
- If you have an idea for improving the project, we have a strategy think tank that provides a dedicated forum for discussing it.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask any of the project coordinators or any other experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome, and we are looking forward to seeing you around! --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 00:05, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for contributing new article Jeremiah Z. Brown. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable, by being clearly attributed to reliable sources. Please help by adding more sources to the article you created, and/or by clarifying how the sources already given support the material (see here for how to do inline referencing). Many thanks! PS If you need any help, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 01:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

I need to know how to remove the writing on the infobox picture at: Massud Mirza. OKelly (talk) 00:09, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
- Image markup like "|thumb" etc. is for when you are placing an image in regular text. Infoboxes are templates that supply formatting for their parameters such as images so you don't supply the code for images like you would outside of the template, which just breaks them. When you are using a template, if you look at the template page it usually supplies explanation for its use. In this case, you would have looked at {{Infobox senator}}.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:26, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

{{Helpme}} How do I get rid of the replication lag on my edit-counter? OKelly (talk) 23:10, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- There are some things that are beyond the control of mere mortals. In other words, barring starting an effective campaign for the developers to step in and fix the overarching issue, or Wikimedia to buy more hardware that speeds up matters, you don't. However, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters#Independent edit counters, unaffected by replication lag. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:09, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for signing up for this project. It is a very busy and active project with lots going on and we can always use more help and especially a fresh set of eyes. If you haven't done so already you might want to add Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to your watch list as this is where much of the background discussion occurs. You may also want to watch Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) as this is where newly created articles get listed for peer review. Having a look over these new articles is a great way to get a feel for how things are done on the project and also most new articles need reviewing anyway. If you have any questions you can leave me a note or post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft, either way you will get a quick response. - Ahunt (talk) 16:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
