Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:10, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost exit poll

[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates?

If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election.

All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian

The questionnaire

[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.

Detailed Instructions: you are welcome to answer these questions via usertalk (easiest), or via email (for a modicum of privacy).

how to submit your answers , estimated time required: 2 minutes
  • If you wish to answer via usertalk, go ahead and fill in the blanks by editing this subsection. Once you have completed the usertalk-based exit poll answers, click here to notify the Signpost copy-editor, leave a short usertalk note, and click save. The point of leaving the usertalk note, is to make sure your answers are processed and published.
  • If you wish to answer via email, create a new email to the Signpost column-editor by clicking Special:EmailUser/GamerPro64, and then paste the *plaintext* of the questions therein. Once you have completed the email-based exit poll answers, click here to notify the Signpost column-editor, leave a short usertalk note specifying the *time* you sent the email, and click save. The point of leaving the usertalk note, is to make sure your answers are processed and published (not stuck in the spam-folder).

Processing of responses will be performed in batches of ten, prior to publication in the Signpost. GamerPro64 will be processing the email-based answers, and will strive to maintain the privacy of your answers (as well as your email address and the associated IP address typically found in the email-headers), though of course as a volunteer effort, we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will have a system free from computer virii, we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will resist hypothetical bribes offered by the KGB/NSA/MI6 to reveal your secrets, and we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will make no mistakes. If you choose to answer on-wiki, your answers will be visible to other Wikipedians. If you choose to answer via email, your answers will be sent unencrypted over the internet, and we will do our best to protect your privacy, but unencrypted email is inherently an improper mechanism for doing so. Sorry!  :-)

We do promise to try hard, not to make any mistakes, in the processing and presentation of your answers. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact column-editor GamerPro64, copy-editor 75.108.94.227, or copy-editor Ryk72. Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping Wikipedia. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Portuguese vocabulary, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Celtic. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Control copyright icon Hello Melroross, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Portuguese vocabulary has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 19:59, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese people dispute

[edit]

Hi Melroross, I have no comment on which content version is more correct but the IP and NormanGear have used a source, and quoted from it. So it may be an invalid interpretation, or the source may not be reliable, etc but this really is not vandalism and "MALICIOUS edits" as you claim. I would advise you to address the claims, content and source and not the editors - They have stared a discussion on the talk page for this purpose.

If now or in future you wish to report a sock puppet the correct place is Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations, however in this case moving from an IP to an account is not Sock puppetry and they have said they will continue with the account. Also to ask for a page to be protected you need to file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. To do both of these actions, and many more Wikipedia:Twinkle is a tool that make it easier. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 16:33, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks KylieTastic for your prompt response. It’s not that the materials are unsourced, they are misplaced and malicious- this topic is already sourced in the sub-topic ‘Genetics of the Iberian Peninsula’ which also contains a sub-sub-section specific to Portugal. This user and a couple of others seems to be obsessed with the topic. Subsequent to your message, the page has been protected. Best regards, Melroross (talk) 16:38, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey Melroross, happy to help - finding the correct pages for the different reports is not always easy. Note that it is only protected for a day so the dispute can be discussed. As I do not know the subject I could not comment on the validity, and I know there are many such conflicts in these types of subject. Some are based on malicious purpose but many are just a simple difference of opinion, but what goes in the lead section needs to be as unbiased as possible. Sometimes the best solution is to find wording that is more neutral and exacting to the sources. The wording that I believe they are questioning is "limited conversions" and is not directly from the source, maybe a rewording would make them happy? If the dispute continues then Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and Wikipedia:Dispute resolution requests would be the places to go. All the best KylieTastic (talk) 16:55, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Caro Melross,

Caro Yup12, submeti novo draft do artigo Royal and Venerable Fellowship of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Mafra. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Galician-Portuguese into Portuguese language. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 12:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possible copyvio at Lusitanian language

[edit]

It looks like your recent additions to Lusitanian language have copied the abstract of Lujan (2019) out of the journal article. Even though double quoted, I'm not sure if this is considered fair use or not, and there may be a copyright violation issue here. Rather than include the entire abstract, or major portions of it, it's probably better just to summarize the most important points. I'll raise a question about this at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions and ping you. Mathglot (talk) 00:56, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Melroross,

You've been here for quite a while. Where these test edits? You added typographical errors (leagues to leagueiis), added unnecessary links to country names and an unused nowiki. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:02, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What for YOU may be considered 'unnecessary ', is not necessarily the case for most. So why don't you use your time with more constructive activities instead of reverting my very small, yet practical links? Thank you for the cooperation. Melroross (talk) 20:09, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean to start a new discussion? You could've replied in the discussion I started, but here we are. There is no need to address me In Capital Letters When You Write 'YOU', it comes off as uncivil. See WP:OVERLINK, let's assume the general reader has an inklinking of an idea what is meant by 'Canada' in that context. So it's not what I consider unnecessary, it's Wikipedia, so that is the case for most. And lest you forget, you did change leagues to leagueiis and added the nowiki end tag. So I'd say I did use my time constructively. Now, be a sport and use a civil tone next time and do not unnecessarily add wikilinks to country names. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You and Melrorross

[edit]

Hello Melroross. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts to edit Wikipedia, such as Melrorross (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. It is scarcely feasible that the two of you are both editing assorted pages on Portuguese subjects, especially taking into account the series of edits the two accounts made on Flamenco in November. Please declare the connexion between the accounts on one (or preferably both) of your user pages; you should also only edit with one of these accounts, as they do not meet the criteria of legitimate sock use as shown at WP:LEGITSOCK. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Conrad Theys requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.askart.com/artist/Conrad_Nagel_Doman_Theys/11074957/Conrad_Nagel_Doman_Theys.aspx and http://www.johansborman.co.za/artist-biographies/theys-conrad. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
