New DNB WikiProject
For information: I have set up Wikipedia:WikiProject Dictionary of National Biography, since the time has certainly come when there should be a place for collective discussion of the DNB adaptation effort. Please come and participate. Charles Matthews (talk) 09:37, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I have nominated Bratislava for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.

Teramo
Hey Marek can you take a look at the image File:Te.jpg from the Wikimedia Commons. Somebody seems to have hacked the image, how can I bring the previous back? Thankyou. (DDF19483 talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:35, 18 September 2010 (UTC).

Duplicated topics
Hi Marek, when I first editted in Wikipedia last year, you sent me a wellcome mesage along with cookies and promised to help me. Thank you. Now I have a question, not a personal one but a qustion about the rules. I came accross a group of newly created articles about certain historical people. But these topics already exist in Wikipedia. The knack is that the creator of the original articles have used English characters for the titles and the creator of the newly created articles has used a non English character. (ş insterad of sh) The articles are not mergable. Because while the older articles are several kilobytes long, the newly created articles are just one sentence articles; (name, and dates only) I warned the contributor, but no action up to now. (See the talk page) What should I do ? Have a nice day. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 15:32, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Nedim, thank you for the message
- I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
- I'll take a look as soon as I can :-)
- Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 03:19, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Actually I tagged them by db-a10 and 6 of them were delated and 2 were redirected. But the problem is that there are too many such articles and I can't browse each one. Probably I missed more than I catched. Sincerely. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:47, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks

HELP!
Hello, I am Yafehmeod and I am new to Wikipedia. I had some questions:
1. How do I discuss issues with a large crowd of Wikipedians?
2. How can I change my username.
3. Is it possible to IM wikipedians?
Thanks, Yafehmeod —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yafehmeod (talk • contribs) 22:39, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Yafehmeod, thank you for your message and welcome to Wikipedia,
- 1. How do I discuss issues with a large crowd of Wikipedians?
- You can start a discussion on your talk page (or the talk page of the article, if its about that article)
- Then you can invite people individually to participate
- 2. How can I change my username.
- Instructions can be found on this page: Wikipedia:Changing username
- 3. Is it possible to IM wikipedians?
- Yes, if they give you there IM contact details
- Alternatively you can email a Wikipedian privately, by using this format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:EmailUser/insert username
- I hope this information helps...
- Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 01:26, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Possible name change
I might need to change my username as I am being stalked by someone on the internet. Nothing has happened as of yet, but if it does, is there a way to block people on here? I was stupid enough to use my own name. I see there is a username change above, perhaps I might use that. Also how do you get an anti-vandalism box like above? Meg E. McGath (talk) 10:44, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Meg, thank you for your message. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems.
- Fortunately Wikipedia does have strict policies on this and can help. (see Wikipedia:Harassment)
- You can find out information on how to change your user name on Wikipedia:Changing username
- If you do experience problems and wish to discuss privately you can email me.
- Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 14:06, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
What are the chances that someone may try to recreate my page and impersonate me?

Algernon Capell, 2nd Earl of Essex
There is a person who I had been having a discussion on the Tudors Wiki about her supposed ancestor Thomas. She says that he is a son of the 2nd Earl of Essex and Mary Bentinck. I have checked multiple sources.. and they all confirm that there is no Thomas that was a son of this couple. She will not stop putting this person back up on the real wiki page. Is there a way to stop this from happening. I know who she is.. she tried putting him up with no source and now she tried putting up a real source but obviously she doesn't know what she's doing and messed up all my work from yesterday. Her name is misserma -- this is just getting out of hand as she will continue to put it back up time and time again. I have links to online sources... she does not. I have over 4 or 5 sources here saying NO Thomas! Help! Meg E. McGath (talk) 20:55, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

November copy edit drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue. Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Awards and barnstars A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page. Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive! |
Editor Trends Study
Hey Marek69. I'm not sure if you've been this, but I wanted to make you aware of the Editor Trends Study. This is a study that the Foundation is supporting to get a better understanding of editor patterns and how they've evolved over the past several years. One of the goals is to help us better understand New Wikipedians (i.e., editors that have completed 10 cumulative edits) and how their likelihood of staying vs. leaving changes over time. The first of analysis is very similar to what WereSpielChequers's admin analysis. It would be great to get your thoughts on the study! Howief (talk) 19:35, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
RE:
How was it unconstructive? It was broken English and unrelated to the clubs history. Please respond on my talk. 94.168.82.150 (talk) 16:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Teramo
Hey Marek there is this vandal Attilios deleting the whole article every day. he's also been insulting me on my discussion page for ages. Can you please take a look and take measures. I've had enough now. Thank you !!
DDF19483 (talk) 09:13, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi DDF, thank you for your message.
- This is a difficult situation. I can fully understand your frustration, but it is very important that you don't bite and end up edit warring with this person.
- There are often differences of opinion on Wikipedia. Most of the time, with a bit of effort, these can be resolved amicably. I've taken a quick look and I can't immediately see that one person is 'right' and the other is 'wrong'. It appears to be a bit more complicated.
- I will need a bit more time to go through all the edits to see what is going on. Meanwhile, my advice to you would be to take a 'step back' and not to edit the article for a while.
- I will try to look into the history and come back to you as soon as I can.
- Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 17:30, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
That's indeed what I decided to do. I'll just take a break. I've explained several times to this user that the purpose of wikipedia is cooperation and community and not deletion. I accept changes but deleting the whole thing and the work of regular users like you and me is just rude and disrespectful... let us not speak of the swear words in Italian on my talk page... Thank you Marek ! DDF19483 (talk) 19:50, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- Notice how this user blaming me for lack of "cooperation" is the one who deleted from his talk page all my invitations to stop reverting to his semi-illiterate article. Fortunately he's over now, at least for a bit (perhaps for lack of arguments for hsi cause). Ciao and thanks!! --'''Attilios''' (talk) 15:25, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
