Pico Rivera, California
Hi there, what a mess the vandals have in the Pico Rivera, California article. After you fixed a large number of vandalism edits, I found a couple more and fixed them as well. There could be others, as I looked back to an edit on January 15, and alot more text seems to have changed since then. I'm not sure what, if any was changed for the better or what could posibly have been the work of vandals. When you get a chance, can you take a closer look and see. It's polsible we got all the vandalism, I'm just not 100% sure. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 02:40, 4 February 2011 (UTC) Thank YOU! Hey, we be a good team! ;-) DocOfSoc (talk) 04:18, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
S-1 Edit
Ummm... why? There's been no recent activity, the whole thing about refactoring others' talk pages... and this would seem to be "poking the bear". You know I love ya always, but I must tell you I am confused about this one (and don't want to see you get in trouble). Sigh. Let me know what's up :> Doc talk 02:38, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- This offensive remark should have been removed months ago. As it is by a proven Sockpuppet of SRQ"s, what is the problem? I have been really sick for some time and am trying to catch up. I have not been around much after being betrayed by someone I really trusted. It is denigrating and insulting. Does it not conform to the criteria that such material may be deleted immediately? — DocOfSoc • Talk • 02:59, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't unfortunately. It don't think it would meet RD3 (which is what most admins seem to cite when revdeleting something nowadays), or else it would have already been. You could ask an admin for revdeletion of the edit, but I doubt it would happen (not to discourage you from asking at all). The real problem is that it was at another user's page, and he reacted rather quickly and reverted you: plus it was an old edit. We've just got to let sleeping dogs lie and get on with editing. No one's going to go looking into that page for that: so just forget about it. Lots to do here, and focusing on that isn't necessary. Cheers :> Doc talk 03:07, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

- It's not enough for revdeletion, I'm pretty positive. Of course I missed you, but we only cross paths when things are "rocky" ;> I love CA (and have visited a few times), but I know not enough to write a blurb about any one town. Actually... I've been to Yreka - maybe I should write about that! That's a little north of your expertise, but if you ever go up to Crater Lake, fly into Redding and drive up. It's a beautiful trip! Hi, I noticed that you reverted a couple of my edits to the notable people section. I gather that you want to add a somewhat in-depth description to each person, and I understand that, but right now it is making the section seem cluttered and somewhat unreadable. Having a basic description of the person with the link to their page (should a reader want to find out more) should suffice and is typically the norm for a city's notable residents page. I also added a couple more people to the list and removed a couple that did not have their own articles. Just trying to clean it up a bit, hope you understand. Thanks! - (Wikistalking) Here's what I'd do in a similar situation...find a similar picture (i.e. a screenshot of a page of a newspaper), assume that the licensing will be similar, copy the licensing template, make any alterations as needed to fit your picture, and paste it where the warning about no licensing. I think you will be OK not to include the original author of the article if use some kind of non-free low-res-screenshot-as-an-example licensing. FYI, I could be totally offbase, but I've done similar things in the past, and it's worked for me.

Confirmation
I am willing to accept that there might be an issue with working with personal recollection, and would appreciate seeing where this is regulated in the Wiki rules. To say simply that I am wrong, however, is both rude and does not comply with this rule either, as you provide no documentation of what you say. Additionally, the text refers to "forty years ago", which would place it in the 1960's, the time of the Second Vatican Council. I wrote about the period prior to the Council.Daniel the Monk (talk) 19:32, 14 May 2011 (UTC) retrieved fro Daniel the Monk page:
Confirmation2
Personal research is a violation of Original research. Please read. Pre Vatican II children were routinely confirmed in junior high in the U.S. My own OR, I was confirmed on November 22, 1960, in 8th grade. I can't use that either because a recognized citation needs to be found to confirm (pun intended) this. PTL — DocOfSoc • Talk • 21:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I very politely said "("Personal Recollection" is a violation of "personal research" Besides that you are incorrect)"
- I purposefully never said you were "wrong," a much harsher word. The Original research link is above and here again, so that you may read it; It is the documentation you asked for which I did indeed supply. "40 years ago" is Pre-Vatican II which opened in October 1962. I also recommend you read Good Faith.
- Comments on articles belong on the article's discussion page, not on my personal talk page. You said "(Change age of reception prior to Vatican II from my own personal rellocation of the era) which has you re-locating rather than recollecting. Civility is part of Wikipedia's code of conduct, and is one of Wikipedia's five pillars. The civility policy is a standard of conduct that sets out how Wikipedia editors should interact. Stated simply, editors should always treat each other with "consideration and respect". I suggest you read those also. Jesus said the same thing 2000 years ago. - Sorry to hear. Yes ovarian ca is a horrible disease and have seen many dye way before their time from it. With respect to Wikipedia it is used by 50-70% of physicians as well as over half of e patients. Thus there is a fine balance needed in writing style to communicate to both groups. I guess the biggest thing IMO is the importance of referencing to review articles. BTW if you are able to get this article to WP:Featured article status it ends up on the main page and thus you would increase the visibility of this condition. Let me know if you need help accessing references. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:56, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
WP:MEDMOS points out that "Wikipedia is written for the general reader. It is an encyclopaedia, not a comprehensive medical or pharmaceutical resource, nor a first-aid (how-to) manual. Because of the recency of my sister's death, and because her doctors did not listen to her symptoms for more than a year of regular visits, I am not up to engaging your edit war or your doctor cadre but instead will focus on an article for publication because women need the information and it is time that doctors take responsibility for NOT listening. I will continue to inform women of this deadly disease in whatever forum I can, and improve the article at a later time. When the symptoms "whisper" one needs to listen more closely! and BTW it's "die" not "dye" — DocOfSoc • Talk • 22:53, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

As a general rule, you can't use fair use images in biographies of living people. If there's to be a photo at all, it has to be a Creative Commons or public domain image — not a promotional one since promotional images are almost always copyrighted. You can use a copyrighted image for, say, someone who's dead, or a band that's broken up, because in those cases it's far less likely that a free image exists. I don't know about (and don't plan to get involved with) Talk:Chinese enclaves in the San Gabriel Valley, but per your edit-summary question, the survey from late 2008/early 2009 preliminary results summary gives a 7:1 male:female ratio among editors. DMacks (talk) 04:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

- I further restored my own post in that thread that you removed back in February. I saw it at the time but just thought "mehh, whatever...". However it now appears that you may have a misunderstanding on how talk pages work. They are not malleable to what you wish they would say, they are a record of the proceedings here. If you feel that a personal attack or attacks have occurred, please present your opinion to an appropriate noticeboard for others to judge. If you are making similar selective removals elsewhere on Wikipedia, I would urge you to review them yourself, before other editors do the job for you. Regards! Wikihounding
Wikihounding is the singling out of one or more editors, and joining discussions on multiple pages or topics they may edit or multiple debates where they contribute, in order to repeatedly confront or inhibit their work. This is with an apparent aim of creating irritation, annoyance or distress to the other editor. Wikihounding usually involves following the target from place to place on Wikipedia.
Many users track other users' edits, although usually for collegial or administrative purposes. This should always be done carefully, and with good cause, to avoid raising the suspicion that an editor's contributions are being followed to cause them distress, or out of revenge for a perceived slight. Correct use of an editor's history includes (but is not limited to) fixing unambiguous errors or violations of Wikipedia policy, or correcting related problems on multiple articles. In fact, such practices are recommended both for Recent changes patrol and WikiProject Spam. The contribution logs can be used in the dispute resolution process to gather evidence to be presented in requests for comment, mediation, WP:ANI, and arbitration cases.
The important component of wikihounding is disruption to another user's own enjoyment of editing, or to the project generally, for no overriding reason. If "following another user around" is accompanied by tendentiousness, personal attacks, or other disruptive behavior, it may become a very serious matter and could result in blocks and other editing restrictions.

Warning on multiple accounts
Hi. Please remember that editors are generally restricted to one account. Using multiple accounts, either to make it look like other editors are involved or to avoid scrutiny, is not allowed. Similarly, getting coworkers, friends, or other outside people to edit on your behalf is also frowned upon. Thanks. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 21:03, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

- Please see my comments on the accusations about this user. I'm sorry but this is totally wrong for a reason to accuse another user of sock or meat puppetting. If you have any questions please make a note on my talk page and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I think everything is ok now with everyone. I talked to a few people about this today and I think everyone understands everyone else. I think what happened is that there was one that was socking and probably a few meat puppets were added to try to force the link into the article, well from what I understand it was multiple articles. You just happened to be trying to put it into the one article and you got caught up in the net of trying to get rid of the trouble makers. Proposal to add American cinema task force under WikiProject United States
Greetings, I am a member of WikiProject United States, it was recently suggested that the American cinema task force of WikiProject Film which you are a member, might be inactive or semi active and it might be beneficial to include a joint task force for it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States, which Kumioko and me have added some of the projects like WikiProject American television and WikiProject United States Government. After reviewing the project it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the task force talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 21:41, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Montebello, California shows that you are in danger of breaking the three-revert rule, or that you may have already broken it. An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Breaking the three-revert rule often leads to a block.
If you wish to avoid being blocked, instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to discuss the changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. You may still be blocked for edit warring even if you do not exceed the technical limit of the three-revert rule if your behavior indicates that you intend to continue to revert repeatedly. I don't like to template the regulars, but you've been around long enough to know better than to edit war. Please stop, take a breath, go to the article's talk page, and discuss - don't edit war.(talk→ LesHB ←track) 04:26, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have not broken the 3RR rule. If you change it back again you will be in violation. If you would READ the sources instead of decimating the article we would both be better off. We have had this conversation before. I have no idea why you have taken unto yourself to occasionally go back to my edits and change them despite the properly sourced history, in more than one article. You leave enough time in between so it is not obvious or you would be reported. — DocOfSoc • Talk • 04:34, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Doc #2, you have been followed to more than four articles for quite some time. I think it started at 2011 Tucson Shooting, when you made an edit here, Lhb1239 took an interest in that article, appearing a few hours later[11] (there was no confrontation at the time, and this one's not provable stalking). But wasn't this "interaction" a great way to check up on your edits? A few days later the sudden "interest" in Montebello - duh. And popping in at Santa Anita Park in the middle of your edits - how lovely! (Gee, not a lot of editors have edited that article...) So in addition to the four mentioned in the report there are two more that can be directly added: List of people from Pasadena, California and Santa Anita Park. Doc talk 12:44, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Doc - I think you didn't mean to make this edit which reverted my edit about Zimmerman's employment, as the edit summary doesn't make sense for that one. Size
Hi. First, I liked that your comment about Zimmerman-Martin relative size was balanced. Regarding Trayvon's size, it brought to mind a story that was in the news many years ago about a father and son that were out walking one night. The son was on leave after basic training in the army, was a couple of years older than Trayvon and exactly the same height and weight, 6'1" and 150 lbs. Their walk was interrupted when they were accosted by three muggers. The muggers got the living crap beat out of them. --Bob K31416 (talk) 13:20, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Charles Karel Bouley shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Japandroids (talk • contribs) 04:03, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Warnings
DocOfSoc, I'll be brief and to the point. I don't know what your dispute is with Japandroids but I'll find out what's up with them. In the meantime: a. do NOT post warning templates on their USER page. b. if they remove them, do NOT restore them. If they remove warnings from their talk page, do NOT restore them. Clear? Thanks. - And you're lucky that I don't agree completely with Doc9871. I don't think their edits are vandalism, but I see a BLP concern there. If I didn't I would have blocked you as well. Please wisen up and next time don't get involved in an edit war, alright? And read WP:BLANKING. Drmies (talk) 03:37, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Excuse me, I am not the one doing the blanking and it is insulting to point it out to me .According to WP: Wiki I am allowed to remove egregious remarks without it being an editing war. I am an respected editor of long standing and have, as you see above have long been targeted because of the subject matter I choose. I have been called a vandal and a loser just today by Japaniods and you chastise me because of a two month long tendentious homophoobic agenda by Japanoids? I don't understand why I cannot post warnings when they are merited. I was bombarded by months of templates as a newbie and no one said a word. You want to know the history, go to SRQ (SkagitRiverQueen)in the archives. If what Japanoids is doing isn't vandalism that please explain to me what is. His posting HIS warning template on my page was not mentioned either! Namaste — DocOfSoc • Talk • 03:56, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- DocOfSoc, what on earth are you talking about? The history of their user page, here, clearly indicates that you posted warnings there (on the USER page--in six edits), and then restored them twice after they reverted you. That's wrong, and if you don't know that you're lacking competence. You restored your comments after they removed them on their user talk page as well. This has nothing to do with how bad their edits were, or what a peach you are--it is simply to indicate to you that you should follow the guidelines, and to warn you that you should be careful yourself when getting caught up in an edit war. No one is saying that you cannot post warnings if they are merited, but you cannot restore them after they're reverted. Sheesh. Drmies (talk) 04:21, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

They have accused DocOfSoc (Doc #2) of being Karel,[14][15] called her a "bully", an "idiot", a "vandal" and a "loser",[16][17][18] and been an all-round pain-in-the-ass with agendga-driven and crude edit summaries like "Andrew had the AIDS.."[19] Japandriods is not here to build an encyclopedia. They are here to troll. Time to say goodbye to this editor. Doc talk 06:30, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- Doc(9871), I'm not disputing anything about Japandroids, and it warrants further investigation. Note that I blocked them for edit-warring. But that doesn't mean that Doc(OfSoc) can reinstate blanked warnings: Doc, users are free to remove those themselves (for better or for worse). There are more fruitful avenues to pursue: edit-warring (which is edit-warring even if you're right) is not one of them, and neither is reinstating warnings. If a user removes a warning we take that to mean they have read them; subsequent warnings of course can be increased in level. Other Doc, I'll have a look at those diffs. DocOfSoc, if there is a saga then a forum needs to be sought other than the user's talk page; I am not aware that this has happened. On another note, when's the last time we had three Docs in conversation? and didn't I see a note from Doc James, above? (and did I not just leave a note for Dr.K. (talk · contribs)? Did someone ping Dr. Blofeld yet?) This may be the healthiest talk page on Wikipedia. Drmies (talk) 15:33, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- Heh - I can always give DoctorJoeE (talk · contribs) a shout! Doc #2 tends to get a little "red-headed" (by her own admission) when needled by accounts like Japandroids, and I can attest that her experience with the banned SkagitRiverQueen (talk · contribs) was unpleasant to the extreme (and it started with this same article). I know it negatively affected the way she trusts other users, especially highly questionable ones like Japandroids. Once bitten, twice shy, they say: she was chewed upon for many months by that user (SRQ). Brucejenner (talk · contribs)'s cavalcade of socks had also harassed her over this article, so I can see how she gets bent out of shape when a SPA like Japandroids pops up to irritate. I don't think it's either one of them, but if I had to pick one I would lean towards Brucejenner because of the homophobic undertones (which SRQ would not have). Of course, you are correct about BLANKING, and I doubt Doc #2 would have reacted that way except out of sheer frustration with, and suspicion of, this person. Cheers :> Doc talk 00:20, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, Japandroids won't be bothering anyone anymore. Thanks, Doc, also for the explanation. Doc, hang tight. Drmies (talk) 02:33, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Good call on the indef - their first four edits to the article say it all. I can't resist this one, really... ;> Doc talk 06:28, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- That one doctor (you know, the doctor) was a pretty hot doctor. Thank you, Doc, for providing the diffs that made this an easy call. Doctor, doctor, Drmies (talk) 15:06, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2014
Hi Doc. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:56, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, DocOfSoc. This message is being sent to inform you that a request for a contributor copyright investigation has been filed at Contributor copyright investigations concerning your contributions to Wikipedia in relation to Wikipedia's copyrights policy. The listing can be found here. For some suggestions on responding, please see Responding to a CCI case. Thank you. I see from this page that you have other, much more serious, problems. Copyright issue
In dealing with my precious sister's cancer and death and then my own rather serious ongoing battle with cancer, copyright issues are beyond my ken ATM. My previous issue in 2010 was a lack of understanding of the issue and I went thru every one of my articles to correct them. When my sister died, I went thru what they used to call a "nervous breakdown" and now am affected by my own problems with Post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment (a misnomer for sure). I don't even remember making those posts. Do what ever you need to do. I appreciate what a heavy load that work is for anyone. I apologize, I do know better and can only say I obvioulsy have lost my mind while trying to save my life. I stayed away from Wiki most of the past few years, being aware the brain was not working on all burners. I have had 16 rounds of each, chemo and radiation and still have more to go. I am sorry, I thought I always rearranged references satisfactoriy but apparently did not. Kick my a** or what ever, I am too sick to care ATM. PLease copy this wherever appeals go. I can't do anymore. Would like to come back someday when I find my brain. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa. Namaste — DocOfSoc • Talk • 02:03, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:DocOfSoc, I'm truly sorry that you're still so unwell and that you lost your sister. :( I understand that health and real world stressors can impact behavior. A CCI is conducted when there are identified multiple copyright problems. Unfortunately, these remain an issue even if you were not conscious of what you were doing at the time they were placed. I'm glad to hear that you conducted the review after we talked about copyright issues in 2010, but as additional issues seem to have been introduced after that, I'm not sure that we have any choice but to look for and address them where they exist. I do not assume or believe that you had any intention to create problems. Copyright is simply a policy we have to enforce and that means removing content that does not comply. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:40, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Resurrection of Southern California Task Force
After moving from Los Angeles County to Kern County to San Luis Obispo County, I am finally realizing that there is life in California outside of L.A. and San Francisco, where I lived and grew up. Oh, I have also lived in San Diego, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Yolo and Sacramento counties, and I earned my undergraduate degree in Riverside County. I am trying to breathe life into the Southern California Task Force, and I hope you will join me. Could you visit our list of participants at the other end of this link and update your description of what you are interested in doing for us, assuming that you still want to be in the mix, that is.
In recompense, I will buy you a drink during the Wikipedia Welcome Week I am planning for Morro Bay on the Central Coast in July. Yours sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 18:52, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
- It's been four years since I wrote the above (which I had mercifully forgotten about), but I must say that I have not lifted a keyboard finger to assist the aforementioned task force, so I have removed my name therefrom. I have, however, been quite active in the now renamed WP:WikiProject California/Los Angeles area task force, to which I invite you to contribute as well. I never did do that social thing. Bad me. Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 05:16, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!
- What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
- When? June 2015
- How can you help?
- 1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
- 2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
- 3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)
Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.
Thanks, and happy editing!

2019 US Banknote Contest
US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |

Dear DocOfSoc, You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 00:19, 10 January 2022 (UTC) To opt out of future mailings about LA meetups, please remove your name from this list. |
