Wikipedia Images and Articles

Hello Jasper Deng this is Fun Cake and I've heard you've been restoring images back to the current ones because of a non existent consensus please show me proof about this consensus i would like to remind you Wikipedia is a free editing site and not for you to keep reverting edits. 2600:1700:C520:3240:6867:3774:1C22:BC89 (talk) 18:43, 26 January 2018 (UTC) (Fun Cake)

I looked and you're right: The user was blocked, and I hadn't bothered to check the first time. Upon doing some more investigation, I noticed that two other sections, about Hurricane Gert's Saffir-Simpson rating and Hurricane Maria's death toll, were also created by the sock-puppeteer or his sock-puppets. The sock-puppeteer also started an addition past section about the seasonal cost. I notice that a general pattern is that the person posts a vaguely-worded message on a subject that has been of previous contempt, like Hurricane Gert's Saffir-Simpson rating or Hurricane Maria's death toll, and I reinitiate debate on those topics, reigniting old feuds with users like MarioProtIV, which was the person's goal, just like the Russian troll farms. Just to give you a warning, based on this pattern, the troll will probably try to ignite controversy over records, which I started and/or helped fuel here and here, in order to deepen rifts between users. By responding to the troll's questions, I'm just helping him reignite controversy among all of us. I can't believe that I let myself be manipulated into aiding a troll, but since I did, I shouldn't even be on Wikipedia. Goodbye. Care to differ or discuss with me? Meteorological history of Hurricane Irma

Hello, this is CooperScience. I noticed that Hurricane Irma (of 2017) does not currently have a page for its meteorological history. Could I create a page for the meteorological history of Hurricane Irma? I think it's a storm deserving of its own meteorological history article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CooperScience (talkcontribs) 00:01, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Template help

Do you think you have the ability to add a ref column to Template:TC stats cyclone3? I’ve gotten part of it done but I have no idea how to make it work and since you added the sort function on it I thought maybe you could be able to do it as well. --MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 01:40, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello Jasper Deng

Hello. I sent a MediaWiki unblock request on my MediaWiki site talk page. By the way, I may have been not yet improved and underaged at the time of my block. Newman2 (talk) 16:04, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

Do you think I can come back on Wikipedia now, or do I deserve to stay off forever for what I did? Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 23:28, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

@The Nth User: I honestly think that you are overreacting if you let that stuff get to you.Jason Rees (talk) 04:51, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
@Jason Rees: Do you really think so? I was just trying to interpret what the new user, who probably doesn't understand how Wikipedia works too well, might have meant under the best of intentions, which is something I wish more experienced users had done for me when I was new, and then I saw Jasper Deng's reply, which accused me of twisting WP:NOTAFORUM, and the worst part was realizing that Jasper Deng was right and that I was replying to a blocked sock account. Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 19:52, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Yes! You just need to sweep it under the carpet and move on with your wiki career.Jason Rees (talk) 01:09, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Okay. I hope the others aren't still mad at me. Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 03:47, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Notepadqq

Hi Jasper. Thanks for your removal of Notepadqq from the Notepad++ page, at edit [1]. I too don't like random links.

I am in no way connected to the project, but on further inspection it looks like it might be an appropriate link. Notepad++ is Windows only, and it looks like Notepadqq aims to be a similar program for Linux.

There is (a little bit of) coverage for it at:

There also seems to be a bit of activity on the support forums at:

It's over 6 years old and the most recent commit was 6 days ago, so it seems real.

What do you think? peterl (talk) 08:28, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Haven't heard from you, so I'll add it back in with supporting refs

Removal of Clarion Island from season effects

Hey, just wondering why you removed Clarion Island from the season effects when the advisory states that tropical storm force winds are being experienced there. FigfiresSend me a message! 20:40, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Right-hand rule

Could you explain why you removed information from Right-hand rule? If the problem is 'you' it can be fixed by changing the wording. Or is the information wrong? A month ago someone claimed that it was bad but could not explain why. See last paragraph of the talk page. Thanks. Benjamin Trovato (talk) 17:07, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

@Benjamin Trovato: Long story short is that we're not a textbook. It's not our job to help readers use the right-hand rule, only to explain what it is, so we do not need so many examples for intuition purposes.--Jasper Deng (talk) 17:43, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Since you and the other editor seem to see something I do not see, I will leave the information out. Are you certain that coordinates, screws and rotating bodies do not have right- and left-handed forms? Is the curled finger form less clear than an arbitrary pairing of fingers and directions?Benjamin Trovato (talk) 02:00, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Just a note...

...in regards from your edit summary, Typhoon Maria is actually likely to enter PAR, in fact in several more hours. Maria hasn't moved above the 25N line yet. :) Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:48, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Typhoon Son-Tinh (2018) listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Typhoon Son-Tinh (2018). Since you had some involvement with the Typhoon Son-Tinh (2018) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. B dash (talk) 08:37, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Salesforce Transit Center

Salesforce Transit Center is the official name. It is labeled that way on physical maps in the neighborhood, wayfinding signs in the center itself, on Google Maps, in news coverage, etc. etc. What you and your friends call it is irrelevant. Fullmetal2887 (discuss me) 21:14, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Jasper Deng,I am not trolling. I reverted your edit on FleetCommand. I am not in an edit war. I am just doing large scale reverts. Look at the tag. Thank you. Happy editing! 24.205.150.243 (talk) 00:15, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Perpetualinput

Hi Jasper,

I sense you're getting a little upset. Don't worry; no one is going to let this nonsense get into the articles. Feel free to work on something that makes you happier. Just a friendly suggestion. --Trovatore (talk) 04:40, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

@Trovatore: and I could well mention to them that the four "circles" and the square don't have the same area, but it's honestly amusing to see them throw a tantrum.--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:58, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Atlantic Hurricanes

Reference your removing the SI symbol for pressure in this edit, you might think Americans are the only people reading this, Wikipedia Manual of Style, Units of measurement states: The main unit in which a quantity is expressed should generally be an SI unit or non-SI unit officially accepted for use with the SI. I'd therefore appreciate it if you could go back and include hPa as the primary or secondary unit on this page you changed. Because it's not acceptable to you, is a form of vandalism.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Avi8tor (talkcontribs)

@Avi8tor: The consensus of WP:WPTC is otherwise; MOS is only a guideline It's extremely rude to call my edit "vandalism", see WP:NOTVAND..--Jasper Deng (talk) 16:01, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
I had a look and I don't see anything referencing a consensus, please show me where this consensus is exactly. It's also extremely rude to revert edits that follow the MOS! Most of the world is now using hectopascals for pressure, the mbar is deprecated. http://n-a-c.biz/WS62694/hPa.htm Avi8tor (talk) 09:49, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Clarinets

I see you adding details about clarinets, but without sources. When you add between such a thing a fact and its reference, you make it look like that ref is good for your clarinet thing. I am tempted to revert, but give you a chance to add references, and please don't forget to repeat the ref you found before with the fact it stands for. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:15, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

This is a bit SYNTHy, but I believe I am justified by WP:CALC because it's straightforward to see this from the score by counting measures. Beethoven is very clear about distinguishing melodic lines of this movement (excluding the piano part, which doesn't figure into the calculation) because accompaniments are very consistently either held chords or Alberti bass. I don't see this in the slow movements of any other Beethoven concerto; what is true at the very least is that this instrument is highly important to this particular movement (the latter link also emphasizing how the prominence is helped by the removal of flutes and oboes in this movement).--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:21, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
I should have been more precise. I talk about the second piano concerto, where you say that it is the only one to omit clarinet. (I'd just say "without clarinets", - what would "omit" mean here?) - Problem: there's a ref behind the following (!) sentence, and a reader will assume that ref supports the "only without", which I think is misleading. - Reference synth to the score? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:43, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
The second concerto is scored without clarinets while every other one is. Literally any look at the scores would verify it. I used the language used in other music articles such as that on Brahams' Seranades, of which the second is described as "omitting" violins, and that on Symphony of Psalms, which is said to "omit" clarinets and other instruments. You are free to fix the reference hijacking, though I actually recall seeing no reference attached in the first place.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:51, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Talk:Windows 7 edit

BTW, that Talk:Windows 7 edit by Rashidkia was a COPYVIO, not OR as you listed in the summary. Peaceray (talk) 06:52, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Oh I thought it was OR because their username seemed to be an abbreviation of the author's.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:53, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, that editor copy and pasted a chart from the article. Probably an attempt at a spam citation by the author. Peaceray (talk) 07:00, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

My Page Moves

The primary reason why I stick with patrolling the recent changes for vandalism and spam is because most of my other edits tend to get reverted. My page moves on articles relating to events seem to be no exception. Any advice for helping me make less controversial changes? P.S, feel free to undo my page moves but be sure to keep my titles as redirects. funplussmart (talk) 13:01, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

JMA Seismic Intensity Scale

Just because you disagree over the proper noun question is no reason to do a full revert of over an hour's worth of work, my dear fellow!

Meanwhile, here's evidence that it that JMA calls (and styles) its scale JMA Seismic Intensity Scale in English: http://www.jma.go.jp/jma/en/Activities/inttable.html

I don't want to engage in edit warring, so I'll let you (or someone) do the honor of restoring my latest edit, which included replacing dead external links and doing a fair amount of copyediting quite separate from the opening paragraph.

Oakland I-80

Hello,

I appreciate you correcting my error. I just realized I was wrong. I originally thought I-80 doesn’t reach Oakland because I’ve driven there many times, and the I-80 signs point to Berkeley and Richmond, whereas Oakland is pointed to on other signs, like I-880 and I-580. I just realized there is one exit on I-80 in Oakland (W Grand Ave) that is easily forgotten and unnoticed amidst the frenzy of the MacArthur Maze and Bay Bridge Toll Plaza.

I wish you well

Thanks 🙏🏼 Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 02:10, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

@Mrbeastmodeallday: No hard feelings or worries. This is why sticking to reliable sources is best, since our own personal experience might be wrong. Hence we have a policy of Wikipedia:No original research.--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:17, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting that edit back to the change that the IP user made. I saw the article's title and thought that it was maybe a test edit - obviously, I was wrong. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:09, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Wind Gust

You were right, I didn't consider that the standard of measuring wind gust are the same between agencies. I was concerned about the agency that was represented in the article because it came right after the 1-min winds it could be misconstrued as coming from JTWC. However, if a reader knew that the JMA data is primary, then they should know the gust listed is from the JMA. Supportstorm (talk) 20:14, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

JTWC screwup

This is probably one of the worst screwups I have seen. Appears JTWC is off by 15-20 knots on the current intensity for Wutip. Anyone with half a brain can see the storm is stronger than any 115 knots. Your edit sums it up. Amen... NoahTalk 02:36, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
