ANI notice
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/3 Damansara Shopping Mall (2nd nomination). Thank you.. I am notifying you because although you haven't done anything wrong, I express my strong reservations that another editor appears to have tried to canvass you to a discussion. - Response Hi Nil Einne, 4meter4, as it turns out, I've been away so I missed the AfD and subsequent AfD discussion. Here's my take on things. Usually I only participate at NCORP related AfDs these days with rare forays into some other topic areas. I would eventually have gotten around to comment on this one too if it hadn't been settled beforehand. I agree that it is inappropriate to canvass !votes but on the other hand, 4meter4 didn't actually ask for my !vote, he asked for my opinion on whether certain sources met NCORP criteria for establishing notability. Perhaps this is merely splitting hairs for most observers and while I generally tend to not !vote when specifically canvassed to do so, in this case, had I provided an opinion, it would have been to say that 4meter4's concerns were correct.
- Of more concern to me though is the casual remark from Garuda3 that the request for my opinion amounted to vote stacking per Wikipedia:Canvassing (which is fair enough) but then went on to justify this opinion by pointing to HighKing's AfD record. This is a step too far and it is notable that nobody took up this point. This isn't the first time an editor has pointed to my AfD record as, somehow, being indicative of being a "deletionist". The key statistic Garuda3 (and anybody else for that matter) should have noticed is
Number of AfD's where vote matched result (green cells): 153 (88.4%)
. This indicates that my !voting pattern is very much in line with consensus which really can only be achieved with a good understanding of the applicable policies and guidelines. Compare that to Garuda3's statisticNumber of AfD's where vote matched result (green cells): 16 (69.6%)
which is not great and I would argue indicates a poor understanding of our policies and guidelines. But the real point here is that it appears that the only real objection to my participation at the AfD was not my so-called expertise or potential !vote-stacking, but that Garuda3 believed I would !vote against keeping the topic because of my !voting record, regardless of whether my !voting record is good or bad. As I said, this is the real inappropriate part in that AfD. HighKing++ 15:57, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
