User category

Kia ora Laura, would Category:Wikipedians in New Zealand or Category:Wikipedians interested in New Zealand be better / accurate? The reason that I added the category is that I compiled a distribution list for an invite to this event. You missed out (but are of course most welcome to attend) because you had no relevant category\. As I come across editors who I think might be from New Zealand, I add that category for future reference. Schwede66 00:38, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

The latter would be accurate! I have sadly never been to those islands, but I've heard they're wonderful. Generalissima (talk) 00:44, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Wow, that's amazing that you can write such good articles without ever having been there. Well done! Schwede66 01:02, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Hi Schwede! I'm glad you don't seem to have run into trouble on this yet, but I'd fret that there are lots of Wikipedians who are very guarded about their privacy and wouldn't want other people advertising even their country on their userpage. You might benefit from looking into maintaining a mass-mail subscription list, and that way you're not directly making assumptions on Wikipedian whereabouts? Just my two cents :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 01:23, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Statue of Queen Victoria

Oh, another one! Is the Christchurch statue next on your list? The reason I'm asking is that I've got the book Victoria Square: Cradle of Christchurch (and I once paid full price!) on my bookshelf. An excellent source. We could work on it together, if you wish. Schwede66 05:07, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

I have made every change requested but the last one that I don't understand. I admit I have done so with less grace than I should have. I am having some difficulty with ownership I think - which is not like me generally. Usually I value and appreciate cooperation. The truth is that every time someone else has contributed, it has made the article better. You are no exception. You are making the article better. I see that, and I value it, but it doesn't always make me feel less defensive of someone calling my baby ugly. I'll get over it. I'm a pain in the ass sometimes, but this article is worthy of your time, and I will do better. I promise. You are great, and your input has been great. Don't give up on me, please.

Your above article went GA in an hour? That's got to be some kind of record. WOW. Congratulations. That's amazing. Jenhawk777 (talk) 03:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Of course! I apologize I haven't been taking as close of a look at it today; I got sidetracked and should be able to tomorrow. I would like to ideally finish up the GAN review in the next few days :3 Generalissima (talk) 04:12, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
No problem. I had RL interfering with my focus here as well. I look forward to your return. As I said in one comment on the review, I can tell you are taking this seriously, that you are knowledgable, and that all your comments are good and do improve the article. You are one of the best reviewers I have had, and I am truly grateful you are taking the time and trouble to persevere through with me. Jenhawk777 (talk) 16:07, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
