Hey
Do you have any tips for writing better? I'm just not that good at the prose yet. URDNEXT (talk) 22:59, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- Its simple to write on the site. Usually reading other articles can help get a taste of how to write. You can also read stuff like this one. GamerPro64 23:05, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm on board, let's do this! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Peer_review/Deus_Ex/archive2 URDNEXT (talk) 01:13, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Couldn't you have at least consulted the other editors working on the article before doing this? The article has clear problems in it. There are CN tags throughout as well as the Reception section is in shambles. Again, take a look at the sources in the talk page. They are the answer to fixing up the page. GamerPro64 01:21, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hold up, it's not like I'm taking this to FA now. The peer review is meant to get other people's opinions on the article, only. It's probaly as important for an FA run than an actual FA discussion. I'm sorry if I got you worried. Please don't be mad at me. URDNEXT (talk) 01:25, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'll just let this play out and see what will happen next. I'm not mad. Its just that this is a slow cooker of an article. I mean, its on Deus Ex. There's so much to talk about one would think we would over do it on information. GamerPro64 01:29, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- That's exactly the problem I have with Super Mario Bros. 3. If at least someone could help me with it... URDNEXT (talk) 01:34, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

I can't find the original nomination for this, which I need for the Signpost. Can you help? Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:37, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Never mind, found it. FT is one of the hardest for finding candidate pages, though. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:44, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah sorry about that. FT can be difficult sometimes. The fact that the same FT reached the criteria to become one and went unnoticed for three months is a defining example. GamerPro64 01:47, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Sleeping Dogs
Hey, GamerPro, how's it going! I was wondering if you could help me with Sleeping Dogs (video game) since I really need help with it. Ever since I joined Wiki I have been trying to tackle the article alone but I can't seem to do it by myself wit the amount of experience I have. Is there any way you could help me take it to GA? I know you usually only edit Iron Storm related articles, but this one is rated B class so it should be an easy thing for both of us. What do you think? Thanks for everything in advance, URDNEXT (talk) 12:32, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Military articles? Oh boy I can tell this was a copy/paste message. I'll see what I can do but that's just silly. GamerPro64 14:53, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was just doing this because I didn't know who was going to respond. Deeply sorry. URDNEXT (talk) 14:55, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Its all right. You don't have to apologize about everything, btw. GamerPro64 15:00, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, by the way, what do you think of the article? URDNEXT (talk) 15:01, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

- Alright. Byt the way, can you take a look at this Arkham Knight theory? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:URDNEXT/sandbox GamerPro64 URDNEXT (talk) 15:19, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- What exactly is the purpose of the theory? Are you making one up or something? GamerPro64 15:27, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm trying to figure out who is the Arkham Knight, or at least explain him, who he works for, etc. GamerPro64 URDNEXT (talk) 15:31, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think that's allowed on this site. See WP:UPNO for what I mean. GamerPro64 15:36, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Why is it that every time I try to do something it's somewhat not allowed or I do it wrong? GamerPro64 URDNEXT (talk) 15:39, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Deletion request
Hey, I saw your request to delete the redirect at Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1956 Atlantic hurricane season/archive1 which was spawned from a move you did. I wasn't quite sure why the move occurred so the best guess I could make was that you were trying to fix an error in a move, so I moved it back (basically undoing your move). If this wasn't what you were trying to do, sorry. (Something was clearly in error because the talk page that you created out of the move had no associated project page, so it was just a dangling talk page.) Sorry if I messed things up more, and feel free to do whatever you were trying to do again because I've basically just undone everything that happened to put things back to a clean state. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 11:30, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Shirik:I'm okay with my edits being reverted. I think what I was trying to do is difficult to make sense anyway. What I was trying to do was change Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1956 Atlantic hurricane season/archive1 into Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1956 Atlantic hurricane season since someone made the talk page wrong. By any chance would you be able to do something about that? GamerPro64 23:55, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

FT question
Kedok Ketawa was just promoted to FA yesterday. I updated the icon at Wikipedia:Featured topics/Union Films. Is there anything else that needs to be done? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:17, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- What do you mean? The article went from Good Article to Featured Article and you then changed its icon in the topic. I believe all the bases have been covered. GamerPro64 01:19, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's it. I wasn't sure if I had to go through another nomination or something (like people do when adding new articles to a topic) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:26, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- No. Supplementary nominations are a horse of a different color. The topic is all good right now. GamerPro64 01:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. Won't have another FT for a while (though I'm hoping it won't be two years like the time between Chrisye and Union). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:30, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- By the way your articles have been getting through FAC, it may not take that look for another FT. Thinking of when Chrisye was promoted, it reminds me of my three month break from Wikipedia. Surprising dark time that was for the project. GamerPro64 01:38, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't have FTC on my watchlist for the longest time... but at least now, since I've added it, the process seems to be going smoothly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:01, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Right now its running smoothly. Probably also slowly as well when looking at the FT log. But from what I remember, during my break from the site, delegates came and went. One even joining and then leaving within my vacation time. As well, I discovered this last Saturday, that one former delegate forgot to complete a Good Topic after promoting it. This of course had me making it an official topic. Finding out about it two years later was a miracle in of itself since it wasn't even on the Good Topics page. But anyway, for now the project is running pretty well. Possibly even resulting in an increase of Featured Topics made from last year. GamerPro64 04:13, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- No. Supplementary nominations are a horse of a different color. The topic is all good right now. GamerPro64 01:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive
Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!
TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.
If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.
At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.
As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup
Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!
As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:
For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.
For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).
The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

Peer review
Hey Gamer! Is there any way you can give some feedback to Sleeping Dogs on its peer review page? Since me and Tezero will be taking it to FA next week, help would be very much appreciated. Thanks for everything in advance! URDNEXT (talk) 16:01, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

- So... you think it can pass FA then? URDNEXT (talk) 13:10, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe. Why not end the suspense and give it the old college try? Even if it doesn't pass its first FAC, it can be looked at as a learning experience. GamerPro64 13:14, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Feedback
Hey Gamer, I was wondering if you think Sleeping Dogs (video game) could pass FA if we nominate it today, as there are only some minor things me, czar and tezero need to do before the we finish work on the article. Thanks! URDNEXT (talk) 15:51, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
- I guess on face value it'll have a standing at FAC. Besides the dead link that I tagged on there it might be a success. But obviously other editors will do a more through job at combing through the article than I will so you might want to stay on your toes during all of this. GamerPro64 16:03, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup
WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers. Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges. Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC) To receive future GA Cup newsletter, please add your name to our mailing list.

- A User page you say? Oof. There are two issues with that. One, a few years ago I requested for the page to be salted so no one would make it. That can easily be changed of course. But the second issue is that me not having a User page is kinda my trademark. What started out as me not knowing how to make one ended but being something that is part of my identity. Its also my reasoning for having my signature the way it is. Kinda something I would personally be against, honestly. GamerPro64 20:50, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

- Looks good. I'd advice you to extend your first answer a bit further, adding examples of previous administrative stuff you've done. Deletion is an area that voters take extremely serious, so taking a look at your AFD record I consider that it might be a concern to some that your AfD participation is not high. However, I think it will all be balanced by your good track record and content contributions. My nom statement is ready, I'll wait until you sort that out before going live. → Call me Hahc21 02:19, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- Also, "But also I realized that I for the then four years on Wikipedia" is not really clear. I had to reread it four times before getting what you meant. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:23, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Okay, I'm transcluding. Best of luck, fingers crossed, and take it lightly. My RfA was a mess and I know how harsh people can be, so just don't take it to your heart :) → Call me Hahc21 05:25, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Gamer, I saw WritingEnthusiast's comment in your RFA and it didn't make sense to me, but I saw that you had already replied to it. May I suggest that you hesitate before replying to such comments to see if another editor comments - that way it avoids looking like you're badgering oppose !votes. Good luck! DexDor (talk) 20:55, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll stop doing that. Didn't realize that trying to figure out ones comments was a bad thing. Wasn't intending to badger. All I want to know was what they meant by something they said. That has to come off as harmless. GamerPro64 21:00, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

LGS video games FT
Flight Unlimited III just passed FAC, so it looks like the LGS video games FT is finally complete. Just in time, too: System Shock is going to be a TFA in a few days, which means that the FT can now be displayed on the front page. I'm sure it's a pain to shuffle 17 pages from GT to FT, but, if you could find time to do it before Shock's TFA, I'd really appreciate it. Can't believe I've finally reached the end of this project. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 01:38, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- I can't believe it either. Congrats Jimmy. I'm away from a computer right now but I when get onto one I'll get the topic processed. Again, great job man. GamerPro64 01:54, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- I was looking for the new nomination for this for the Signpost but there is only one nomination for this topic and it's for GT, so I'm assuming that this is an automatic promotion from GT to FT although in my quick search of the rules for FTs I can't find a rule that talks about automatic promotions. --Pine✉ 05:15, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- The answer is quite simple, @Pine: Automatic promotion literally means it automatically becomes a Featured Topic. Once 50% of the the content in a topic is of Featured Content, it goes from Good to Featured. No nomination needed. GamerPro64 14:21, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- OK thank you. Where is the policy that says this? --Pine✉ 18:55, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- There isn't exactly a policy. Topics are coded that they know that when at least 50% of the topics content is of Featured Content, it becomes Featured. I'm actually writing a piece to submit to the Signpost to help with the understanding of the process. GamerPro64 19:00, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Re:P.N.03
Sadly, I don't have access to it. My collection has no issues of Play, and that magazine doesn't appear to have had a website until almost a year after the relevant issue. It's also very difficult to Google search, since "Play" is an indistinct word and "Play Magazine" barrages you with Playboy results. Unless someone else in WPVG secretly has the issue, I think it's a lost cause. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- Had a long look through my magazines and found surprisingly little—nothing that isn't already covered in the article. The OPA similarly turned up next to nothing. Google brought up Edge and Retro Gamer pieces that aren't in the article yet, but I don't think they'll add much, if anything. It looks like the article might already contain all of the extant sources. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 02:27, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- With that in mind, would you like me to give it a copyediting run-through? Or is there anything you want to add to it first? JimmyBlackwing (talk) 02:40, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think starting a copyedit would be a pretty good start. With this Eurogamer Retrospective and the references you've given me, I think that we might be fine in terms of referencing. GamerPro64 02:42, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- Copyedit is complete for now. I think Plot and gameplay could be expanded a bit—the game's genre and perspective aren't even mentioned, for example—but the article's in decent shape content-wise. Call me back for another run-through after you've added whatever you think is necessary. After that, it should be good to go for FAC. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 20:39, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- I thought that section was the weakest part of the article. I'll look more into that. Btw, what do you think of my newly made User Page? GamerPro64 20:42, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think it's a shame that you had to sacrifice your trademark because of RFA criticism, but you'll manage, I suppose. Brave move accepting the RFA in general—the process is like being thrown to the wolves. Good luck; I put in my two cents, whatever they're worth. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 20:50, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for giving you opinion on the RfA as well. I really don't like making the page myself. But, like you said, I'll manage. I hope. GamerPro64 20:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey
I think I owe you an apology. I finally understand why we have less and less people running for adminship every day, and I also understand why this is not going to change. There were some legitimate concerns in your RfA that you might want to look into, but I wouldn't run again if I were you. I have no idea how did I went through it three times, but I guess my skin is excessively thick. I hope you don't feel discouraged by the result: you still continue to be a valued user for this project :) → Call me Hahc21 02:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- You don't have to apologies, Hahc. I'm not going to run for RfA again. Heck, I removed the nomination from my watch list yesterday. The main reason for this mindset is that, while I do understand the XfD concerns, I am astonished by the fact that character assassinations are allowed in these discussions. Nothings better than making an editor look like a piece of trash and his work be worthless. This was admittedly a rough week. But that may also have to do with this happening during mid-terms week on my end. But at least this'll be my answer to "What is the worst thing to happen to you on Wikipedia?". GamerPro64 03:04, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I failed my first RfA but I focused on areas that people pointed out and a few months later I passed. I took the criticism in the spirit it was given.
- You are actually being treated very favorably at your RfA, my first go had a much lower percentage for support. You may not pass this time but don't let it discourage you from trying in the future. Just make sure you can document how you have improved in the areas you were criticized for in the first RfA. Chillum 03:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Chillum, I know that you are trying to be encouraging but I checked your first RfA. Yours happened in 2006. And you only made over 5000 edits when you ran again. I wasn't around during that time but I am aware by how different the process was. I may have gotten a higher support percentage, but you still had a better discussion than I. I got Opposed because of a conversation at the Rewards Board and how I needed to understand licensing more. I got it explained to me in that same exchange. It wasn't like I uploaded the actual image. I got Opposed for taking credit for Featured Pictures I nominated but I did nothing in terms of uploading or making changes to them. That's happens in FPC. I can't even add on to that. I got Opposed to taking credit for getting Anachronox to FA. I got Opposed for having my username the color red. And apparently being immature because of that. I got Opposed for making only one article.
- I'm sorry if this is sounding angry but I need some catharsis right now. To be called immature and inexperienced and timid is certainly not something I asked for. Thank you for what you have said but I am still set on not running again. At least not the way RfA is being run right now. GamerPro64 03:44, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I felt the same way when my RfA closed. Even when it indeed passed by a long margin, the bitter flavor left by the silly oppose comments were enough to make me take a break from editing altogether. It feels quite discouraging to see how people that hasn't done even half of what you (or me) has done for this project is opposing you on the grounds of being "inexperienced." The level of nit-pickiness displayed this week goes far beyond what can be called ridiculous. Time helped me erase the bad memories from that terrible week in March, but the past seven days have shown me that nothing has improved. What I can tell you is to forget that it happened, and continue with the good work. Just don't give a fuck about what they said there, you know that most of it is not true. → Call me Hahc21 03:55, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hahc, you're right. I just want to nominate a picture for FPC, try to do some work on an article Jimmy helped find sources for so we can get it to FA and make a Featured Topic, and do anything else I normally do here. And for Chillum, thank you for striking out your support after making that comment. Certainly a slap in the face I deserve. GamerPro64 04:01, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- @Chillum: One thing is criticism, and another thing is what happened with a bunch of opposes. There were some legitimate concerns (like AfD and lack of admin-y experience overall), but things like "he didn't take the picture he took to FPC," or "he didnt create Ananchronox" are comments I consider irrespectful to the work he has done. → Call me Hahc21 04:42, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- Hey Gamer. I'm sorry about the results of your RfA. Please keep in mind that you're a great contributor and the community still greatly appreciates all the work you do. Just address the issues raised in the oppose section, and don't let this discourage you from having another try at it in a few months. If you do that, I'm confident that you'll pass next time. :) Best wishes, --Writing Enthusiast (talk | contribs) 04:58, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comment WritingEnthusiast14. I probably won't run for RfA for a while. I do believe what I went through needs to be reformed. If one of the reasons for being opposed is because my signature is red, there's a problem in the system. But yeah. If I do run again, hope to see you there. GamerPro64 05:07, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Regarding the message on my talk page: it wasn't much fun to watch your nom. I stood up for you where I could. I'd have done more, but I tend to get aggressive when jerky behavior (like that of several commenters during the RfA) is targeted at people I respect, so I restrained myself to avoid hurting your chances. There was a lot of stupidity during that nom—more than I'd be able to ignore in your position, so good job on that front. I think you're obviously admin material: your helpfulness and janitor work are better than those of many actual admins I've seen over the years. You would probably pass if you spent a few months doing content work and AfD participation, but I understand why you wouldn't bother with a renom. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 05:55, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Also, that strikethrough from Chillum is hilarious. This kind of behavior is why I've always tried to stay away from the inner workings of Wikipedia—absolutely caustic immaturity. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 06:05, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- It was not meant to be funny. The fact is that admins need to be able to withstand unreasonable criticism on a regular basis. If someone does not react well to unfounded criticism then being an admin is a recipe for disaster. Chillum 16:29, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry the community let you down, GP64. Many of the comments at the RfA were ridiculous or uselessly vague and I think a lot of people recognized that up until the last 48 hours when the piling-on began. It was not a good show of courtesy to allow you to build up hopes if they intended to dash them at the last second. For what it's worth, I think you just didn't match the standard pre-admin profile. You didn't campaign to become an admin, you didn't hang around drama boards and network with the sole intention of elevating yourself, and you've never puffed yourself up and thrown your weight around like a lot of admin hopefuls do. In short you didn't act with the sense of self-importance that many have come to expect from admins. A lot of people fetishize power, mistaking ambition for wisdom and officiousness for experience and maturity. Don't let that get to you and please don't let that change your style. I still think you'd make a great admin and I hope I get a chance to cast another support !vote on your behalf some time down the road. -Thibbs (talk) 18:08, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- Tell me about the laughing. (I have RIP on my user page, first article of the year was about a man who died, another died last month.) I must have missed the joke. (That happens a lot, and you can email me if explaining is too embarassing.) - As for the empty user page, it would have been no problem for me. I actually like users who - unlike myself - shine in contributions alone. I understand a certain sadness, giving up that silence ;) - Candidate, if I find your other contributions as precious as handling this matter, I will support. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:08, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

- It's a bit of... well, perhaps American humor. Or maybe I'm not funny; that's always a possibility. GamerPro's inclusion of a RIP notice for his user page, on his user page, was funny both for equating the user page to a person (although I understand, it's essentially Gamer losing part of his identity) and as a passive-aggressive protest at feeling pressured into doing something. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:00, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Pretty much. I don't know what else to put into the page besides that little detail. Besides, I consider that to be of historical purpose, letting people know that at one point here I didn't have a user page. Now that I do, however, it feels like the end of an era. GamerPro64 18:26, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- This specific event brings me back the memory of when I had to leave aside my iconic signature just because it was causing quite a stir in my RfA. The end of an era, indeed. → Call me Hahc21 22:02, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Really? Man. I remember your signature. Didn't know that was the reason for you not carrying it around anymore. GamerPro64 22:13, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah. People questioned me about it and I told them it was part of my identity. Guess what came next: the calls for "immaturity." Anyways, I gave up at the end and came up with this signature. I was certainly not risking my RfA any further because of it. → Call me Hahc21 00:26, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- One of the reasons I've never had a fancy custom signature. The only customization I did was add an MDash, and that's because I kept forgetting to leave a space before signing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:07, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- My signature isn't even fancy. All it is is my name colored red. And it's linked to my talk page, the page I consider to be important. I really do feel like there's a bias against red links on Wikipedia that needs to be brought up. GamerPro64 03:22, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
