File:Federation Haitienne de Football.png
Hi Expicit. Would you mind taking a look at this edit? Someone has re-added the file to Haiti national football team and removed it from Haitian Football Federation. This is a day-old account that has done the same thing for some other similar files. They could just be new and not understand the NFCC; or, they could've just created a new account to make these types of edits. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:03, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Hi, I have blocked the account as an obvious sockpuppet and reverted those edits. If their other contributions need to be reverted, feel free to do so. ✗plicit 13:10, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- I was posting a message on their user talk page and didn't notice your ping. Perhaps they'll respond, but maybe it was just a throw-away account. Pinging Whpq, Fastily and JJMC89 as a courtesy since they had previously removed some of the files that were re-added by this account. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:26, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
File:HarmonyOS 4.2 Home screen.jpg
Hi Explicit! My mentee, XeVierTech, has uploaded c:File:HarmonyOS 4.2 Home screen.jpg to Commons, but it is a non-free screenshot. Would you be able to Special:Import it to enwiki and delete it at Commons? Thanks, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 14:42, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- @HouseBlaster: Hmm, it seems that only the description page was imported. The image itself will need to be uploaded manually. ✗plicit 14:49, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- Will do. Thank you so much! It should probably be deleted from Commons as a fair use image. HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 14:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- In the most gentle way possible to say this, it appears you accidentally imported all of the templates used in the file, overwriting the local version. So, e.g., enwiki's {{information}} now contains all of the history of c:Template:information. Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 15:09, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Template:License template tag?
What is going on with {{License template tag}} and other unused and/or empty templates that you appear to be importing from Commons, especially given that the templates appear to be deprecated, empty, or unused on Commons? Is there a discussion that I can read? You usually know what you are doing, so I assume that something useful is happening here. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:27, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Hey Explicit, I wanted to follow up with your deletion closure of 2020 Games. As it was 2 !votes to delete, a !vote to not delete, plus a comment pointing towards the term's widespread usage, I feel that should have been relisted. 1992 Games targets the 1992 Olympics, 2008 Games targets the 2008 Olympics. Furthermore, 2022 video games targets 2022 in video games, and all of which have been longstanding redirects of precedent. If anything, 2020 Games should have targeted either the 2020 Olympics, or 2020 in games, with a hatnote indicating that wherever it redirects (as "2020 games" is a highly used method of referring to either of the two subjects). I don't think the subsequent deletion votes were particularly strong in this situation ("not useful" was countered with evident use in sources, and a per nom); if a title is simple and searchable enough, hatnoting the most relevant titles is usually a preferred method compared to outright deletion, especially if a primary topic is known (which seems to be the case here). Please let me know what you think! Utopes (talk / cont) 18:49, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Possible Folding of EuroLeague Broadcasters into EuroLeague Article
Hi @Explicit,
As you were the admin who closed the List of EuroLeague broadcasters article, can you yourself please provide me a copy of a draft of the old article, or can you direct me to how best to obtain it? Re-doing 'Michael Huppe' Deleted Wikipedia Page
Hello @Explicit! Hope all is well with you.
I am looking to post a new Wikipedia page for 'Michael Huppe' to replace and improve upon content that was previously deleted, and noticed that you were the most recent user to interact with the original page and ultimately remove it. I wanted to reach out to you first before proceeding with creating the new page. [Here is the old page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Michael_Huppe]
I can see that you have been active on Wikipedia for many years and have a broad range of experience. Since you have worked on many things since the page I'm referencing was deleted, I would like to provide a very brief refresher: For your background, Michael Huppe is a music industry executive, author and professor of law, currently serving as CEO of SoundExchange. SoundExchange is a non-profit and is the only organization designated by the U.S. government to collect and distribute digital performance royalties for sound recordings. Michael Huppe, both in his role at SoundExchange as an individual who engages in music rights advocacy, has played an integral role in policy development and has been directly involved with the passage of several important industry pieces of legislation, amongst other personal and professional achievements.
Regarding the new page I would like to create for Michael Huppe, it is important to note that the new proposed copy is different from what previously existed on the page and includes a significant number of new sources and added context that affirm the individual's notability.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts, questions or suggestions regarding the creation of a new 'Michael Huppe' page. Your expertise here is incredibly valuable and any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thank you for considering. Hannrose (talk) 17:03, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Explicit,
I'm not sure if you live where there is Daylight Savings time but for the U.S., the clocks changed in the autumn on November 5, 2023. So we can no longer go strictly by the time of the last human edit on the draft, you have to add an hour to that time to delete it properly or go by the UTC time on the SDZEROBot list. If you don't live where you "spring forward, fall back", well, I guess you were just a little eager with the draft deletions today. Thanks and glad you are back. Liz Read! RfD relist request
Hi Explicit :) In the light of arguments made in various sections of Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 April 24 (e.g. #The F-Bomb (film), #F-Bomb (documentary)), please could you consider undeleting and relisting the RfD for The F-Bomb (documentary), which didn't receive comments from editors other than the nominator? All the best, —a smart kitten[meow] 12:59, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

Potential G5 undeletions
Hello there, unfortunately as part of the whole Ylogm saga the pages Ming succession dispute, Yang Rong (mandarin), Yang Shiqi and Yang Pu (Ming dynasty) they created while socking all got G5'd. Since the content is unrelated to the reason for their block and were all very good starts for pages, would you consider their undeletion? Thank you very much.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yuri Lushchai
I am afraid I didn't find a rationale for deletion during the closing of nomination. I as author of the article was not pinged on the nomination page by the person who nominated, or anyone else in discussion. Therefore I couldn't provide a rationale for keeping. There are two articles in Radio Liberty about him, and numerius others providing significant coverage. As the result, I ask you to restore the article. BilboBeggins (talk) 13:26, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

- @BilboBeggins @Explicit I have no issue with the draftification, however note that at Wikipedia_talk:Deceased_Wikipedians#Yuri_Lushchai consensus was that he wasn't appropriate to list there either. There is going to be a long road back to mainspace. His death is sad, but that doesn't make him notable per English Wikipedia standards. Star Mississippi 12:51, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- But listing at deceased Wikipedians is not connected to notability, and Wikipedia is international encyclopedia, so many locally known figures have also wikipages in English. The criterion is significant coverage in reliable sources, that is what I want to establish. I want to underline that he did have coverage in reliable sources, though they wrre in Russian and Ukrainian. BilboBeggins (talk) 18:53, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- Correct, but when someone isn't notable prior to their death, their death being in the news doesn't make them notable. WP:BLP1E and WP:NOTAMEMORIAL apply. That is the issue that came up here. I hope you're able to identify sufficient sourcing to change that, but it didn't appear to be the case. Star Mississippi 02:24, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- There are arguments that he is notable as scientist and poet.
- We have plenty of articles that have only sources published after death. BilboBeggins (talk) 06:50, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome to keep trying, but what you've added so far does not negate the AfD consensus which was strong that he wasn't notable by either criteria. He was in the news following his death, but that doesn't make his work meet the criteria. Star Mississippi 13:50, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Explicit,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to discuss the deletion of the Wikipedia page for Ziad Sakr, a professional squash player. I've reviewed the deletion reasons and would like to understand the specific issues to address them appropriately in a new page creation.
Ziad has been active on the professional tour for almost a year and has made significant progress, rising from a world ranking of 800 to a peak of 179 in January 2024, and currently holding a rank of 192. He has won a professional title and several major junior titles, including the British Junior Open. Additionally, he earned a silver medal at the World Championships team event in Poland, was named Player of the Year in college squash, achieved All-American status, and won other notable titles in college squash. All the articles and proper citation were cited.
For comparison, I've observed that athletes with similar or lesser achievements have maintained pages on Wikipedia, such as:
- Joseph White (squash player)
- Matías Knudsen
- Vikram Malhotra
- Low Wee Nee
- Kush Kumar
- Thoboki Mohohlo - despite having no citations or listed achievements.
- Abdalah El Masry
Could you please provide specific feedback on what was lacking in Ziad's initial page and guide me on how to meet the notability criteria more effectively? I am keen to ensure the new page adheres to all Wikipedia guidelines and provides a factual, well-documented profile for Ziad Sakr. Thank you for your time and assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Squash writer (talk • contribs)
- Squash writer, Explicit deleted the article; they didn't nominate it for deletion, or argue for deletion. The reasons for deletion are right there in the discussion. Comparing with other articles only goes so far. Did you compare with bad articles or with good articles, or even Good Articles? Thank you, Drmies (talk) 22:08, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Deletion of Annamalai Kuppusamy
Hi @Explicit,
I recently stumbled upon the draft page for the Wikipedia article on Annamalai Kuppusamy, which was deleted following a discussion almost four years ago in 2020. Originally, the article aimed to highlight Annamalai Kuppusamy as an Indian Police Service officer, but his trajectory has since shifted towards politics. He currently serves as the state president of Tamil Nadu for his party and has participated in Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections, alongside his current candidacy in India's general elections.
Interestingly, his article exists on the Tamil Wikipedia and was created by User:பயனர்:Almighty34 who also happens to be an administrator on the Tamil Wikipedia. Given this, I believe there should be consistency across languages in Wikipedia.
Notably, Kuppusamy meets the criteria for WP:NPOL due to extensive media coverage, with mentions in nearly every major reliable Indian source listed in WP:RSP, including The Indian Express which also has a profile page on him. He has also received coverage from The Guardian and Al Jazeera English which is rare for local politicians in India.
If the reasons outlined above still do not suffice, then I propose that if the English version of the article is considered insufficient, the corresponding Tamil language page should similarly be removed and restricted to admin creation only to ensure uniformity across languages.
Looking forward to your thoughts on this matter. Xoocit (talk) 17:22, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, An AFD that I created[1] and that you relisted[2] is still open. It appears that maybe when you removed it from the April 19th log, it was not added to the April 26th log? I'm not sure how to fix it. -- Mike 🗩 12:55, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Creating Page Title, You deleted in AFD 2 years back.
Hi, entirely re-written an article at my Sandbox, since the title is protected for ADMIN only. I cant directly publish there, I would like you to move it from my Sandbox. Here’s the reason why this time its different I’ve not added anything thats not in the media, after reading last AFD what I’ve understand is the article previously deleted may have been completely promotional. I wrote unbiased neutral and title definitely passes BLP - GNG.
Also my friend at my IT company has asked me to write this so I’ll be definitely disclosing it at talk page and userpage after.
Here’s the AFD link:

Seeking Guidance on Republishing Sergey Smbatyan's Article on Wikipedia
Hey @Explicit,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your invaluable contributions to improving Wikipedia content. Your dedication to maintaining accuracy and reliability within the platform is truly commendable.
I am reaching out to discuss a matter regarding an article draft that was deleted last year under your supervision. The draft in question pertains to Sergey Smbatyan, and it was removed due to a lack of reliable sources at the time.
Since then, I worked to gather sufficient and verifiable sources covering Sergey Smbatyan's accomplishments and contributions. I believe that now I have a robust set of references that meet Wikipedia's standards for reliability.
Given your expertise in this area, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the process of republishing the article. I want to ensure that I adhere to all Wikipedia guidelines and protocols to guarantee the article's compliance and accuracy.
Your insights and direction on this matter would be immensely valuable to me, and I am eager to collaborate with you to bring this article back to the platform in a manner that upholds Wikipedia's integrity.
Thank you once again for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Deletion Review Article Universidad Del Pacífico - Ecuador
Hello @Explicit
As per instruction on Deletion review
"Consider attempting to discuss the matter with the closer as this could resolve the matter more quickly. There could have been a mistake, miscommunication, or misunderstanding, and a full review may not be needed. Such discussion also gives the closer the opportunity to clarify the reasoning behind a decision"
I wish to propose that the article be temporarily undeleted and be relisted to the if possible within WikiProject Higher education in order to recieve the input from editor peers that are working on similar projects.
Best Regards,HarveyPrototype (talk) 22:39, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- @HarveyPrototype: Hi, this AFD had already been relisted once and was open for two weeks. When it was open, it was listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Organizations, Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Schools, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Ecuador. None of the concerns brought up by the nominator or subsequent "delete" !votes were adequately addressed. I do not see a reason to open the discussion for an additional third week. ✗plicit 12:10, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Explicit
- Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your attention to the process and your efforts in listing the AFD in relevant WikiProjects. However, I would like to highlight the ongoing discussion in the WikiProject Higher education, which is currently more active than the Wikiproject Ecuador. In this conversation, other editors have identified significant coverage of the university that was not brought to attention during the deletion discussion.
- Given that WikiProject Higher Education is more active and has more experience with articles of this nature, I believe it would be beneficial to relist the article for deletion in this project. This would allow for a more thorough review by editors who are well-versed in the criteria for notability and sourcing for educational institutions.
- I respectfully request that the article be relisted under the appropriate WikiProject to ensure a comprehensive and fair evaluation.
- Thank you for considering this appeal. HarveyPrototype (talk) 18:00, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Drafting process (recent deletion G8) Kosmos_2553
re: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=162239463
I am not versed in the latest article creation norms. Last night I started to create a missing page for one of the entries in this table List of Kosmos satellites (2501–2750) for Kosmos_2553. Since it was late at night, I decided to gather draft article content in the Talk page of the article and revise it today. Instead, the page was deleted for G8 - which is fine, I understand my approach was not the norm. So, what IS the norm when organizing material for the initial content of a page? Just use a section of my personal page I imagine. Or directly post initial draft to article, then revise soon. Just don't leave article blank! ha.
Lastly, is there a reason you didn't just move the content of Talk:Kosmos_2553 to the empty Kosmos_2553? I assume because you didn't need to spend time reading the talk page since the situation was clear cut deletion due to G8... Mac (talk) 23:38, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Macowell: There was no article content on the talk page, so moving it into mainspace was not reasonable. If you are simply gathering sources, it would be safer to add them into a subpage in userspace or create a page in draftspace. Would you like me to restore the content and move it? ✗plicit 00:12, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. in the future, I will use my userspace sandbox page for the same kind of draft/research work. No need to restore; I just finished writing the article with more sources. check it out actually let me know if it passes muster: Kosmos 2553 Mac (talk) 01:57, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Recent AFD close
Hi Explicit!
I see that you recently closed this article nomination at AfD as no-consensus because it hadn't received any participation in the deletion discussion. If I really think that the article fails WP:GNG and has no adequate coverage, what would be the best course of action? Should I PROD it, re-nominate at AFD or wait for a while before doing any of the two above?
Thanks so much!
Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 21:46, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Cocobb8: Hi, in general, users are advised to wait three months before nominating a page for deletion again. This particular article is not eligible for WP:PROD, so it must go through AFD once more. If there is a possible WP:ATD, that's a step worth considering as well. ✗plicit 00:12, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Low-res image was moved to Commons; not sure what process to use
I have a question about File:1925-1926 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team.png, and I'm asking you because (1) you were the deleting admin and (2) you know the processes better than I do.
This image was non-free when uploaded, but copyright expired in 2022. Only the low-resolution reduction was transferred to Commons, while the high-resolution original upload remains in the deleted history here. I tried to download the high-res image to disk and upload on top of the Commons image with attribution, but I don't have the requisite permissions to overwrite at Commons.
Where can I request this type of operation? I suppose I could undelete the full-res file here and tag as {{Incomplete move to Commons}} for further attention, but this may be too confusing. There are undoubtedly more files in this situation. Wikiacc (¶) 02:05, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Wikiacc: I have exported it with the original revision, you can now simply reverted to it on Commons. ✗plicit 03:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! Based on what you did, it looks like the next time I see this situation, I'll tag the Commons file for speedy deletion under G5, undelete the file here, and then do the export properly. Wikiacc (¶) 21:32, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Undelete page
Hi, I noticed you closed this PROD a while back. I would like to request undeletion. The concern was "Unused, obviously incorrect license tag (not PD-US), but unclear if this is eligible for Commons. Esoteric file format, dubious encyclopedic value".
- "Unused" - Can just be transferred to Commons, File:Chittenden Hotel 1963.tif is a crop of this image so might as well have this image around
- "obviously incorrect license tag" - image was made in 1963, likely published somewhere without notice. Website also states "No known copyright restrictions", it is unlikely these photos went unpublished.
- "esoteric file format" - tif is in no way esoteric
- "dubious encyclopedic value" - the cropped image I linked is being used in Wikipedia. Clear c:COM:EDUSE.

Deletion of Alaa Najjar
hi can you check the news again in this article i think should be go to delete not relaibel sources and not good sources Hi mana oh w0 (talk) 06:14, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher)@Hi mana oh w0: I'm not Explicit, but I just want to let you know that the "Alaa Najjar" article was actually nominated for deletion a few years ago but was kept per the consensus established at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alaa Najjar. Have you taken a look at that discussion? I guess, in principle, you can nominate the article for deletion a second time if you really think it needs to be discussed again. If, however, you decide to do that and just simply repeat the same delete arguments made in the previous discussion, you're unlikely going to gain any real support from others. In addition, since you've only made two edits with your account so far, and both have been related to trying to get this article deleted, others will likely wonder about your reasons for soing so. Is your interest in having this article deleted perhaps related to reasons not havning anything to do with Wikipedia? To be honest, it's a bit odd when someone randomly appears out of the blue and create an account simply for the purpose of seeking an article's deletion, and it kind of gives the impression that there may be something more going on that's not really Wikipedia related. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:48, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi Explicit, its me again. You deleted this file on the back of this discussion. The main reason given for its deletion was lack of understanding. This image is the official logo for the 2024 Indian general election (www.https://elections24.eci.gov.in/) Shouldnt such images be there on the respective wikipedia pages? I understand that the infobox currently does not support election logos, but it had found space whithin the scope of the article. As a pic, it has served its purpose of being the official logo so I dont see why it should not be there. Pharaoh496 (talk) 18:40, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
@Pharaoh496: I'm not seeing how its use in the article was justified in accordance with WP:NFCC. It was used decoratively in the body of the article and the logo lacked sourced critical commentary to meet the contextual significance criterion. ✗plicit 11:33, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- For instance, the 2019 Indian general election has its logo below the infobox. They are used in such a way because the infobox is not equipped to include a logo. This, however should not be the reason for the exclusion of the logo from the article itself, and kept there temporarily till the infobox gets that parameter, or either stays there below the infobox in perpetuity. Pharaoh496 (talk) 12:13, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
@Pharaoh496: Other stuff exists is not an indication that the other logo is justified by policy. I have nominated it for deletion. The infobox not possessing a parameter for election logos is probably a sign that their use is not justified. ✗plicit 13:00, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

I am contacting you (hopefully in the right way) to contest the deletion of my Wikipedia page "Can Man Dan". I'm not sure why it was deleted, but I happened to notice its removal today when I was speaking at a school and we were trying to pull up some information and relevant news stories.

Believe it or not, that article helps me fundraise for a variety of free community events in Alberta -- it's a nice way for people to see our (my team and I) history as do-gooders. I would love to have it back if possible? I may not be famous worldwide, but people know me up in Canada -- which I'm not sure counts lol
I saw that it was self-gratifying or whatever you posted, and I can tell you that I don't edit my own page lol. I barely know if this is the best way to get a hold of you to contest this deletion.
Anyway, thank you for your consideration and God bless.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there. Since you extensively work in this field, I wanted to ask: is using a non-free album cover inappropriate when the topic of the article is not the album / soundtrack itself? Yes, it can be added after creating a separate article for it, but what if the album is not notable enough to have its own dedicated article and only exists as a sub-section of another? Can it be used after appending a valid rationale explicitly stating that it will be only used in a single article to illustrate the appearance of the said work? Thank you. Lunar-akaunto

- @Lunar-akaunto: Hi, in general, it's not appropriate to use a non-free album cover on any page other than in the infobox of the article about the album itself. ✗plicit 12:36, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not that I'm bordering on the guidelines themselves, but it's just that I never gave this much thought before. Can there be exceptions to this, say, if a consensus is reached on the talk page of the said article? Contextual significance says to use it when it would increase the readers' understanding. That clearly justifies the use in an article where the album itself is the topic, but I don't understand how it does not apply to an article where the album is listed as a sub-section of another. The cover still remains very much inferior to the original and, in no way, is detrimental to the original work.
Lunar-akaunto
/talk 13:40, 15 June 2024 (UTC) - One more important thing: the template does not say anything about this, but I wanted to ask just how many extra covers can be used in an album's infobox. I see alternative covers being used left and right; can there be a second alternative cover added if it is substantially different from the previous two present? My conscience says going over 3 would be overkill, no matter how different the covers may be, but I think it's already not so wise to speak of adding a second alternative cover. What do you think of this?
Lunar-akaunto
/talk 13:44, 15 June 2024 (UTC)- @Lunar-akaunto: There have been several RFCs in the past about the subject, which is explained in detail at WP:NFC#cite_note-3. Consensus has time and time again that the use of album covers anywhere outside of the album article generally do not meet the contextual significant criterion.
- Regarding the use of a second extra album cover, I can't say that I'm aware of any examples off the top of my head. I do vaguely remember many years ago a discussion at FFD regarding seven very different additional album covers by a European singer, and I'm pretty sure all of them were deleted because none of them were critically discussed in the article. ✗plicit 14:02, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- I understand. One last thing, since this seems to depend on the context and significance of the cover on the section, do you suggest I try proposing adding the cover to the article's talk page?
Lunar-akaunto
/talk 15:47, 15 June 2024 (UTC) - Seven covers?! That's not something I could think of.
- Anyhow, thank you for your help.

/talk 15:50, 15 June 2024 (UTC)- (talk page watcher) Just going to add the following to what Explicit posted above. The first is that a local consensus can't supersede a community-wide one; in other words, article talk page discussion can't take precendence over established community-wide policy or guidelines just because it's what those discussing on the talk page might want to do. The second one is that even though the people making templates like {{extra album cover}} have really made some things easier, they sometimes either don't give much thought to or intentionally avoid going into too much detail in the template's documentation as to how policies related to image use might impact the use of the template. There are lots of templates that have an image-related parameter, but it's really the responsiblity of those wanting to use an image in a template (not the template's creator) to make sure doing so complies with relevant policies related to image use. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:29, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Yes, exactly; that's what I thought as well, which is why I asked here. Thank you for linking to the template; it was helpful. About the template creators specifying the use in the template, when i said the template does not say anything about this, what i meant was not to imply that the template should mention it or question the creators' choice but just a query since it doesn't mention it. I totally understand that just because a parameter exists and is there does not mean that it should or can be used. Anyhow, my doubts regarding this are cleared now.
- If you don't mind, see, I understand one exception to using cover art where the album itself is not the topic of the article is where adequate and properly sourced commentary is provided. Do you thin it is appropriate to add the cover art for The Garden of Words#Soundtrack? My reasoning for this is that the album is not very well known; it was never released as a standalone album and was released only bundled with the movie. To date, the album is digitally exclusive to Japan. I think it'd be helpful to readers in recognising the said album, as even the web doesn't filter many results. Not being well known, in turn, might raise concerns about piracy, but that's already countered by using a low resolution cover that is very inferior to the original.
- One last thing: do you think there are any chances of this being approved if a consensus is appealed to the community? Is Wikipedia talk:Non-free content talk page the right place to propose it? thank you.
Lunar-akaunto
/talk 06:51, 16 June 2024 (UTC)- I'll answer your questions in reverse order since the second one is easier to answer. Proposals to change policy or general questions as to how it's applied should be made/asked at WT:NFCC, whereas discussion related to an individual file and how it's being used should be made a WP:FFD. Regarding The Garden of Words, I think there's zero chance of such a non-free use being cosidered policy compliant; not only because of WP:NFC#cite_note-3 that Explicit mentioned above, but also because of WP:FILMSCORE. So, unless there's something about the cover art itself (i.e. some controversy or other reason) covered in some depth by reliable sources, none of the reasoning you posted above would (again in my opinion) rise above the level of WP:DECORATIVE non-free use. Even in that case, such content would be more appropriate for a stand-alone article about the album or perhaps a stand-alone article about the artist/creator/designer of the cover art. If you tried to add a non-free album cover to that section, the file would likely be WP:PRODded for deletion as clear-cut violation of relevant policy. You could WP:DEPROD it, but I don't see a consensus being established for in favor of its inclusion at FFD. As for being
digitally exclusive to Japan
, I'm not sure how that's even possible given today's technologies, but it might also not even be true because of this, this, this and this (assuming that's the same soundtrack). Finally, even the track list in that section probably shouldn't be there per "WP:FiLMSCORE". -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:46, 16 June 2024 (UTC)- @Marchjuly: Mmm I see. But, well, it's fine. I just wanted a third opinion, and I can agree with what you said. It's not something major, so I'll drop the idea of adding the cover and get on the same boat as you and @Explicit.
- Okay, so I didn't originally add the listing here; it existed long before, but considering it is a good article, the reviewer or others probably considered it, right? i don't ever recall reading WP:FILMSCORE. This is the first time someone's pointed me to it. Though i must admit this doesn't excuse me from adding listings, I have done it very often. So, I'm genuinely confused now. Is it walking the thin line when adding the listing themselves? I mean, we're not streaming the audio, and we have already omitted the cover where possible, so how is it detrimental to the original work?
- About the release, what you listed in 3 of the links is Kotonoha (言ノ葉) by Motohiro Hata, who sang the theme song for the film (it is not the official soundttrack to the film but a single by Hata, which too was exclusive to Japan until recently; it only received a global release last year). What I was talking about was The Garden of Words Original Soundtrack (言の葉の庭 サウンドトラック). To date, it is exclusive to Japan, for whatever reason the label knows. It is one of my favourites, but it's a shame the label never went for global release. (the 4th link is unofficial and was uploaded by some random user, but it still remains that sources like that are what allowed me to listen to the soundtrack in the first place, but it's fine because the profits still go to the label).

- @Saqib: Hi, it took me a minute to figure out what transpired as well. Basically, 2409:4050:2DB8:63D5:7C2B:8C48:5F7E:EDF5 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) performed a cut-and-paste move by copying the content of Junaid Khan (actor) over to Junaid Khan (Pakistani actor), and the IP redirected the former into the latter. You moved the latter into draftspace and tagged the resulting redirect for speedy deletion in accordance with WP:CSD#R2. I deleted it as such, unbeknownst to me that the newly formed redirect Junaid Khan (actor) made by the IP went with it. I inspected it and noticed over 400 deleted revisions, which is not typical for a redirect. After putting the pieces together, I reverted the edits on Junaid Khan (actor) to restore the article content and on Junaid Khan (Pakistani actor) to restore the redirect, then moved the redirect history back into mainspace. Hopefully, it's a lot easier to understand this than it was to explain it. ✗plicit 14:10, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Errors in deleting orphaned fair use files
Yesterday, I went through all the files in Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files as of 21 June 2024, to see if any were worth saving and ran out of time. I was going to come back to them today, when I noticed that several of them were already deleted. I believe you made some errors in your deletion of orphaned fair use files yesterday. File:Ogo Bodhu Shundori.jpg was in use in Ogo Bodhu Shundori at the time of its deletion, here is where the file was added back six hours before its deletion, [4] and here is where ImageRemovalBot removed the file after you deleted it, [5]. Several other files were deleted with being tagged for less than seven days. All of these files were tagged on the June 21 and were in Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files as of 21 June 2024 and were deleted after June 26 instead of June 28: File:Bagh Bondi Khela poster.jpg, File:FelixLeiterCoverArt.jpg, File:Vanathai Pola serial.jpg and File:You Walk Alone.jpg. Hi ! I am writing as a dedicated subscriber and supporter of WestNet Wireless to request the restoration of the company's Wikipedia page. The recent deletion of this page came at a crucial time when WestNet is engaging in significant negotiations with larger corporations and government entities. The timing of this deletion is quite suspicious, given the company's substantial contributions to the telecommunications industry. WestNet Wireless is of immense significance, particularly known for its collaboration with WiLAN, the inventors of Wi-Fi. This partnership was essential in deploying the first Wi-Fi networks, an achievement that is well-documented and rooted in the innovations of Hedy Lamarr. WestNet's contributions span various sectors, including telecommunications, healthcare, aerospace, and logistics, making it a vital entity in the technological landscape. As a cooperative community, we highly value WestNet's efforts, especially in areas like Bridgeland, where their impact has been profound. WestNet has been instrumental in deploying Wi-Fi networks and supporting community initiatives, showcasing their commitment to technological advancement and community development. Deleting the WestNet Wireless page undermines the recognition of these significant achievements and contributions. Therefore, we kindly request that the page be restored to reflect the true historical and technological importance of WestNet Wireless. Thank you for considering this request. We are eager to contribute further to the Wikipedia community and ensure that notable entities like WestNet Wireless are rightfully represented.
