The page lock
Why did you lock the largest prehistoric animals page after allowing dinosaursking's edit to remain? You should've at least undone his edit before locking it. His writing is poor and he kept too many spaces as well. Since he was warring even after warnings given by 3 others, he should be banned instead. The problem isn't with the page but that stubborn person who has no idea how Wikipedia works. Please take it into consideration Ishan87 (talk) 15:56, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Ishan87: Because of WP:STATUSQUO. DinosaurKing's edit appears to be the one that was in the stable version prior to the edit war (compare 8 May 2021 to 1 December 2021). I responded to the edit war, not the quality of DinosaurKind's edits. As there was no WP:3RR violation, I decided that full protection for a content dispute was more prudent. Moreover, the point of edit warring appeared to be about the genus Otodus, which is in the version currently published. If you think there is a behavioral problem beyond just these reverts, please go to WP:ANI. EvergreenFir (talk) 17:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Okay, I've explained my case in the talkpage of the Largest Prehistoric Animals page. Plz check Ishan87 (talk) 15:24, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
WP:BDP
Thanks for your comments on Wikipedia talk:Biographies of living persons#Is WP:BLP applicable to recently dead people? Not clear. I was not sure where to post. But I wanted to highlight the problem so I chose that page. I noted your suggestion. Now since this thread is ongoing, what do you suggest? Make the original post again at WP:VPP? Venkat TL (talk) 06:42, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- You were correct to bring this issue to BLPN. I suggest waiting and getting more feedback on BLPN first. If folks seem to agree, then VPP would be the next step to start making an official change to BDP. EvergreenFir (talk) 06:46, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. Good idea. If the discussion at WT:BLP leads to update in the language of BDP, my thread linked above, would have served its purpose. If not, then I will seek wider feedback at VPP. --Venkat TL (talk) 07:04, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
Could use some help
I've got myself in a pickle that none of us have noticed and that we're all defending.
Turns out someone changed the dates on List of VeggieTales videos, and I and other users watching the page have been defending a wrong version all along... the page got so fucked up from the amount of IPs editing. I think we need a big rollback, and I've already went to RFPP and requested the page be semi'd for a good long time. Could use some help here. wizzito | say hello! 20:13, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Articles for recreation Deri Lorus
Hi EvergreenFir I request you to recreate the article on Deri Lorus. It is deleted, under criteria G4. Deri Lorus is notable persons is past days, but now he is leading composer in Tamil film industry in India. Some rude administrators blocking other persons who are not even connected to the sockpuppetry. To be noted: I'm not connected to Deri Lorus but I live in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is notable in our State and in India. I strongly believe that he completely notable to WP:NMUSICIAN
You can see article about Deri Lorus in Spanish and French Wikipedia
You can know about Deri Lorus in Internet
If he is not notable, then how it is possible to live article in Spanish and French Wikipedia , even Deri Lorus verified on Facebook [1] you can check on that link. Dear admin, you already knew that Facebook or other social network doesn't verify non notable people. You can see more news and blogs about him, there are more than 35 sources on the internet. I am very strong in my view that Deri Lorus is notable to create article about him. I hope you will understand and Thanks in Advance!
Reverted your revert
You appear to have reverted https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spanish_flu&diff=1061358948&oldid=1061358561 because "it's sourced to an academic publication", however perhaps you didn't actually read the "academic publication" because it actually states the opposite of the assertion. The Spanish Flu is still deadlier. The assertion was:
The Spanish flu was the deadliest respiratory virus pandemic until the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19.
From the text of the cited article:
The Spanish influenza resulted in acute illness in 25%–30% of the world population, with over 50 million deaths, whereas COVID-19 has infected nearly 55 million to date, with 1.3 million deaths.
Here's a citation for 50 million being greater than 1.3 million: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=50+million+%3E+1.3+million --OctoberColdwater (talk) 19:00, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Plot summaries in episode lists
When adding plot summaries in episode lists of TV shows, do the summaries need to be at least 100 words, or this is only optional and we can just briefly describe the main part of the plot? Rattatast (talk) 01:45, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Rattatast: optional. It's the target size but not a minimum. We often have the opposite problem: overly detailed episode summaries. EvergreenFir (talk) 06:40, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. The reason why I'm asking this is because when it comes to summaries that are under 100 words, some users would judge them as "copyvio" or "paraphrased" without evidence. What's your take? Rattatast (talk) 07:16, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Agnostic Atheism
I notified Administrators at Wikipedia regarding this piece. Here is what I stated copied and pasted.
"I have attempted with current cited sources to correct errors on this page.
Users have repeatedly reverted back to the original which is outdated and based on references as far back as 1894. I have used current references from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on a section written by Professor Paul Draper of Perdue University whose Curriculum Vitae is beyond reproach. https://cla.purdue.edu/directory/profiles/paul-draper.html
If you look back even further, I used other current cited source material to show that the term "Agnostic Atheism," is no where to be found in any current scholarly work, encyclopedia, used at the University level, and is a contradiction.
This is the type of thing that caused me to stop editing Wikipedia. Users can just change my work without notice, and without the research, knowledge and hard work I put in.
I am a published research professional. My work can be found at researchgate.net and at the Center For Pluralism in Washington, D.C. among other places.
So why should I waste my time here? Schools don't accept Wikipedia as a valid cited source, Wikipedia is not used in any scholarly circle, or for published research." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madjess (talk • contribs) 16:50, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Edit war on Tweety page.
Even though the Tweety article is currenty protected, I am still in an argument with IP editors over Jeff Bergman still voicing Daffy Duck and Tweety even though he hasn’t reportedly voiced either of them since 2018. They even insulted me on the Talk:Tweety page over it. Please help when you have time. Brian K. Tyler (talk) 22:19, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
I think you need to look at what 166.182.255.111 wrote here and say what you think.
“I've been trying to ask Brian to ask to put present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck but then he kept repeated the same thing on with question and answer over and over I ask him couple of times that Jeff Bergman is still voicing Tweety and Daffy Duck alternating with Bob Bergen and Eric Bauza for productions and projects, I've told Brian it was not before or after or since Looney Tunes Cartoons and Space Jam a New legacy premired, and I also told Brian it was not after the year 2018 or since 2018 or The Warner Bros. WORLD Abu Dhabi of 2018, all I've been saying that Jeff Bergman Is still voicing Tweety and Daffy Duck for productions and projects. I've been telling Brian that I think should stick with recent three main current voice actors Jeff Bergman Bob Bergen and Eric Bauza for Tweety in productions and projects So that alternating between three voice actors should be enough. I've also telling Brian that I think we should stick with recent Two Main current voice actors Jeff Bergman and Eric Bauza for Daffy Duck for productions and projects. I've asked Brian to bring back the present for Daffy Duck and Tweety, but then he doesn't respond my answer to bring to present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck, Jeff Bergman is still voicing Tweety and Daffy Duck for recent productions and projects, EvergreenFir You need to tell Brian to put present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck if he ignored to take my question or answer he should be blocked.”
I've actually been trying to follow the rules, and I have been saying they need to provide reliable sources to confirm their claims, but these IP editors won't listen to me. And that's asked for the help on an administrator, and you were the one who protected the Daffy Duck article for similar reasons. Brian K. Tyler (talk) 01:41, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Tweety talk page
Now look at what an IP editor writes on Talk:Tweety:
"That's three times Brian kept being a error and a lair and you have repeated the same question again and again and you have not ask and respond to bring my present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck, Jeff Bergman is still voicing Tweety and Daffy Duck alternating with Bob Bergen and Eric Bauza for recent productions and projects So that alternating between three voice actors for Tweety should be enough. And even though alternating between the two voice actors for Daffy Duck should be enough. EvergreenFir I want you to blocked Brian K. Tyler for not responding my question or answer about bringing back present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck. EvergreenFir I want you to bring the present back for Tweety and Daffy Duck I hope you can fix this."

Apology
Thank you for pointing out my vandalism of the Critical Race Theory article. After a careful review of my actions and learning more about Wikipedia I have come to appreciate the work of the many editors who as it seems have a thankless job, yet contribute so much good quality information to the English speaking pubic. I am unsure how I can make up for my actions seeing as they have already been reverted. I sincerely regret my actions. I realize that if I have an issue with the presentation of information in an article I can sandbox a change and seek guidance whether my proposed changes adhere to the standards of Wikipedia. I intend to do that. I do not intend to take the content of articles into my own hands anymore it is unwise, unwelcome and rude. Thank you for this valuable lesson and the leveling of my pride. If you do not mind my asking how long do discretionary sanctions last? There are many articles that mention the subject but I have not seen a clear answer. It is one year or until I appeal? I am also unsure of the consequence am I no longer permitted to edit articles in the sanctioned categories or are my edits automatically sent for more scrutiny? @EvergreenFir: Godspeed18 (talk) 20:04, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Godspeed18: I appreciate you reaching out and the apology. For clarification, you are not topic banned or under any other discretionary sanctions. The two I posted on your talk page are notices required by WP:AWARE. Admins cannot apply discretionary sanctions without the editor first being aware of them. So you are free to edit any pages you like. I will admit you are likely to be under a bit more scrutiny because of your edits on Critical race theory and the short block for edit warring. Strauss-Howe theory
Why did you semi-protect Strauss–Howe generational theory after my AIV report? Semi-protecting does nothing to eliminate the problem which is Sleyece vandalizing the generation ranges. I've been changing them back to the correct ones according to Strauss & Howe's theory - which an article that uses the Strauss & Howe name ought to be citing. He just reverts again to his incorrect, unsourced, unexplained ranges without discussion. He's the person who's been making problematic edits, not me, and I don't appreciate it looking as though I'm the vandal for reverting his edits so that the article is once again correct. I know generations are a subjective and rather touchy subject and people might not always agree about who's part of what generation - but the pages about individual generations already list all the major definitions, and the one about S&H theory should by all means be devoted to their ranges and theories. I'm a little peeved right now, that's all. 74.135.198.144 (talk) 02:39, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- I owe you an apology. What I saw was a brand new account and multiple IPs edit warring against a longtime editor on a page that appeared to be "stable" for months. I was wrong. I looked into the page edit history and found Sleyece was the one who changed the dates a few months back. I tried to (and did) WP:Verify your assertions with an archived copy of Howe's book. I've reverted the page to the correct dates and warned Sleyece for his behavior. Again, sorry and thank you for taking the time to write to me to fix this. EvergreenFir (talk) 06:26, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for rectifying the situation. Your apology is accepted, no hard feelings. Mistakes happen. Thank you and have a great day! 74.135.198.144 (talk) 03:30, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

I noticed you've rev-del'd my edit where I added the official synopsis of an upcoming episode. While I understand your intention, I would like to point out that the official synopses are always added as placeholders before the episodes air, when other editors can write original ones. See this for example. Some IP tried to rewrite it (see at the bottom) but it was changed back by the page's most prolific editor, so I believed that writing the unchanged official synopsis was okay. I also noticed you deleted 4 kb worth of bulletpoints as "trivia", but, why did you delete the English premiere dates but not most of the French ones? Why did you delete the French premiere date of "Wishmaker" but not that of "Hack-San"? I also noticed that you deleted production details like the original script length of an episode or the troubled production of another. But aren't they needed so the page wouldn't consist almost entirely of plot summaries? No offense, just wondering. Miracusaurs (talk) 07:10, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Miracusaurs: hello! I'll keep this short as it's late here. Official synopses should never be copy-pasted per WP:COPYVIO. I know it occurs often but it wouldn't. I just happened to stumble on your edit and did what admins are supposed to do (revert, revdel per WP:REVDEL#1, and warn). Absolutely nothing personal against you.
- As for the trivia removal, articles/lists like that one often get cluttered by trivia by fans. That stuff is best kept on fandom.com. ShortSummary should be just that: a short summary. I kept the info about airdates of English or French airings if they predated the main ones as that's something we typically would make note of. Ideally, a column for them should be better, or adding them as a second row in the airdate cells. Stuff like tweets from Tom about titles or other stuff prior to broadcast really isn't notable. If we had pages for the individual episodes then we could mention it there.
- Might be easiest to think of these lists as "what should grandma know if she wanted to read about that episode I mentioned". Guest stars and airdates make sense to include. Trivia on names or changes to length don't. EvergreenFir (talk) 07:27, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- I see, thanks! Miracusaurs (talk) 07:37, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

A big ol' sigh
You asked, "Why the statement "'he'... misgenders you from your perspective"? Fair enough. In answer...
First of all, I should have formatted and punctuated it as, "the 'he' pronoun ... misgenders you, from your perspective". Secondly, I concede that the statement is incomprehensible out of context. In short, I was addressing the conceptual distinction between misgender [i.e., "Refer to (someone, especially a transgender person) using a word, especially a pronoun or form of address, that does not correctly reflect the gender with which they identify" per Oxford] and genderize [i.e., "To make gender-based distinctions within or among" per American Heritage].
To rephrase the statement, "You, Newimpartial, accused me misgendering you with a binary pronoun. Then you later self-identified as nonbinary. So, the pronoun, 'he' might seem to misgender you from the perspective of a nonbinary person who's not familiar with the term, 'genderize,' but - from my perspective - I wrongly genderized the discussion by making a binary gender reference in the first place."
In the larger scheme of things, I don't really care about a person's gender, but I attempt to use a form of address that satisfies a person's gender identity to whatever practicable extent. In this case, I had simply confused Newimpartial with CycoMa (or perhaps Crossroads or someone else), who had previously corrected an instance of "she" to a preference for "he."
Contrary to an impression that I was trying to insist on a right or wrong about anything relating to anyone's gender. Every time I noted - from age old history to the present time - that linguists have chronicled how a singular "they" creates grammatical number ambiguity, Newimpartial shifted one ideological target after another to a separate ax-grinding station. Frayed sensitivity, I guess, caused the allegation that I refuse to use the pronoun, "they," when co-referencing a nonbinary person. That's not what I'd said. Instead, I'd said I habitually shun a singular "they" for a singular referent, but if someone argues a preference for "they" to stand for an individual's gender plurality, that bit of semantic consistency hold up to linguistic rigors.
That's more than I intended to say. I'm a writer, so whenever you see a long post from me, it usually doesn't take long for me to churn it out. It mostly means I'm not tending to my vocational responsibilities. I suppose I should make time to determine how many of us "would use singular they pronouns as a dogwhistle" here in Wisconsin. Sheesh. Cheers. --Kent Dominic·(talk) 04:16, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
- Juat to clarify, I never suggested that you refuse to use the singular "they" for all kinds of nonbinary people. Rather, I am one particular kind of nonbinary person, I asked you to use the singular they, and your response was to come up with one rationale after another why you wouldn't do so when asked.
- As far as your suggestion that I
shifted one ideological target after another
- I don't believe I did any such thing, and I also find that your statement here, without evidence, falls under WP:ASPERSION-casting. Please don't do that. Newimpartial (talk) 04:27, 22 January 2022 (UTC)- @Newimpartial: I'd rather not risk hijacking EvergreenFir's talk page. I am complaining about a vandalizing Wikipedia editor
Hello Professor! I am complaining about a malicious vandal who is vagabonding around as a Wikipedia editor under the username ElderZamzam and is doing, among othe things, the following in particular: In the Wiki articles of Iranians or persons of iranian origin, he changes the name of their country of birth (Iran) from "Iran" to "Imperial State of Iran" or "Imperial State of Persia". There is no such state on the whole earth, however. Whoever dares to undo in his Wiki page the wrong and illegal intervention of the vandal ElderZamzam is himself accused of vandalism and his page is blocked. This has happened to me recently myself. YOU have blocked the bio-ergraphic article about me. Did dou investigate who was really the vandal beforehand according to the Wikipedia definition of vandalism? Was ist ElderZamzam or me? So, I am complaining here about the vandal ElderZamzam and you. Kazem Sadegh-Zadeh — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:D9:3F12:735C:D191:408A:993D:DDF0 (talk) 14:18, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- We often use the name of nations at the time of birth of the individual (e.g., those born in Prussia), so ElderZamzam's edits didn't seem unusual. I protected the page to stop the edit warring occurring. Neither ElderZamzam's or your actions were vandalism per se and certainly not illegal. In the future, should such situations occur, the best course of action would be to go to WP:ANI and raise the issue so that other admins and community members can review the issue. WP:LTA/HTF redux
Seems like they're using the mobile range 2600:1008:B000:0:0:0:0:0/39 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · block user · block log) for their Happy Tree Friends vandalism nowadays. Malaysian IPs
Follow-up to User talk:EvergreenFir/Archive 20#The Casagrandes...
Anything that can be done with this issue? Or is page protection really all that can be done considering how frequent they are/IPs keep changing? Latest Malaysian IPs to come around and mess around with everything in an article include 115.135.25.243, 60.48.168.3, and 115.135.27.71. Didn't mention it in the past discussion, but looks like 124.13.65.65 and 115.135.27.137 are two other previous IPs.
I'm not even sure what is quite possible at this point:
- Any sort of range block(s) would likely be blocking way too many other IPs (115.135.0.0/18, 115.133.192.0/18, 60.48.160.0/19, 60.48.64.0/18, likely others as well)
- Not sure how page protection would go about- would be a lot of articles that need protecting. Just based off of the most recent 3 IPs I listed above, that would include: Ready Jet Go!, List of Ready Jet Go! episodes, Middlemost Post, List of Butterbean's Café episodes, List of Zack & Quack episodes, Santiago of the Seas, Sunny Day (TV series), Abby Hatcher, List of Abby Hatcher episodes, It's Pony, and Ollie's Pack. Pretty sure there would be plenty more articles, but that's all just based off 3 of the most recent IPs.
- I would think given all of this, just revert/move on would be the best solution, but they'll just keep coming back to the same targeted articles and doing the same disruptive edits.
Would it possibly be worthwhile to open up a discussion regarding this at WP:ANI and see what others have to say/think would be best to mitigate the issue? Thanks again. Magitroopa (talk) 17:04, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

- Evergreen. I apologise there. But please note I only asked if this person was someone else based on TWO similarities and two further peculiarities. There was no direct insinuation. In the meantime, I am reading into something else in this whole affair. If the editor says he is not so-and-so then I'll leave it at that. If a checkuser personally wishes to know what these concerns are then I will share them but I won't take it any further of my own volition. --Edin balgarin (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

- @Edin balgarin: The use of singular they is appropriate on Wikipedia when another editor's gender is unknown (or not immediately obvious on a user page and unspecified by your own settings: they (see syntax)). There is no reason to be rude about the courtesy of not assuming your gender identity. If it is something I'd like to avoid in the future, might I recommend adding {{User Male}} or one of these userboxes: Wikipedia:Userboxes/Life/Gender. EvergreenFir (talk) 22:39, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- My apologies Edin balgarin, I did not know that was your preference. I will use "he/him/his" from now on. I wasn't going to make a big deal of it but you keep referring to me as "he" and if we're making a point about it my wikipedia profile is *only* to be referred to using the singular they and variations. My gender is undisclosed and immaterial to any possible discussion. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 22:44, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- That's all right. Just to avoid any problems, which singular pronoun do you wish me to use if I talk to a third person? Note that a longstanding tradition not only of English but all languages (I speak Bulgarian, Russian and a fair amount of Dutch) is to use "he/him/his" when not knowing a sex and it is generally accepted that this extends from specifically male to anything while it is unknown. So there are no aspersions I assure you. Let me know what you would prefer. That is not an enquiry as to the identity of the editor. --Edin balgarin (talk) 22:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- The general conception is they/them/theirs. Now that we've cleared that up isn't there something you've been meaning to do? Maybe in connection with a certain series of personal attacks? Maybe beginning with an A and ending with "ology" Horse Eye's Back (talk) 22:57, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- I will transfer this to my own talk so we don't hold such discussion on a third person's page. --Edin balgarin (talk) 11:22, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Horse Eye's Back - We haven't cleared anything up. "They/them/theirs" is most definitely not some "general concepion". It is a new-fangled brain fart. When they taught me English in Bulgaria, they said "they" is for plural, and we were not to even generalise when the sex wasn't known. Instead we continued the longstanding convention of "he" until it is known otherwise. I previously referred to you as "he", and if you are a biological female then I wholeheartedly apologise for having ascribed the wrong sex. If you indeed came into this world with a Y chromosome then there is nothing to apologise for simply because you choose to identify as something else. I have seen the Wikipedia practice of referring to some individuals as "they" and I am likely not to touch those articles, because I stand by the adage that "if it's born with a dick, then it ain't no chick". Yes people like me are considered dinosaurs, and I know that here in the west where I live, it demonstrates a major chasm between older and younger generations. In Bulgaria where I am from, it has not regressed to that phoniness. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that you are one of these. You are simply one person who is well within your right on this otherwise anonymous project to conceal every aspect of your life story - and what's more, I support and protect that right. I am also a realist and accept that some people come into this world, are believed at birth to be one thing and later on discover that internally, they have some properties of the other sex. I refer to intersex which I think applies to about 0.5% (1 in 200) of people who come into this world. But not even they get to use this discrepancy to go from "he" to "she", let alone "they" depending how they feel at the time of day. It's a scientific phenomenon, and it presents language problems because tongues developed over millennia to see male and female without thinking that some configurations are a mash-up of the two despite the individual being perfectly healthy in every way. "They" however is reserved for where we know there is more than one. The word will never be ambiguous, i.e. "when you say 'they', do you mean there was more than one person, or were you referring to an individual that denies the biological sex and denies identifying as the opposite sex"? That's never going to happen. I take care to write this language in accordance with the prescriptive tradition, and the style guides I use (such as Simon Heffer whom you won't like) don't even recommend saying "he or she". I see no problem with saying, "he or she was driving too fast" when a car shoots passed at a dangerous speed, but the guidance is that until we know different, "he" extends meaning. Saying "they were driving too fast" because I couldn't see if it were a man or a woman is plain asinine. I'm sorry Horse Eye's Back. It is one or the other. --Edin balgarin (talk) 11:22, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

User:Markegwu
Hi EvergreenFir. Would you mind trying to explain to Markegwu that their approach at Dave Umahi isn’t productive. They’ve already gone over 3RR and may have been trying to make the same changes using IPs before today. I came across them via a Teahouse question and have been trying to help them avoid problems, but so far I seem to have had zero luck. I’m asking you because you’re one of the last admins to edit at AN3 today. Perhaps they will listen to an administrator. I’m on my cell right now; so, if an AN3 discussion is needed than I do that later, but my hope would be to avoid that and simply get this editor to continue discussing things on the article’s talk page. — Marchjuly (talk) 06:52, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- Update: Another editor has reverted back to the last stable version (though the edit summary that was left claims they were reverting vandalism, which I don't believe it was per WP:NOTVAND). Anyway, perhaps that will be the end of the edit warring and nothing more needs to be done than to let those involved resolve things on the article's talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:27, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Sociology criticism
Hey there!
I was looking through the talk page of Sociology as I wanted to mention that a criticism section was missing. I saw this point had already been raised by another user. You cited false balance, i.e. WP:NPOV in apparent rejection of this users suggestion. I don’t quite understand your point, NPOV is a broader guideline and does not outright recommend the exclusion of criticism sections when they are due, especially in the case of social sciences. Criticism of the social sciences is as old as the discipline themselves. As an Economist I support the inclusion of a criticism section on the Economics page. I’ve read many papers that have directly critiqued sociology’s status as a social science and also the methods it employs to reach its ends. Psychology too has a section discussing the methodological limitations within the discipline and the ongoing replication crisis is faces. This is something common in economics as well, from unverifiable or outright false assumption to the disciplines obsession with mathematical modelling, there are many valid criticisms. The same is true in sociology, I have huge respect for the discipline and with this in mind I am intending to create a new section that outlines some of most notable critiques of Sociology. If you believe a criticism section should not be included then by association the criticism section of Economics also has reason to be excluded. At least that’s how I see things, but I’m always open to differing opinions.
I’d be grateful to hear your views on my comments and your thoughts on including a criticisms section in the article.

Awan tribe
Hi, I have been blocked on awan tribe by you, please reconsider it. I mentioned that our local Pakistani awan tribe is origion of arab. Department of Genetics of Hazara University, Pakistan conducted a dental morphology and DNA analysis of major tribes in Northern Pakistan which recorded that haplogroup T1 (originated in Israel) is only found in Awans, Could it doesn't mean that awan tribe is belong to arab? The report does say that only Awans in the region have Haplogroup T1 (originated in Israel). So, it automatically means that Awans are of Arab origin. Good work
Your decisiveness on that AN thread definitely saved everyone from a pile of wasted time, and likely saved BB from a block. If I wasn't already involved in the discussion I'd close it now, so you could have the most efficient admin action and AN thread resolution of the year. Your process question
Hi - just responding to your question at AN - my understanding is that admins can't impose ibans, they need to be community-endorsed. Process allows us to use our discretion to pblock an account from someone else's talk page to prevent disruption, or indeed to fully block them and then ask them to accept an iban as part of the unblock conditions, but technically we don't have the authority to impose an iban unless we are enacting the consensus of the community, or implementing arbcom sanctions. Having said all that, I don't think anyone is going to question your action there, given that the subject of the ban was literally asking you to enact it - perhaps that's consensus enough. Request RevDel
Hello! I do not know if this should be revdel or not, but an IP user is adding real address (could be true, could be not) to a BLP article. I have removed the material as it is vandalism and unsourced, but I think it should be rev del as real address is private information and should not be here. What do you think? The edit is here. Thank you! SunDawntalk 16:00, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello EvergreenFir,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 810 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 846 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Non-Free images
Hi Evergreen, I would like to ask you a question on non-free images, I have noticed the images I uploaded are gone, I just want to ask what or how did I upload these images in the wrong way? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Owentherosehead2008 (talk • contribs) 01:59, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Owentherosehead2008 the issue was the images were too large resolution so a fair use claim (WP:IMAGERES). Someone at WP:TEAHOUSE probably can explain in more detail. EvergreenFir (talk) 04:08, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi, Evergreen. Maybe just indef Lordbuckinghambadger as a regular admin action? Arbitration enforcement blocks aren't supposed to be longer than a year. Stupid rule, yes. Bishonen | tålk 07:01, 19 June 2022 (UTC).
- @Bishonen i didn't know that! Moot point now but I'll adjust moving forward. Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) 17:26, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
- Lots of people don't know that. It can be got round by doing an AE block for one year followed by an indef as a regular admin action — I see that in the log sometimes. But doing it makes me feel pretty silly. Bishonen | tålk 18:04, 19 June 2022 (UTC).

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello EvergreenFir,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13820 articles, as of 18:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
