The Saga.

There is a maintenance category called, Category:Song articles with both composer and songwriter with the specific reason so incorrect entries that have the terms songwriter and composer used in the same article can be corrected. I have managed to correct 50 in the past 2 days with only this complaint. So that you understand the problem I note different functions.

  • Songwriter. Person who write music and lyrics.
  • Composer. Person who write music only.
  • Lyricist. Person who write words only.

As you can see having songwriter and composer in the same article cannot be right. Some may have written both words and music, in which case, those names should appear under both lyricist and composer and the term songwriter not used. If you are unsure who contributed what then the generic 'songwriter' is best used. I shall leave the problem to you to sort out, but, if, on my next sweep of this category find incorrect statements I will correct as best I can.

I also note you have made these same mistakes on other articles. Please can you correct those too, please. Thankyou.

BTW, the infobox is a summary of the article, yet I note the text is silent as to who did what (an observation, not a complaint as there are many other articles doing this). Richhoncho (talk) 11:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Hmm Honcho this is interesting, thanks for the information mate. So make me understand this part, let's say you and I we make a song where we both write the music + words/lytics = songwriter, right? And our friend writes only the lyrics. since we are the songwriters, where does that leave our friend?
I hope this is understandable as I'm trying not to make this "mistake" again. I have stumbled across something similar when I was creating "10 Fingers" as Yanga Ntshakaza only wrote the lyrics and it is cited on one of the sources and I use streaming platforms (specifically Apple Music) as my source for this kind of things. dxneo (talk) 11:32, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
In scenario you suggest:
composer: Honcho, Dxneo
lyrics: Honcho, Dxneo, friend.
Alternatively, you could put all 3 names under songwriter, which would not be as accurate as possible, but not incorrect. --Richhoncho (talk) 11:55, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, it means a lot, I'll try to fix my mistakes. dxneo (talk) 12:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Manaka Matsukubo

On 24 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Manaka Matsukubo, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Manaka Matsukubo. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Manaka Matsukubo), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. No need to say self-titled albums are eponymous

Hello Dxneo. Regarding Tyla (album), I don't know if you know, but the editor Sundayclose (and perhaps some others) have systematically removed references to self-titled albums being "eponymous" from basically all self-titled albums' articles on Wikipedia as this is obvious to anyone who can read. There is no need to point it out, let alone have a debate with an editor over whether or not to link eponymous. Same goes for prose on "Water" and wherever else references to self-titled albums are made. We can tell it's self-titled. Also, none of the sources appear to talk about the album's genres as a whole (the genres of "Water" are not necessarily those of the other 12 tracks, excluding the remix) and I don't know why Tyla would have revealed the track list (obscured) but still be recording its tracks into next year. There's no source for that either, so I have removed both. The track list's five revealed tracks are up on Apple Music already so I have added those (but we should avoid linking to Apple Music per WP:AFFILIATE). If you reply, please do so here. Thanks. Ss112 16:48, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the information mate, you are appreciated. I've seen a lot of "eponymous" on the 80s/90s R&B albums a while back so I thought that's the way of doing it. dxneo (talk) 17:15, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Ss112, so what about the "Water (Remix)", shouldn't it added on the opening statement along with the other lead singles? dxneo (talk) 17:17, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
We generally don't include remixes as separate singles. There are exceptions (e.g. when a song was not released as a single initially but its remix was), but in most cases, remixes are just reissues of singles to help prolong or enhance their success and, at least for pop artists, are a common part of a single's promotional campaign. It's clear "Water" was issued first and primarily as a solo song, and I think even now, the original is outdoing the Travis Scott remix in most markets. Ss112 04:19, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

December 2023

Hello. Your recent edits on afro house seemed controversial or opinion-based. Hence, I have reverted them. Please see, [1] in reference as into why the hatnote is important for the reader. Furthermore, as per stipulated many afro house songs actually display with the tags "afrobeat/s","Nigerian street music", "pop" and many other genres, however the predominant tags seems to be the former on Google search results for instance [2]. Regarding the other information added in your template such as "not interesting for reader" and cite kill etc. , please see [3]. Qaqaamba (talk) 05:14, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

I have taken your cite kill stipulation into consideration and removed a few re-used references to the best of my ability without leaving "unreferenced paragraphs" or creating "unsourced material" as well as one redlink. Furthermore, if you're willing to assist to replace the redlinks with greenlinks.that would be great. Qaqaamba (talk) 05:58, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Tyla (South African singer) audio samples indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Dxneo,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

April 2024

Hello. I just wanted to know if there is any reason for these two edits [4], [5]. If there isn't a reason, this is a form of WP:TWINKLEABUSE. Please let me know, regards. Medxvo (talk) 21:13, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

There is a reason why I cited two sources on those nominations, one does not have full award list and the other does, they contain different information. I did not mean to step on your toes and I was about to inform you on your talk but I got held up. And please do not use rowspan on references as it is not adviced, just like how you thought the sources contain the same information, it is also not adviced not to remove cited content (if it is not WF:REFBOMBED. My apologies, I hope you understand. dxneo (talk) 21:32, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
I checked them before editing and both of them had the same information for the four categories, but I could be wrong. Can you please tell me the differences because as far as I remember Independent Online had the (Best R&B) category on the article as well? Also the rowspan information is new to me as the good articles for songs use the rowspan for their accolades section. Why is it not advised? Thanks for replying. I'm just trying to help. Medxvo (talk) 22:04, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
You got a point though, you may proceed and revert my edit(s). Again, my apologies, Thank you happy editing. dxneo (talk) 22:13, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much for replying and collaborating, people like you make Wikipedia a better place! Have a good day. Medxvo (talk) 22:22, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, Dxneo. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Primefac (talk) 07:36, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

The DYK checks were insufficient; that hook should never have made it onto the main page. Thanks for your good work; please keep it up. And don't be discouraged from nominating at DYK. Something like this does not happen very often. You'll have a much better experience next time! Feel free to ping me or Amakuru when you nominate again and feel that things might potentially be controversial. It's easy to sort things out before a hook goes to the main page. A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:WikiProject The Weeknd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject The Weeknd. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. I don't see the proposal for this project. Did you go through Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals? It's best to find enough editors interested in participating in the project first before creating it. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:55, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Wow Star, I didn't know there were steps to be followed before creating this, I literally spent days writing this in my notepad, formulating it and trying to figure out how it's subpages, templates and categories work. Since this is a speedy I guess there's nothing I can do but I am willing to give my all into making this work. Question, if it's gets deleted, will it's all associated templates go too? And when I finally get approval for recreation, will all the lost data be restored? dxneo (talk) 02:19, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
They will get deleted but they should be recoverable as well should the project get the go-ahead. You may want to contact User:AskeeaeWiki, who was the previous person who attempted to start the project on their own, to help. Projects only work if there are groups of people willing to maintain it. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 03:06, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars If it stays, or if User:Dxneo goes ahead and gives it the proper go-through process, then I'm all in for helping maintain it.

I'll try my best. I looked at the deletion discussion and some seem positive towards just going to proposing it while some are harsh and believe it should never exist, I'll help.
Thank you. dxneo (talk) 07:12, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
By the way, you do not need a WikiProject to improve the content of the topics you are interested in. This is why solo projects aren't particularly useful. Just work on those articles. By the way, I do see that the project was temporarily saved, but please do not create any more and be sure to read up on new aspects of Wikipedia if you haven't devled in them before (i.e., never just copy what other people did). Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:08, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Star, honestly I don't recall saying I created the WikiProject to improve articles, I was just expanding and trying new things that's all. Thank you so so much for your help, you are appreciated. And what do you mean by "never just copy what other people did"? dxneo (talk) 17:56, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Improving articles in a collaborative manner on a common area of interest is the goal of WikiProjects (in this case, articles related to The Weeknd). Since you said you did a lot of research to create this WikiProject, yet never looked up any guidelines on how to do it, I assumed you must have taken your cues for other existing WikiProjects. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:08, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Star, yes I did look up how they are structured and again yes, I studied how multiple WikiProjects are written. WikiProjects such as Sia, Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish and Rihanna just to mention a few, I did so to see what they all had in common. Some things around here are really difficult, as of now I'm still learning how to construct the assessment table/recognized articles but I figured it's best I tag every the Weeknd related article before I proceed. If you have any pointers on how to make this less difficult, please do tell. dxneo (talk) 18:39, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Theta

I need you to withdraw your GA review of the Theta (album) article. You do not have any experience reviewing GA articles and aren't following the criteria. Someone else that has experience will review the article. I do not appreciate you accusing me of copyright violations. I have been editing Wikipedia for more than a decade now and have brought 8 articles to GA. I know exactly how to write good articles. I don't need you to make false accusations against me.

 Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 06:48, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Hello Versace1608, to withdraw the review I will have to fail the nomination. Is that okay with you? Honestly, I think the article is neat and I did not accuse you of anything, I said I like the way you close paraphrase. Yes, this is my first review but everyone has to start somewhere and if it helps I also brought few articles to GA status. You can simply address the GA requests then I'll ask for second opinion before closing the nomination. dxneo (talk) 06:56, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Fail the nomination. I personally do not want to interact with you. I still haven't forgotten your comments about me in those ANI threads. If your goal is to become a GA reviewer, there are tons of other articles that you can go and review. The Theta article doesn't need to be your first.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 07:07, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
First, you didn't like the way I was accusing you of copyright and now "personally" you don't want to interact with me? Sir, I forgot about that ANI, it's all in the past. Can we please move on and maintain a healthy relationship Facepalm Facepalm . Nevertheless, your wish is my command, if you still wish to withdraw the nom, I will happily close it. dxneo (talk) 07:20, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Moving forward, please do not make any attempt at reviewing the other two articles I nominated for GA. Like I said, there are tons of other articles you can spend time reviewing. Let's just keep our distance here and the less interaction, the better.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 07:23, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, at least I tried. By the way, I am allowed to pick articles at random at WP:GAC. dxneo (talk) 07:29, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
You are but I am personally pleading with you to refrain from reviewing the articles that I create(d). I personally don't believe you "randomly" chose to review the Theta (album) article.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 07:33, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
I saw it on WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors few weeks back and I thought it was great, saw it again at GAC with 7 sources and I saw an opportunity to start small. I "personally" have nothing against you. dxneo (talk) 07:40, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Tyla (album)

Hello! Your submission of Tyla (album) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there at your earliest convenience. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!  โ€” Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:42, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

I am struggling to understand why you made this clearly erroneous edit. Were you just being careless? BD2412 T 00:04, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

BD2412, my apologies. I don't even remember doing that as I don't even know how to use DisamAssist. Again, my apologies. โ€” dxneo (talk) 00:08, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Understood. I'm sure such a thing will not happen again. Cheers! BD2412 T 00:10, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Tyla (album)

Hello Baffle gab1978, thank you for taking this review. Just thought I should let you know that this article is currently going through a Peer review, please check it out if you haven't. dxneo (talk) 00:38, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, I will have a look at the PR page before I begin editing there. By the way, can you please fix your talk page design so the pattern at the top doesn't obscure the page text and the MediaWiki interface? Making a talk page difficult to read or edit can be considered disruptive; please see here. Thank you. :) Cheers, Baffleโ˜ฟgab 00:50, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I will remove the code. dxneo (talk) 00:56, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
It's currently 3:35am in South Africa so I wanna sleep, but so far I think you're doing an amazing job. Oh Baffle gab1978, the wording the song and the album are very discouraged and must be replaced with either Tyla or It, I honestly don't know why I haven't fixed that. Just thought I should let you know instead of doing it myself, to avoid edit conflicts. dxneo (talk) 01:35, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for removing the code, it is appreciated. :) Regarding "the album" and "the song", I understand these terms can be repetitive but pronouns like "it" can be ambiguous and unclear so I try to avoid them wherever possible. We need to be as clear and concise as possible but I don't think we need to slavishly obey GA / PR reviewers. Sleep well; I'm signing off now too. :) Cheers, Baffleโ˜ฟgab 03:39, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
I think to pass PR we have address the issues per reviewers request. Am I wrong? dxneo (talk) 12:06, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
If the reviewer points out obvious problems, like confusing words or over-long sentences, those problems do need to be fixed. But as long as the article complies with the GA criteria, the reviewer ought to accept what they're given and not dictate a preferred writing style. The FA criteria are far stricter, as you'll find if you nominate any articles there. Cheers, Baffleโ˜ฟgab 23:57, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
It's crazy how I was advised to change some of the things you are now reading, stuff like "depicts Tyla andโ€ฆ" I was told to go with "containing" instead and to oftenly put punctuation before sources just when separating charts. When I was going through the FA reviews, most of them were advised to keep it "concise and precise." 1989 was given as an example to take reference from. I guess we will just have to wait for the PR reviewer's comment. And what I also fail to understand is, what comes first between quotation marks (inverted commas) and a period? When I was improving "Jump", someone told me about the Oxford comma as you see on the title of the page. I'm so confused right now. dxneo (talk) 03:39, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Well, every article is different and there's no "one size fits all" here; we very often can't use one article as a template for another, but we can use said article to give us ideas for other articles. Tyla is a very recent album and there might be further material to be added, such as reviews, awards, nominations, inclusion in end-of-year lists, etc. Yes, the Oxford comma often trips me up; I don't use it as a habit so I need to remember to use it when copy-editing some articles! If you're unsure of anything, the Manual of Style is a useful guide; Wikipedia uses the logical punctuation style so periods go outside the closing quotation marks unless you're quoting multiple sentences. You can always ask questions at the GOCE main talk page. Thanks for fixing the issues I noted below. Cheers, Baffleโ˜ฟgab 04:15, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

(โ†) I've now finished my c/e and I found a couple of problems. In "Singles", I failed verification on two pieces of text. In the first paragraph we have: "Two remix versions of "Water", one featuring the American rapper Travis Scott and the other featuring the DJ Marshmello, were released on 17 November 2023." I checked the source when I rewrote the sentence; the source discusses the Scott remix but it doesn't mention a DJ Marshmello so I've marked that text with [failed verification]. If you can't find a source, remove that part of the sentence.

I've done the same in a fourth-para sentence: "It debuted at number 18 on the New Zealand Hot Singles chart". Here, the source is a chart website that is regularly updated so it no-longer lists "Art"; also, the provided archive link goes to a version of that page from December 2021, long before that song was even written. The best thing to do here would be to mark the citation with "url-status=deviated" and find the correct version of the page in the Internet Archive.

I also think the lede is a little short and could be expanded to better summarise the article. Perhaps add some text about the promotional tour, live gigs and other efforts. That's just a suggestion though. I hope the c/e is useful, good luck with your planned GA nom. Cheers, Baffleโ˜ฟgab 03:36, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

The article is already GA, I'm going for FA now. I have already addressed the failed verification issues. And thank you for everything I appreciate it. I will try to expand the lede. dxneo (talk) 03:42, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

About Chihiro

Hi, @Dxneo.

Too bad about your internet, seriously. However, I leave my message here once and for all, to tell you that the article, for me, seems super poor. I think copyediting is almost exclusively for prose, so I can't even remotely do the research work for you. I mean, I can improve the prose, but it wouldn't be prepared for GA anyway; in addition, copyediting does not guarantee that an article is ready to be good or featured. Invitation to Project 1989

Hey, hey, hey! Just thinking while you've been getting down with all these article reviews and DYK nominations in this platform, so I have invited you to this. sick. project.

All puns aside, I, have invited you to join my little project, Project 1989, which is made to expand Wikipedia's coverage of Taylor Swift's 1989 era. It would mainly focus on creating articles and improving them to GA/FA statuses, but given your track record with articles on Wikipedia, I know places where you can put your experience to good use.

Interested? Drop by this project's article and sign your name on the list, there is too many blank spaces there. You can still help out a bit if you want to. Thanks! brachy08 (chat here lol) 02:36, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi again, @Dxneo.

I'm here just to let you know a sad thing. I think it was my mistake for offering to copyedit the article. From my perspective, it's too incomplete, so I would be too limited in my editing, and I don't think it's my business according to the copyediting regulations. I think you should search for more content because I have seen more sources and useful information for the article. Also, I don't have time to correct it right now. If you still want me as a copyeditor in this case, I suggest completing the article a little more so that it can operate in a more satisfactory and effective way. Santi (talk) 04:52, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you Santi, I will work on it a little later Thank you again for doing this. dxneo (talk) 06:22, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
