Simple wikipedia
Would you possibly know of a way to get a ClueBot NG-like bot on the simple wikipedia that can do QD (our CSD) too? The operator for the simple wikipedia version went missing on the 27th of October, and there's dozens of nonsense pages and blatant, obvious vandalism that's passing through because of the infrequency of RC patrolling. Thanks, Adotchar| reply here 22:35, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
“ | Setting up ClueBot NG can be a complex process. You'll need to talk to the development team for instructions and help with setting it up. To talk with the dev team, join the IRC Channel. Before trying to set it up, you need to consider a few things. Most importantly, ClueBot NG learns what is vandalism based on a dataset, which often needs to be very large to be effective. To be effective on Wikipedia, it needs at least 10,000 constructive edits and 10,000 vandalism edits. This is impractical for most smaller wikis to generate. It may be possible to use the dataset generated from Wikipedia on your wiki, if the content and vandalism trends are sufficiently similar. To test this for your wiki, you will need to at least come up with a trial dataset - say, about a hundred constructive edits and fifty vandalism edits, at a minimum. More is better. With a trial dataset, you can evaluate whether or not the Wikipedia training set can be used on your wiki. If your wiki is very large and has a sufficient number of edits to generate a full training set, then this is preferable, as it can then be personalized to your wiki's content and trends. However, generating the necessary datasets is up to you. It's important that they be random, and a representative sampling (i.e., unbiased). In addition to this, the trial dataset should be random, to accurately calculate a threshold and gauge effectiveness. You will also need a Linux/UNIX system to run the bot on, and sufficient knowledge to compile and install the various dependencies. | ” |
— User:ClueBot NG/FAQ#How do I run ClueBot NG on my own MediaWiki installation? |
- The original ClueBot worked based on heuristics and may be more suitable for simplewiki. The source code for the original ClueBot is at User:ClueBot/Source. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 22:56, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you! My experience with bots is 0, so do you know of policies/guidelines/tutorials of how to set it up, get the edits in so it knows what's constructive and what's not, and all the other essential information about bots? Sorry to ask so many questions. Thanks, Adotchar| reply here 01:33, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).
- Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.
