Alberta Odell Jones and The Life of Alberta Jones

You appear to have tried to create a duplicate article. Wikipedia only needs one article about this person, and it is the article which was started in February 2019. If you have useful new material to add to that article, then you should edit that article. I have proposed that your new article should be merged into the existing article: that is the way the encyclopedia works. • Please do not re-create this article. As PamD stated, if there's anything in your work that isn't in the main article then we can merge it in but you shouldn't create a separate new article. Merging

Hi! I took a look to see what is in the draft that could be merged into the main article. By large most of the material is already mentioned, but I do see that the following information isn't in the article:

• The NAACP membership isn't mentioned. That could go into the activism section.

• There isn't any information about Jones's legacy, however keep in mind that this should stick to things like places or things named after her, as well as posthumous awards or honors. General statements about her inspiring people should be avoided since it's kind of vague. If we have a source for it we can state that specific notable persons have been inspired by her, however.

• We could probably include Jones's sister criticizing the "investigation", however we should summarize this into our own words rather than relying on quotes.

I didn't include information about the city, as the source for this didn't mention Jones. The article should only cover information about the city as it applies to Jones, assuming that we have sourcing that covers this. Something to remember is that we can't guarantee that she experienced all of the injustice (although it's very likely that she did) that other African-Americans in the city did, which is why sourcing that covers Jones is important. Welcome

I see that your article was tagged for speedy deletion, this is the welcome mat that you have to learn to weave as you negotiate the editing process here on Wikipedia. I too was given the same welcome, my first article was a collaboration that was deleted and torn down so many times, my style of editing was called convoluted, it made no sense, it wasn't following the manual of style, etc, etc. After many false starts, I learned to talk 'their' language, and found that I had a natural style for getting the articles started, leaving the cleanup to more experienced editors. I took to writing articles about those the encyclopedia 'left out', the marginal, the oppressed, women and stories that needed to be told. So, welcome to the club, you're not alone.

When I saw the story of Alberta Odell Jones I knew it had to be written. But sources were few, and I had to do research. All of the things you have in your version I found while researching her, but the key thing is finding sources to back up every sentence in the article. I knew that her NAACP background was important, that's why she's listed as a 'Civil Rights Activist'. You have to opportunity to fix that part of her story by weaving into the narrative. Create the sentence that pulls the details of that thread together, find the reference sources, and EDIT the article that's already accepted. You don't need to break the door down to get the story fleshed out, you just have to add to the narrative and make sure it won't be removed as spam and/or uncited information. (my advice, not qualified, but it's available and freely given.)

Might I also introduce you to the Women in Red. You can find women whose stories need to be researched and told by visiting their corner of Wikipedia. When I was just starting to get my footing I wrote the She-She-She Camps, another editor speedy deleted it, thinking it was a duplicate of CCC Camp. I asked if she had read the article before assuming that it was already written, she looked at it again and then gave me wonderful advice to flesh out my original meanderings. So If you need help, ask, there are some editors here whose main focus is not removing your article because of some few mistakes, but who will correct what needs correcting before anyone else dumps it in the trash. That Editor was User:Bfpage. Her toolboxs are the shizzle....
