Great article on Shelly Manne. :-) Danny 03:12, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Just what I was about to say! Cheers, -- Infrogmation 05:11, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

You've got your article listed on the Main Page as a new article too. Congratulations! Danny 10:56, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Punctuation

Just to let you know that the MoS specifies that punctuation should go outside inverted commas unless it's part of what's being quoted, etc. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:05, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, that goes contrary to the prevailing American style. However, in the interests of Wikipedia consistency (we try to cross national boundaries as well), I will attempt to conform to this usage. Alan W 03:47, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message on my Talk page. Yes, we have to go against at least one editing style, and I think it was felt that the more lohical one should prevail (just as U.S. style prevails in other areas).
With regard to "West Coast jazz", it's not that I disagree entirely with your scepticism about the label (about most labels of this kind, in fact, like "cool jazz" and "babyfood smooth jazz"), but scare quotes are usually used only on the first occasion of use of the term. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:27, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia June Meetup

Hi, I noticed you are a New Yorker. If you are interested in meeting Wikipedians outside of cyberspace take a look at this and please tell any other Wikipedians that you think might be interested in participating about this event. Thanks. Alex756 02:25, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Avery Sharpe

You're right about Avery Sharpe. There were two or three that may like him that may have been removed, but I would not say that I went overboard. I saw you re-add him immediately on my watchlist, and I agree with you. - ßottesiηi (talk) 02:34, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

re: Earl Hines references

-- Copied from User talk:Rick Block#Earl Hines references --
Rick, it's great that you got the Dance book and have begun to use it. As for your reformatting the references, I notice that the format you are using, from Wikipedia:Citing_sources/example_style (which does not actually enforce one specific format) is the APA--American Psychological Association--format. That would suggest that it would be more suitable for scientific articles. On the other hand, I see that Wikipedia usage varies so widely, even within a given field, that I am not inclined to argue about this for now. I guess most important right now is expanding and neatening the article itself; we can always revisit the formatting issue at a later time. As always, just "thinking out loud." --end copy--

I'm not too concerned about the citation format - just thought matching the style that the cite templates produce would be a good idea. I don't know if you have any of the Dance books (I assume they're all structured similarly); it's a transcription of remembrances from a variety of folks. The first 128 pages are from Hines. Other chapters are narrated by a variety folks who played with Hines throughout his career. As a reference, it's a little more like a primary reference than a secondary reference which makes it a little hard to use (full of detail, most of which should probably be validated against another source). I may need to get another source for corroboration. -- Rick Block (talk) 00:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
No, I don't have any of the Dance books. I looked in a couple of bookstores (admittedly not very intensively, as time is short for me these days) but failed to see any. I was, however, pleased when I dug up the Schuller book on my own shelves (I read it 17 years ago, then forgot I even had it), which includes 30 solid pages on Hines, largely from a musicological viewpoint. I will see if I can fit something in from there, and, in any case, if I can use it or anything else I have to corroborate anything added from Dance or elsewhere, I will attempt to do so. We no longer have to worry about praising Hines to the skies, as Schuller thinks he was a true genius and will back us up. --Alan W 01:17, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Shelley Manne

  • Boy is my face red. I was sure that Manne played on Court and Spark. However, when I looked at my copy at home tonight, I could find no credit for him. I'll delete that reference, if someone hasn't already.Bjones 05:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, I thought I should fix it myself if only as a show of good faith. I pride myself on the fact that, while I've made bad edits, I haven't made any in bad faith. The Teresa Brewer thing was sort of a lucky guess. "Theresa" is the more common spelling in this country, but I was puzzled by the red link. It seemed like there should be some article on her.Bjones 01:54, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
