- Hi ! Thanks Academia45 (talk) 17:37, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm not going to revert just yet, but what do you mean family page? This is the family page. It's a list of all notable individuals with the surname Yale. Roundish ⋆tc) 22:47, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yale family Wikipedia page, this is only a surname list page. Maybe you could help me with its formation ? Academia45 (talk) 22:49, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Everyone with the surname is the family though. What do you propose for a "family page"? Roundish ⋆tc) 22:49, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Something like the Cavendish family page or Kennedy family, which would feature the Yale family coat of arms and the whole family history and branches. Academia45 (talk) 22:54, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- And we would then remove all the Yale surnames who don't have a wiki page Academia45 (talk) 22:54, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Oh. That's a pretty good idea, is there a draft yet? Roundish ⋆tc) 22:56, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- I have a draft but it is not finished yet, as there is a lot to cover. Do you know how to create a page for this ? Academia45 (talk) 23:01, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, put {{subst:submit}} at the top, although I'm not seeing it in your contributions? Just to be clear, is this a Wikipedia:Draft or on Google Docs/Microsoft Word/etc? Roundish ⋆tc) 23:05, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'm relatively new here so I don't know all the terms, but as I didn't know how to do a draft on the website, I've started it on my computer, but like a Wikipedia page. Academia45 (talk) 23:11, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Click this link and copy paste into it. I made the draft for you, and this way I can also look at it :) Roundish ⋆tc) 23:16, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- okay great ! Academia45 (talk) 23:18, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- But now I've read the link you've sent me and so I will keep working on the draft and send it. Then we can maybe talk about it later ? I've saved the previous Yale surname list page so I have the full names list, feel free to revert my last edits, no worries now. Academia45 (talk) 23:17, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for publishing Levi Yale, looks pretty nice. I've done a few normal-ish cleanup on it if you want to see what I did on the article. I'd suggest maybe reading Wikipedia:Citing sources#Inline citations and in particular the bits about reducing repetition and reusing inline citations and footnotes. It makes it easier for readers to which references you're citing and makes editing the page easier, in general. I combined a few easy ones that appeared identical. Also perhaps look into using the family of "Cite" templates which can help normalize formatting, I see you included dates and titles in your references already, which is good!
Also, I noticed that one reference (that's repeated a few times?) is
<ref>[https://www.courant.com/1998/07/22/preservationist-attends-clintons-signing-of-measure/%20PRESERVATIONIST%20ATTENDS%20CLINTON%E2%80%99S%20SIGNING%20OF%20MEASURE,%20July%2022,%201998 Charter Oak : Free Principles, Free Men, Free Speech and a Free Press], Executive Committee of the Connecticut Anti-Slavery Society, Hartford, Vol. IV., No. 6, October, 1841, p. 4</ref>
that URL 404s since it has the title after the URL attached but more importantly the "Charter Oak : Free Principles" bit doesn't seem to match [1]. You may want to review all the refs using that and update them to where what they had meant to be.
I hope the above wasn't too much but I think they may be helpful pointers to help you update and produce more articles in the future that match expectations that editors have here. Skynxnex (talk) 03:56, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- I've fixed the link about the Charter Oak Journal reference, thanks for the feedback. About the Wikipedia:Citing sources#Inline citations, yes I will read it, as I've never really learned how to not repeat the same references over and over. About the Cite templates, yes I will use them, as I've already done many times in the past. Have a great day ! Academia45 (talk) 04:34, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

Nathan Eaton - Olympus
[edit]Hi Academia45,
Saw your note on the Nathan Eaton page. Totally fine if it is a 'recreation' of Eaton but what is our evidence it is a recreation of Eaton (as opposed to a recreation of John Harvard)?
Jjazz76 Jjazz76 (talk) 21:17, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I just looked at it and I think you are right. The face is pretty much the same and the ears as well from John Harvard's statue. So they basically did a copy of his face on the cigar but with the wrong hair color, making him older. And then the guy who initially updated the Nathaniel Eaton picture (not me, just augmented its initial size) made the hypothesis that it was Nathaniel Eaton. Somebody would need to do an artistic recreation of him in a book or whatever eventually, but you are right I guess, the guy's claim is dubious now.
- See images to compare :
- Nathaniel Eaton
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nathaniel_Eaton,_Olympus_ads.jpg
- John Harvard

- Thanks for double checking. Yeah, I think you came to the same conclusion as I did. Cigar-maker did "old version of John Harvard" and editor from years ago made the leap to Eaton.
- Maybe one day someone can get a picture of his grave in England and we can upload that.
- Happy editing! Jjazz76 (talk) 02:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yep ;) Good findings Academia45 (talk) 03:09, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Articles
[edit]I just wanted to stop by and thank you for all of the high-quality articles you've added to Wikipedia! It seems you do a good job digging up sources. I'm glad you caught on to the en dash–if I had any advice left to give it would be to add pages with ambiguous titles to their respective disambiguation pages, or create a hatnote at the base name article. Though I am curious as to your plans to "eventually clean up the surname page" of Yale (surname) by making a Yale family article. I agree that the Yale name page probably needs to be reformatted. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 03:24, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @AllTheUsernamesAreInUse, thank you very much, it's very kind of you ! Yes en dash was added, but for the disambiguation pages, I am not quite sure how to do it yet, I'll need to learn it. About the Yale surname page, well it could stay the way it is already actually, but I meant that I will add all the names to a new page on the Yale family, something like let's say the Roosevelt family, with a general history on their members and with their 3 coat of arms. I've been working on this for quite a long time now, as I needed to create pages for each notable individuals. There's still like 20 pages left to create, and even more with their in-laws or relatives. Academia45 (talk) 18:16, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- For the disambiguation pages, let's say you made a page called John H. Yale or John Yale (merchant) or something like that, you would want to add it to the John Yale disambiguation page as the subject's name is ambiguous. You can follow the formatting there if you don't know how to do that. For the hatnotes, let's take the page Donald Manson (fur trader) for example, you would want to add that page in a hatnote to Donald Manson. You can see the hatnote at Donald Manson and use it as an example. I guess my main concerns with Yale (surname) would be that it's overly detailed and overlinked, but that's a whole different subject and you're not responsible for it so I don't want to make it your problem. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 02:12, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay thank you a lot, I've done it now on the John Yale disambiguation page and added a hatnote on Donald Manson's page. For the surname list, okay, I will not clean anything. Academia45 (talk) 18:46, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Also, you don't necessarily have to create articles on every member before creating the Yale family page, but if you want to that's fine. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 02:13, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yea I know, but I'd rather complete their list of notable individuals, so that way I'll be able to focus on other pages afterwards. Thanks again for your feedback. Academia45 (talk) 18:49, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- On second thought, you can go ahead and do whatever your plans were with the Yale (surname) page. I'll hold off for now and monitor it. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 05:09, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay great, no problem Academia45 (talk) 05:25, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia Library Support Appreciated
[edit]Hi,
Sorry for using your talk page, but I couldn't think of a better way to access you. You have shown an interest in British (Country House) Architectural History. I have suggested that Wikipedians gain access to the Country Life Archive on The Wikipedia Library (https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/suggest/). Please feel free to support this suggestion (titled "Country Life Archive (Proquest)" on the above page) if you think this is a good idea.
Feel free to @ me here with any questions.
Cheers, EPEAviator (talk) 23:28, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi EPEAviator. Do you mean the English country house page or List of country houses in the United Kingdom page ? For your request, sure why not. How can I help exactly, do I need to put the Country Life Archive (Proquest) in the partner name section ? And then, what do I enter in the description section ? Academia45 (talk) 23:39, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I mean English country houses in general (not a specific page). It is a resource that is very good, having an article at some time in its print run for most English country houses/stately homes/manor houses you can find on Wikipedia. You don't need to submit your own application, all you need to do is click this link, log in via Wikipedia if prompted, ctrl + f for "Country Life Archive (Proquest)", and then click "Upvote" next to that bit. Klbrain (talk) 08:37, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Klbrain thanks! Yes you are right about the military stuff. I could not find much about it unfortunately. It seems that he was in the militia, but he was not living at the time of the American Revolutionary War, that was his father, as that war ended in 1783 and Orson was born in 1799. I didn't find him in the Civil War records either. I think his rank came from an invitation basis only regiment or something like that. An example is General Edwin R. Yale who was part of the New Haven Grays, which despite having some records of the evolution of his ranks, he was basically giving the title of general because he was in the upper class, as his regiment was a sort of exclusive club. Academia45 (talk) 09:13, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification (and for correcting my rather terrible American history error!). Your explanation of the title makes sense. Klbrain (talk) 09:18, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hi Academia45, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 09:35, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Joe Roe, thank you very much for the user right! I will keep working at creating high quality pages, and keep learning as well. Have a great day ;) Academia45 (talk) 23:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
