- Feel free to remove the notifications when you have resolved the issue. The "-4,555" is not a measure of quality, but of quantity: You removed that many bytes of text from the page in your edit. Compare the file sizes in the page history. Huon (talk) 04:03, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

My typo was having two parens, but the actual link has only one paren. Your bot should check the existence of the link, if it's going to give a warning.
- Éclair (typeface) -- is a redlink (at the time this comment was made)
- Éclair (typeface -- is a bluelink
I suggest that if the bot is finding mismatched brackets as part of the link portion of a wikilink, that if the old version is a redlink and the new version is a bluelink, then no warning should be issued.

- That's not a false positive; you removed the closing bracket from the [http://web.archive.org/web/20031209164253/http://www.bible.org/docs/soapbox/2petotl.htm ''Second Peter: Introduction, Argument, and Outline''] link. Once summoned, the bot will list all mismatched brackets it finds because it isn't all that good at determining which one you caused (and arguably it screwed up here because it pointed out one that's at best marginally related). Also, people may want to fix all issues when they're at it. I have fixed what I could, but someone who can actually read Hebrew should take a look at the {{Hebrew}} template in footnote 7. - Your edit, including the mismatched bracket, was reverted by Piriczki, probably because you didn't provide any sources for the added content. For example, "which was not served well by Lange's over-dominating backing vocals" is an opinion that would definitely have to be backed up by a published third-party review - we cannot just take your word for that. You can undo Piriczki's edit, but you should not do so without also providing a reliable source to support your changes. Huon (talk) 01:09, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Northcenterchamber (talk) 20:20, 5 October 2013 (UTC) The single word "Northcenter" vs. the term "North Center" was only changed in the neighborhood section. While the City of Chicago lists North Center as one of 77 communities, within each of those communities are several smaller "neighborhoods." In the case of the North Center community, it's namesake neighborhood is spelled as one word, as has been since the 1920's or so as evidenced in copies of a neighborhood news paper housed in the Sultzer Public Library, and later by the chamber of commerce established in 1946.
The same problem exists for the Lake View community while the neighborhood is referred to as Lakeview.

- The bot simply isn't smart enough to figure out where a bracket belongs but is missing. Thus it instead points out where a bracket is that seems to be mismatched, and leaves it to a human to determine whether that's a surplus bracket that should be removed or whether another bracket needs to be added, and if so, where. If they're used for other purposes (including as "lesser than") produces false positives, such as here. You can either ignore that or reformat those titles without the ">". Clearly there are no broken brackets in the text you have pasted, although you have highlighted a < (less than sign) in red - If your bot thinks every < need to be followed by a > it needs to be turned off, NOW.
Moreover, I did not edit that section, or any sections anywhere near it. The diff you provided is to my edit to the "Notable People" section, which is 6 sections below the religion graph which includes the <.
I had left a stray bracket, which I have now corrected, but your Bot needs to be able to show the correct section on an editors page, not a random, totally unconnected section, where all the brackets are correct.
Arjayay (talk) 09:56, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- The bot keeps an eye on <> because they're used in HTML tags, where a mismatch could easily break half the article. Also, the bot isn't all that good at determining where a bracket is missing. Here you did introduce a bracket mismatch (which you fixed yourself), but because there was another mismatched bracket on the page, BracketBot considered the wrong one "mismatched". I think what may have caused the problem was that my new Wikipedia registration (neiltaylormarr) had not yet taken and I'd edited under my old Wkikipedia username (neilmarr) so that there appeared to be a conflict. I'd be grateful for any advice, but if I've broken a rule, I'd prefer to withdraw the piece with sincere apologies for my misunderstanding until I'm more clear on how to add valid references. Thanks for any further advice, though you've already been helpful. Best wishes. Neil Comment/question:

- That stray bracket was part of an attempt to include an external link in an image caption. While that didn't work, there was a corresponding opening bracket. I removed it. Huon (talk) 01:28, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Comment/question: The issue is the formatting result observed for the template "|range alt=" which appeared to drop a close-parenthesis if the line already contained an embedded closed-parenthesis at the end of the line.
Example 1:
{{Aircraft specifications
|range main=Range (1);
|range alt=Alt Range (2)
}}
Note the lack of a closed parenthesis in the example - not. Bizarre. This is NOT what I was observing in the original edit result (which follows as example 2).
Example 2:
{{Aircraft specifications
|range main=Range (1);
|range alt=Alt Range (2)
*'''Max Range:''' Range (3)
*'''Ferry Range:''' Range (4)
}}
Okay, so it appears the formatting issue is caused by the non-template definition lines following the "|range alt=" definition which upon closer inspection seems to be treating them as a continuation of the "|range alt=" template definition - because it places the closed parenthesis at the end of "Range (4)," not "Alt Rage (2)." Interesting, I didn't notice that when I made the edit to the page flagged by bracketbot.
I think there needs to be a work around for this issue as I think we're always going to have some information added that may not be defined by the rigid parameters of a template (as desirable as templates may be). The easiest solution for this current issue would be perhaps to add some template definitions - in this case "|range maxload=" and perhaps "|range empty=" or "|range ferry=."
MelioraCogito (talk) 22:18, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- There already is "ferry range=" and "ferry range alt=". Anyway, this is not a BracketBot issue, and you should propose such changes at Template talk:Aircraft specifications. Huon (talk) 23:56, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Evelyn Eaglesong (talk) 21:05, 27 October 2013 (UTC) too new to know how. But pleasant . Like examples, like most human beings a good example is self explanatory my friend, if you wish to alter, and have the authority and I see the skills to do please consider this: New to this but agree to have 3rd paty to specify as appropriate or not. I reviewed your area and saw many links and pictures of items as examples of what you were refering to. Intention is not to promote by link or otherwise anyitem that is not appropropiate. All links , even to external sources are recognized by search engine. I am ok with the link gone but it is a picture that gives the example of a moment devoted more so than the site itself. Happy to provide pic for you to add with no links , like your site that has pictures of things, are in one form or other tied together. kindly consider letting me know prior to removing or altering so that I may undertand as a new user what is deemed by you or others , happy to comply with explanation. Eckhart Tolle , or moment in time, movie, ideas about moments is sad and does not open up other "moments". Technical may not always be "right at the moment" LOL. Would you like a few pics that depic a moment devoted? Would you post? No squabble over links . your thoughts? Evelyn Eaglesong (talk) 21:05, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- To be blunt, you seem to be confusing the encyclopedia with free ad space. Also, re-adding the same content over and over again while you get reverted by multiple other editors is a good way to be considered disruptive. Given that most of your past edits consisted of adding spam to the moment disambiguation page, my advice would be to abstain from editing that topic and adding links to the "moments devoted to you" website, or you will soon find yourself blocked. - Editing an article about yourself is usually not a good idea due to your conflict of interest. Also, even you will have to cite reliable sources for your corrections; unsourced content may be removed at any time. Huon (talk) 19:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

- There is no approval process for edits (with a few irrelevant exceptions); however, I have reverted your changes because you had removed the article's lone reliable sources and instead added a bunch of sources that were unreliable or clearly not independent and used them as the basis for quite a bit of promotional content. That's not appropriate. Also, if you edit on behalf of the subject, you should have a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest. Huon (talk) 22:06, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

- If you prefer not to be notified when you break wikilinks or the like, you can opt out of the notifications. I fail to see why you wouldn't want to correct your mistakes, though.
- On an entirely unrelated note, the Marvin Miller article sounds rather sensationalist at times, with phrases such as "did something unheard for any professional ballplayer of that era" or "was represented by no less a figure than". Huon (talk) 22:05, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
