Comment/question: Hello & regard to you and your colleagues. You said that "my recent edit to Ann Lambton seemed less than neutral to you , so you removed it for now"It is a pity if you think so. Every body( of course the independent , brave historians) in the contemporary history of specially Middle East and Asia,Know very well that elements like Ann Lambton was the one of the most British active spy in Iran which had more than half a century effective role in Iranian history , & also it is evident that most of western Espionage corps sent to Asia ,Africa,America and Middle East specially disguised by personalities like Priests, historian, cultural or social experts. Is it not true?If you think like so that she was not a spy it is like that you believe William Colby or William Stephen Stephenson Also were not British spies.Dear friend if you are really trying to be different from the so called Zionists media you should firstly be brave enough to open your mind fully what is what , and you are which side , the oppressed people side which have been looted , robbed , suppressed, massacred by different covert or overt tools in the hand of western colonial, Imperialistic Zionist governments... in the last 500 years in different parts of the glob, or to be in the side of Zionists puppets, paid or unpaid mercenaries in world media forums to make folly of people.Any how those sentences that I have added was quite right , and if you are not brave enough , I have to write a full article to introduce puppets like A.Lambton & Richard Fry and put it on my own website, but a pity will remain that you are not the one you Claim! 217.66.206.178 (talk) 10:00, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

24.16.145.54 (talk) 01:34, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- Don't worry, the bot points out the mismatched parentheses for you; you had three opening parentheses but just two closing parenthesis in the sentence after the table. In this case, however, your edit entire was reverted by Kanguole because the table mismatch was deliberate, not an accident. I think the omission of neutral tone may also be deliberate (since it's irrelevant to the tone shift), but I'm no expert - you may want to discuss that at the article talk page. Jimc52 (talk) 22:59, 30 April 2014 (UTC) Hello. I am taking the suggestion of converting my prior citations to a better <ref><ref> syntax as was suggested by one of your people last night in a prior comment. I am finding the <ref name=""> syntax a lot more useful as a result. This way, I can refer to multiple comments made in the text to a single citation. I am just learning how to do this, BTW, so please bear with me. I am in the process of adding citations to enhance this article, to improve the grammar, to add information that did not exist before, and to discuss additional information that was left out by the original author.
- Thanks for your contributions, though they largely seem unrelated to Bracket Bot. All the bot pointed out was that you have removed one parenthesis, creating a mismatch. Huon (talk) 11:49, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

This biographical article needs additional citations for verification. Please help by adding reliable sources. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous or harmful. (April 2014)
- Getting rid of that note would require better sources, such as articles about Singh in newspapers or reputable magazines. Right now you have only a single source of that quality, the Indian Newslink article, and since that gets the details of the title Singh won wrong (it's an Asia Pacific title, not a World title), I have doubts about its reliability. Quoting it verbatim also raises issues of copyright. Besides, it doesn't have all that much to say about Singh anyway - we would need reliable sources for all the content. - BracketBot does not edit articles; it only points out possible problems to the users it believes responsible. In this case you had added half a link. I removed it for now, though once the draft on the physicist becomes a live article a link should be re-added. Regarding the draft, I'm not quite sure what kind of help you need. At a glance it would need better sources; her own YouTube video, her interview or her faculty page are not WP:Independent sources, and the third-party sources discussing her largely do so only in the context of a single event: Her 2005 heavy-fermion superconductors research. I don't think the current sources suffice to establish her notability. Huon (talk) 23:50, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

- Emoticons are a known issue. It's not easy for a bot to determine whether a bracket is mismatched by accident or because it's part of an emoticon, particularly since there are lots of possible combinations for emoticons. Huon (talk) 23:04, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

We have a dedicated Bette Davis filmography sub-article; the section was supposed to list only the more significant movies. Also, the division into "notes" and "references" was deliberate, with the "notes" sectoin holding the footnotes and the "references" section the full citations for the short footnotes such as "Stine (1974), p. 10". The problem was that you added the footnote below the {{reflist}} template in the "References" section instead of above; I fixed that. However, I see no indication that poemhunter.com is reliable by Wikipedia's standards; there is no indication that their poet biographies are subject to any editorial oversight or fact-checking. As the name implies, BracketBot is concerned with mismatched brackets and notifies users when it believes there may be a problem. - When you added a reference for the birthdate, you also removed a closing parenthesis, creating a mismatch. That's what the bot notified you about. Fixed. Huon (talk) 01:03, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

- As the bot pointed out on your talk page, you added an opening parenthesis without a corresponding closing parenthesis. That said, I'm not sure your blog would be considered a reliable source by Wikipedia's standards since it's not subject to editorial oversight (see also WP:SELFCITE), and some of the content you added seems rather off-topic. I have removed some of that and also tidied up your references a little; see WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes. Huon (talk) 01:03, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

- Since the page the bot notified you about has since been deleted, pinpointing the specific error seems a rather moot point, but A930913 may want to check out the notification itself: It seems BracketBot added no empty line above his comment, but two below, leading to a bunching up of comments. For a semi-open interval, brackets "(" and "]" do not necessarily have to match. Limit-theorem (talk) 12:41, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- True, but the bot isn't smart enough to realize when it's dealing with semi-open intervals. However, to my understanding it should be smart enough not to be triggered by mismatched brackets within the <math> environment. A930913 may want to take a look at that. Huon (talk) 00:03, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- Turns out that if there were still unmatched brackets on the page, BracketBot would still fire. It should now (on the next run) double check the new diff less the markup for balanced brackets. 930913 {{ping}} 12:41, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

I am sorry that i am not familiar with the Wikipedia syntax but this is what I wanted to include:
Torre San Colombano, Corsica 20th of May 2014
Certificate
To Whom It May Concern
This is to certify that I am the hereditary chief of the Negroni Family in Corsica, a family that traces its ancestry to the 11th century. I am, by inheritance, the owner of the Family title which is Marquis de Negroni.
Furthermore, I certify that in the genealogy of the Negroni family there going back to the 11th century there is no one by the name of Camillo Negroni. This Camillo may be a legend or the invention of someone that has a private agenda to promote this legend. It is impossible to prove that someone did not exist but those who claim the existence of Camillo Negroni should provide at least a birth certificate and not just a book by a bartender.
Finally, I certify that the true inventor of the Negroni Cocktail is my ancestor General Pascal Olivier de Negroni, Count de Negroni. The newspaper article, “Corse Matin, dated the 2nd of February 1980 Sunday Edition mentions this invention. Pascal Olivier invented the drink in Saint Louis de Senegal (a French Colony at the time) as a present to his bride and a digestive aid for himself where he was married and lived from 1855 to 1865. He married in 6 May 1857 in Saint Louise de Senegal to Blanche Elisa Gerard Fontallard (Paris 6 March 1834-Paris 23 April 1879. She was the daughter of Henry Alexandre Gerard Fontallard, a famous painter, and Adelaide Elisabeth Hellant. Later the Negroni drink was adopted by the “Cercle Militaire” (Officers Club), in Paris.
Following is a short biography of General Pascal Olivier, Count de Negroni:
Pascal Olivier de Negroni de Cardi, Comte de Negroni (Born: Castle of San Colombano, Rogliano, Corsica, 4 April 1829-Died: Alencon, Orne, France, 22 October 1913). Pascal married twice. His first marriage was 6 May 1857 in St. Louis de Senegal to Blanche Elisa Gerard Fontallard (Paris 6 March 1834-Paris 23 April 1879). She was the daughter of Henry Alexandre Gerard Fontallard, a famous painter, and Adelaide Elisabeth Hellant. His second marriage was 1 February 1881 in Bayeaux, Calvados, to Marie Emma Duval (Evreux, Eure, 3 August 1841-Senlis, Oise, 27 September 1883). She was the daughter Jules Edouard Duval and Julie Ernestine Peclet. Pascal joined the French Army at 18 years of age and retired as a Brigadier General after a long illustrious career spanning 44 years. He is best remembered in the French Army annals for leading the legendary charge of cuirassiers in the Battle of Reichshoffen during the Franco Prussian War of 1870. His Regiment was totally destroyed but his charge prevented a greater French defeat. As a reward for his valiant actions and exemplary conduct he was personally decorated on 20 August 1870 by the French Emperor, Louis Napoleon, with the Officer's Cross of the Imperial Legion of Honor. On 3 September 1870 he was captured by the Prussians during the Battle of Sedan and spent time as a prisoner of war until his liberation 28 March 1871. On 27 December 1884 he was promoted to Brigadier General and on 4 May 1889 he was named Commander of the Legion of Honor. In 1891 he retired to his Chateau de Rochefeuille, near Mayenne, Mayenne. Pascal Olivier was the inventor of the famous “Negroni Cocktail” (equal parts of Campari, Gin, and Sweet Vermouth, served in a short glass over ice and garnished with an orange slice).

- In short, personal certifications such as yours above are not considered reliable sources, and I expect many of the bibliography entries above will be utterly irrelevant to the topic at hand. For example, I can't imagine that a 1910 book on Renaissance military history will discuss drinks. Huon (talk) 23:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

You should check WP:Identifying reliable sources on the kinds of sources we're looking for (many of those I didn't remove are not independent, for example, and should be gotten rid of), and Help:Referencing for beginners on how to easily cite them. Dave (talk) 04:30, 29 May 2014 (UTC) Hi, I didn't understand what needed o be changed with my last edit. Is there an extraneous bracket or a missing one?
Also, I have found an omission, but the section is too complex for me to edit. It deals with the section on Morse Code. It has to do with the prosigns.
The omission is for the 'End of work" prosign, which should show "SK" as the prosign for "End of Work". As an aside, the prosign, "SK" is also used to indicate a "Silent Key", which is a deceased Amateur operator, i.e., at his or her "End of Work". These are shown in the publication, "QST" under the Silent Key column.
The text in question is:
| Prosigns || End of work ||
David Thanks
- It was a missing bracket that by now has been repaired by Ccontinisio. I'm not sure I understand the prosign issue; it's already mentioned in the Morse code article. However, wouldn't "SK" require a longer break after the three dots to indicate the end of a letter? The prosign doesn't seem to have that longer break, for all I can tell. My suggestion would be to raise the issue at the talk page; editors there likely are much more knowledgeable about that topic than me. Huon (talk) 21:21, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

- @Abhinav0908: When you check the Diff BracketBot linked for you, [ here], you'll note that you had copied only part of the reference's title, including an opening parenthesis without a corresponding closing parenthesis. That's what summoned the bot. Things were a little more complicated because there already were mismatched brackets on the page before you began editing; the bot highlights all mismatches it sees, not just the one you caused. Comment/question: the syntax seems to be hardly affected but if anybody disagrees, please perform the necessary edit as I am not yet sufficiently au fait with the system to do it without possibly causing additional problems! The only problem with the actual text, which I will attempt to edit at a later date when the precise information has been verified by a check able reference, is the terms if the arrangement whereby Pfizer has taken on the former Wyeth drug brands in most of the world but those rights and brand names now belong, in South Africa,Botswana and Lesotho, to Aspen Pharmaceuticals, one of Southern Africa's largest and most important manufacturers. I am trying to learn more about editing articles and have a totally new page in mind; if I find myself getting bogged down, I would like to know that there is support available whether though some messaging system here on Wikipedia itself or by email direct to the address with which I registered. MatthewBurton (talk) 13:43, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
- This could be resolved by turning "modifying" into "adding" or "removing", as the case may be, but it gets complicated when different types of brackets are involved in the same edit, possibly adding some types and removing others. - @JoeParrisj: You fixed that bracket issue yourself, but the source you gave (for rather obvious reasons) didn't say anything about observation of the liturgical year by Evangelicals, or about Pentecost, and your edit also didn't address the fact that the paragraph simultaneously claims Evangelicals do observe the liturgical year, and that they don't do so. - To be considered notable enough for an encyclopedia article, a person must have been subject to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as articles about her written by newspapers or reputable magazines. - If you look at the talk page where the notification was added, you'll find it's called User talk:117.193.192.216 - that's indeed the IP address, to which edits of users who edite while not logged in are attributed. If the edit was made by that IP address, the bot has no option other than to attribute it to that IP address - if the edit had been made by a logged-in user, the bot would have left the note at the talk page for the username instead. What the bot cannot do is associate IP addresses with user accounts or vice versa - that would require more rights than any bot I'm aware of has, and privacy issues would prevent publishing such connections even if the bot could determine them. If you didn't make that edit, then it's indeed likely that the IP address was assigned to someone else in early May. Huon (talk) 23:55, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

I have noticed this page, I think first found around 2003, in my studies of different yacht rating rules, trying to become a yacht-designer. I am perplexed that it is not more complete, despite others being more knowledgeable about these. And despite updates to other links as the J-Class, the M-Class, The N-Class, the R-class and the S-class on wikipedia
The list of references is to have links in the text as I go along in my evenings (European Time)
Questions:
How do I make footnotes.
How do I make an new section or paragraph.
Now I have discovered "Talk", of which the the last entry seems to be the proper one for Big boats designed around 1929 and later. Why were these removed from the main page? May I select copy-paste some of these back? with proper references, where available.
Why do you not approach the editors of "Wooden Boat" magazine for editing, they are the most knowledgeable persons on the Universal Rule extant and have had several articles in the 2002 to 2010 period on several yachts and designers to the Universal Rule. The only other person I know of, is the owner/designer of M-Boats, who wants to promote his designs of M-Class boats and he is not talking, or sharing his knowledge.
Should I copy the page, work on it till it is complete to my satisfaction or to my abilities, then upload it?
Thank you in advance Americascupfreak
- @Americascupfreak: I assume this is about the Universal Rule article? That's actually far beyond the scope of this page, which is supposed to deal with problems with ReferenceBot, the bot that notified your (?) Hi, I'm in the process of editing the Wikipedia entry heading = "Peter Kellman." I'm doing this in consultation with the subject, Peter Kellman himself. All edits including source and reference list are accurate. This is not a false or malicious edit attempt. Nealchristopher (talk) 13:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Nealchristopher: I can only emphasize what DarkFalls said on your talk page: Edits should be based on reliable published sources, and except for uncontroversial details such as a birthdate such sources should be independent of the subject. For biographies of living persons we should use inline citations to clarify which source supports which part of the article's content. - In short, these parentheses were mismatched (now fixed). Regarding citations, we prefer reliable sources that are independent of the subjects. I'm not sure there are any sources that will discuss the topic of this list, "films released by Arrow Films", in any detail; I don't think the topic is notable enough for a stand-alone list. If those were films produced by one company, sure, but being re-released years or even decades later? This looks like a sales catalogue, and its only saving grace is the lack of a "Buy here!" link.
