Question

Why does LeSean McCoy appear in Category:Pages with citations using unnamed parameters? --Frze > talk 00:47, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

I don't know either. See the discussion at Module_talk:Citation/CS1#CS1_error_does_not_display_when_citation_is_not_displayed.2C_but_the_category_is_applied. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:02, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Pausini

Hi! Please, can you re-edit because in this way we lost the sales of album as of 2014--95.75.136.157 (talk) 00:41, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

The bot doesn't edit, it only notifies of (possible) problems. Also, your sources were on average of lower quality than the sources they replaced, and several of your changes were not supported by any sources whatsoever. Thus your edits were reverted by Salamurai. Huon (talk) 01:19, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Regarding User talk:A930913/Archives/2013/Nov#Improving the help desk posts, the guideline WP:LINKSTYLE against links in headings only applies to mainspace. Links are common and fine at the help desk and user talk messages. It's used by many templated messages, for example {{Afd-notice}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:31, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

@PrimeHunter: I've edited the template. Take a look at it when it runs tonight and see what you think. Feel free to improve the templates or revert if it's not right. 930913(Congratulate) 22:14, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
I imagined a wikilink. Url's in headings are unusual but probably more useful in this case so let's just keep it. If gerrit:63395 is accepted then diff wikilinks will be possible. If Special:Diff/589665311 turns blue then it's a sign it has been accepted and deployed. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:00, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Odette article

Thanks for writing to me - I have deleted the unpaired bracket from my recent edit. Happy New Year! FClef (talk) 03:19, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank little Buddy Bot. You saved my bacon.

I've fixed the missing square bracket and the missing curly bracket. Richard Avery (talk) 13:43, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

User:ReferenceBot does not work - needs urgent repair

User:ReferenceBot does not work well: Take a look please:

<ref name="Boggess, pp. 196-203"> was invoked but never defined. User talk:Parkwells didn't get any information: [1]. There are so many new entries Category:Pages with citation errors - why User:ReferenceBot does not send messages since about three or four days? --Frze > talk 09:01, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

see [2] >>> no message [3] --Frze > talk 09:21, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, between a few bugs I need to find time to sort out and ReferenceBot getting logged out, it hasn't fully run every day recently. 930913(Congratulate) 11:30, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Please change Reference Errors message image

It should be red and bigger to be not ignored instead of Thanks --Frze > talk 11:02, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows: ...

Anybody can change the templates. User:ReferenceBot/inform/top User:ReferenceBot/inform/middle User:ReferenceBot/inform/bottom. The idea was to be more informational than warning, but if there is consensus to change the templates, feel free. 930913(Congratulate) 11:30, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
I think the big red warning would be too bitey. I have checked a random sample of recent ReferenceBot notifications, and I am seeing a lot of editors fixing their own errors. Many ReferenceBot error messages are posted on the pages of IP editors, where they will never be read, and on the pages of new editors, where the editors simply will not know how to fix the problems they have created. ReferenceBot is currently helping the helpable. If any change is needed, it is to the help documentation that explains how to fix each particular error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:14, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

User John de Norrona

please bear with me -- I will fix this sisyphus work sometime during the next days. Kindest regards and thanks John de Norrona (talk) 15:30, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

The mismatched brackets are all fixed, but the references themselves could do with quite a bit more work. You may want to check out the citation templates such as {{cite journal}}. Huon (talk) 21:44, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Removes prior warning messages?

hi, i recently warned an anonymous user for unconstructive editing; shortly afterward your ReferenceBot left a message about the same string of edits. however, on editing the page, the bot removed my message, which doesn't seem particularly productive to me. i also notice a welcome message was left, indicating, perhaps, that the bot assumed it was creating the talk page. was the removal simply due to the close temporal proximity of the edits? ~ Boomur [] 00:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

That does look like the equivalent of an edit conflict to me, something that shouldn't happen. A930913 will have to take a look. Huon (talk) 21:06, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
@Legoktm: Looks like a pywikibot problem. Know about this? 930913(Congratulate) 22:15, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the help with the fix-up of the citations in Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. If you find any more problems with the citations, please let me know. Iss246 (talk) 14:12, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

@Iss246: For reference #2, I changed |author= to |editor=. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:03, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

It is tedious work fixing the citations. To make the citations conform to the style of the American Psychological Association, the doi codes should be added immediately after the period that follows the page numbers. If anyone would like to help in doing that, I would appreciate it. Iss246 (talk) 14:49, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Re. your bot's msg in the above link: puzzled. I just don't see what it means [I'd have suppressed a bracket? (possible but only to replace it with a lot of info) or what else??]. Here I suspect that I don't understand its language because itself, in this case, doesn't know what it's going on about ;) So whatever it means, pls do make sure that yr bot doesn't start fiddling with the article without intelligent supervision (that's yours, not its own) (and maybe yours doesn't do that but I don't know so just in case...) Thanks. Have a good day. Or night... 88.219.191.34 (talk) 20:32, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

First of all, thank you for improving that article. Among all that improvement, you had forgotten an opening parenthesis for one of the dates. Fixed, among some other minor improvements. BracketBot itself does not edit articles at all but only notifies humans so they can take a look. Huon (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Too fast on the draw

Can Bracketbot be slowed down a bit? While I appreciate the information that I have made a mistake, a lot of them will get spotted and corrected as I edit the page anyway. The messages from Bracketbot are a distraction and cause talk page litter. Perhaps only responding to edits over two hours old? SpinningSpark 15:20, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Works of Henri Chapu

Resolved

Hi

I would very much appreciate your help as I seem to be making a mess of my citations. I add a citation, it seems okay but the next day is lost. Think I made the mistake of running "reflinks" bot through article.

What I really need to know is how I should deal with citations. Should I put [1] or [2] or is there another way?

I have written several wiki pieces but my recent piece on Antonin Mercie has received multiple tags which suggest the piece is not up to standard but when I approached the editor he did not seem inclined to help.

If you have time please look at the Mercie piece and let me know where I am going wrong. Do not worry about offending me. I just need to know where I am going wrong.

I am 74 years of age, retired and find writing up these Wikipedia whatnots really enjoyable. My modus operandi is to see what is already written on Wikipedia and if I think it does not adequately cover the artist then I compile a listing of the work done. I research it as thoroughly as I can.

Weglinde (talk) 10:49, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Still having major problems with links on "Works of Henri Chapu". Really need help! Sure you must be busy but I wonder whether using "reflinks" has caused all my problems.

Thanks

Weglinde (talk) 16:46, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Weglinde, I have fixed the first 35 references. Look at the pattern and you can fix the rest yourself. In general, the pattern inside each reference is: left bracket, web address, space, title of web page, right bracket, period, remaining text. Thanks for your hard work in improving this article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:49, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks BracketBot for the regulators list

Thanks for the detection on the page List of telecommunications regulatory bodies

I just added another minor edit to put the two regulators of Switzerland on the same line, by taking Canada as a model.

I am updating this page before translating it for the French version of Wikipedia --Coopedia (talk) 05:45, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you.

For both running BracketBot and making me chuckle with the final item in your to do list. :) Rockfang (talk) 05:15, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

BracketBot and nowiki tags

In the bot's recent edit to my talk page (for which many thanks), the markup extract was not displayed correctly. The nowiki tags inside the markup extract interfered with the nowiki tags used by the bot. You might consider disabling "nowiki" tags inside those extracts, for example by replacing the opening angle bracket with its HTML code. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:18, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

BracketBot

Hi! I'm Arnaugir from Catalan Wikipedia. Would it be possible to obtain the python source code of your bot? I'd like to implement it on my home wiki, and since you have already done the work I think I could reuse it (with proper attribution, sure!). If you agree, you can send it to arnauduran@gmail.com . Cheers!--Arnaugir (talk) 22:49, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
