Mohammed Shahabuddin[2] (Bengali: মোহাম্মদ সাহাবুদ্দিন, born 10 December 1949) is a Bangladeshi jurist, civil servant and politician who is serving as the 22nd and current President of Bangladesh since 2023. He is the first and only President till now to be born after the partition of India, in independent Pakistan. He is also the second person to occupy the post after Ziaur Rahman to hail from the Greater Rajshahi region. Chuppu was elected unopposed in the 2023 presidential election in the nomination of the ruling Awami League.
Born in Pabna, Chuppu joined the Bangladeshi independence movements as a student politician and fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War under the Mujib Bahini. In independent Bangladesh, he held several posts in the local chapters of Awami League and BakSAL until the August 1975 coup and his imprisonment. He has served in numerous capacities, including as a district and sessions judge and a commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission from 2011 to 2016.[3]
