Ed Winters, also known as Earthling Ed, is an animal rights activist, public speaker, filmmaker, and restaurateur from the UK.
Activism
[edit]Went to university in London, studied TV and film production.[1]
Winters initially became vegetarian in 2014 after reading an article about a lorry carrying chickens that crashed on the way to a slaughterhouse.[2] He then became vegan after watching the documentary Earthlings.[3]

In March 2020 Winters posted an image on social media claiming that "COVID-19 was caused by eating animals", which drew wider attention and was resposted by other accounts.[21] The post drew criticism online,[21] and has been analysed by USA Today to be "partly false" since "some of the claim is not supported by our research".[22] A Politifact review concurred, arguing that it "contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression". Winters responded to the USA Today article, concluding "the main rebuttal to the post is actually the same as the main argument for the post, which is that reducing contact is the best measure for reducing zoonotic disease."[23]

In 2022 Winters released the short film "Milk". In 2023 this won a People's Voice Webby Award in the Animation category.[31]
His second book, "How To Argue With A Meat Eater (and Win Every Time)", was published in December 2023.[32]
