Navigenics is a biotechnology company offering direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetics services. The company was founded in 2006 by David Agus, M.D. and Dietrich Stephan, Ph.D.
For $999, consumers can send in a swab collected from inside mouth and in turn receive genetics information that informs them of their predisposition to diseases, such as breast cancer, as well as to their genetic ancestry information.
Navigenics differs from other DTCs in that results are offered in consultation with a genetics counsellor and are signed off by a doctor.
