Rafayel Ghazaryan (Armenian: Ռաֆայել Ղազարյան; born 17 May 1990) is an Armenian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or forward..[1]

Ghazaryan played in international club tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, making 15 appearances for FC Mika and FC Alashkert, and scoring one goal in the Europa League. He also played for Armenian Premier League clubs FC Mika, FC Alashkert, FC Ararat Yerevan, FC Gandzasar Kapan, and FC Noah.

Club career

FC Urartu, (FC Banants)

Between 2005 and 2009, Ghazaryan played for the youth team of FC Urartu (formerly FC Banants) in the Armenian Premier League, participating in the First League. In the following season, he moved to the senior team of FC Mika.

FC Mika

In 2009, Ghazaryan signed a contract with the FC Mika, a team competing in the Armenian Premier League.On May 30, 2010, Ghazaryan made an appearance at the Ayg Stadium in a match against FC Pyunik, coming on as a substitute for Ednei (footballer, born 1985) during the second-half interval.In the 2010-2011 season, he participated in the UEFA Europe League against FC Rabotnicki. On May 14, 2011, in a match against FC Ararat Yerevan, Ghazaryan entered the field in the 57th minute and scored his debut goal [2] in the 88th minute, assisted by Dong Fangzhuo. 2011: He claimed the 2011 Armenian Cup with FC Mika.[3] Rafayel Ghazaryan consistently demonstrated growth in his skills over the years, gaining valuable experience while playing alongside footballers like Dong Fangzhuo, who won the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United.2012-2013: Ghazaryan took part in UEFA Europa League matches and scored [4], [5] against Rudar Pljevlja. Additionally, he secured second place[6] in the 2012–13 Armenian Premier League and won the Armenian Supercup, [7] Ghazaryan reached new heights in his career, scoring in four consecutive league matches. He was frequently included in the Team of the Week [8][9] [10] of the Armenian Premier League.The 2012-2013 Armenian Premier League season was considered the longest, with each team playing 42 matches. In this season, only 3 footballers managed to play all the matches in the championship, and Ghazaryan [11] was one of them. 2013-2014: He achieved third place in the 2013–14 Armenian Premier League and participated in UEFA Europa League matches against RNK Split. 2014-2015: Ghazaryan played in the 2014–15 Armenian Cup final against FC Pyunik. Ghazaryan also joined the list of footballers who played more than 100 matches [12] for FC Mika.Ghazaryan, in the FC Mika squad, played 120 matches and scored 19 goals. On June 1, 2015, Rafayel Ghazaryan left FC Mika and signed a contract with FC Alashkert.

In his debut match for FC Alashkert against FC Ulisses Yerevan, Ghazaryan provided an assist[14] to Héber (footballer), who later played for New York City FC and Seattle Sounders in the MLS. Ghazaryan participated in the UEFA Europa League, playing against St Johnstone and advancing to the first round. He also played in the second round against FC Kairat.In 2016, Ghazaryan competed in the UEFA Champions League, facing FC Santa Coloma and advancing to the first round, before playing in the second round against FC Dinamo Tbilisi.In 2017, Ghazaryan transferred to FC Ararat Yerevan.

FC Ararat Yerevan

On August 2, 2017, Ghazaryan signed a contract[15] with FC Ararat Yerevan, a team competing in the Armenian Premier League, one of the most famous and prestigious football clubs in Armenia. He spent the remaining six months of his contract with the club, making 17 appearances and scoring 2 goals. Following his time at FC Ararat, he transferred to FC Gandzasar Kapan.

FC Gandzasar Kapan

On January 30, 2017, Rafayel Ghazaryan signed a contract[16] with FC Gandzasar Kapan. During the 2017-2018 season, Ghazaryan became the holder of the silver medal [17], finishing second in the 2017–18 Armenian Premier League, and won the Armenian Cup. The team also participated in the UEFA Europa League, playing against FK Podgorica. He played 22 matches and scored 1 goal.

FC Noah

On July 1, 2018, Ghazaryan signed a contract[18] [19] with FC Noah. He played 10 matches for the team and scored 2 goals. After that, he transferred to FC Alashkert.

FC Alashkert return

In 2019, Ghazaryan returned to FC Alashkert for 6 months and won [20] the Armenian Super Cup against FC Gandzasar. [21]

FC Lokomotiv Yerevan

On March 5, 2019, Ghazaryan [22] signed a contract with FC Lokomotiv Yerevan

He served as the team captain and leader, playing 37 matches and scoring 7 goals.

FC West Armenia

On August 1, 2020, Ghazaryan signed a two-year contract with FC West Armenia, the last club of the talented and strong footballer. He was one of the team's key players, playing 28 matches and scoring 9 goals.The renowned footballer Ghazaryan announced his retirement in September 2024.

Personal life

Ghazaryan and his wife Lusine attended the same class in school. They got married [23] on October 10, 2013. They have twin boys.
