The Shakespeare and Co. Festival takes place each summer in Tournon and Tain, France, since 2000.
It is gathering the young people from the Sycomore Theatre and other young amateurs to stage Shakespeare's plays.
This project created by young people for young people to share an experience of classic literature, to discover different artistic practices, and to give birth to new projects and partnerships.
The Shakespeare Festival was created in July 2000 on the initiative of the Sycomore theatre and its two founders, Jean-Pierre Guille and Christophe Marachain, with the aim of showing that the English playwright's texts resonate with our contemporary society.
Since 2002, the Sycomore theater and Theater im Polygon, a young German troupe from Fellbach, have been working together to write and produce plays.
Since 2006, music has been an integral part of the Festival's programming, with live bands bringing an international artistic dimension to the Festival.
For its 20th anniversary, the Shakespeare Festival has taken on the extension “& Co” to include authors of classical literature, such as Victor Hugo and Molière, alongside William Shakespeare.
The festival welcomes groups from all over the world : Morocco, Scotland, Colombia, Iran, England, Singapore, Georgia, Romania, Algeria, the USA, Russia, etc. This brings professional companies to the Festival, completing the cultural and human architecture of this theatrical encounter.
The Festival is actively supported by the municipalities of Tournon and Tain.
Marion Ott is an actress and a director. She arrived at the Shakespeare & Co. Festival in 2011 and has been co-directing the Festival since 2021.
