The First Battle of Tsushima Fields was fought between the armies of the Chōshū Domain and the Tsushima-Fuchū Domain on 23 May 1865 during the prelude to the Boshin war. The battle concluded in a decisive victory for the Tsushima-Fuchū and the daimyo of the Chōshū Domain, Mōri Tanefusa was shot down by Sō Shinsaku, the Tsushima-Fuchū daimyo, during the battle.
