This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
This page in a nutshell: If you have a dispute with the community or its members, seek mediation or talk to the person directly. If you chose to use physical force or threats of physical force to resolve disputes, you will not be allowed to remain free until after you are released from prison. |
Rather than threatening to beat someone up, you should always first attempt to resolve disputes with civility and by hiring a mediator or arbitrator if necessary.
If you must beat someone up, we cannot prevent you from doing so ourselves. However, we may call the police as they may be able to stop you directly. If your issue involves Jimbo Wales himself, please be aware that you may wind up on the wrong end of the fight.
If you make physical threats or take physical action over a dispute, you may be locked up so that the matter is not exacerbated through other channels. Users who kill others will typically be locked up until the other party comes back to life.
Physical threats should be reported to law enforcement or your personal threat management team.
What is not an illegal threat
[edit]A polite, coherent complaint or a request to return borrowed goods is not a threat.
Background to the policy
