Template:IRI Train/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template is used to generate an external link to a web page for any type of train service (Express or slow passenger service) in the India Rail Info. It should only be used in the "external links" section of an article.

Usage

[edit]

The required parameter is the ID number. The template then uses the article title as the anchor text:

* {{IRI Train | ID }}
* {{IRI Train | id= ID }}

To have the link text be other than the article name, use second parameter:

* {{IRI Train | ID | Name }}
* {{IRI Train | id= ID | name= Name }}

This is necessary when adding an India Rail Info link to an article about any type of train service (Express or slow passenger service).

Detailed instructions

[edit]
  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
  2. Go to Indiarailinfo.com and search for the railway station you want in "train" search bar (say, Tamil Nadu Express, for example. Hover the cursor over the name of the train from the auto dropdown list. Click the first one and then click "Go" and you will reach https://indiarailinfo.com/train/1611/)
  3. Copy only the numerals (here, "1611"), omitting the alphabets and characters in the link.
  4. Replace "ID" in the template code with the number
    1. For the first option above, you'll then have
      * {{IRI Train|1611}} resulting in:
      Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page "Tamil Nadu Express", use the second option:
    2. Replace "ID" with the number and "Name" with "Tamil Nadu Express"
      * {{IRI Train | 1611|Tamil Nadu Express }} results in:
