This is wrong

Why is this article called (and stylised) 'WWE Friday Night SmackDown!'? Dlaehere 17:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Is that not the name of the show? Mshake3 (talk) 17:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I guess. I was thinking it should be called 'WWE SmackDown', like WWE Raw (although it's not written in upper case letters, and doesn't say Monday Night, which is now understandable when you consider the name of the show/logo and all). Speaking of which, there is no longer an exclaimation mark when SmackDown is concerned, not in text or logo[1] - so something should definitely be done about that. It also makes articles incoherent when editors stylise it that way. Dlaehere 17:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Not in the logo? OK... [2] -- bulletproof 3:16 21:41, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
The official name is "WWE Firday Night SmackDown!", all you have to do is watch SmackDown to see that. TJ Spyke 21:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Then the other article should be called 'WWE RAW'. Dlaehere 22:07,

2 January 2008 (UTC)

It is called "WWE Raw"... Gavyn Sykes (talk) 22:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
No because "RAW" is only referring to the "brand" of WWE. "Raw" is name of the "television show", like "Friday Night SmackDown!" and "Extreme Championship Wrestling".TrUcO9311 TaLk / SiGn 22:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
The new logo on the show now only says SmackDown, so should the title be changed accordingly? There still seems to be some confusion in WWE sources though, with the website still calling it Friday Night SmackDown! RatzaChewy (talk) 16:57, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

The oficial name of Smackdown, as of February 2006 is "WWE Friday Night Smackdown", ther is no loger a "!" in the logo, and you can't tell, by the logo, that you have t the top of the page, becuase it is nearly two years out of date! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.18.2.45 (talk) 18:50, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

How about actually watching SmackDown! for once? [3] -- bulletproof 3:16 19:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Woh... This changes everything. Did anyone notice anything different on this Friday's edition of SmackDown (hint, hint)? -- bulletproof 3:16 07:29, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
The logo no longer says "Friday Night." At the same time, the announcers still refered to it as Friday Night Smackdown. Mshake3 (talk) 19:14, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually if you notice [4] that the SmackDown! logo DOES still say Friday Night but no longer contains the !. BUT DOES include the WWE logo before Friday Night. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crash Underride (talkcontribs) 23:09, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

About the set

This is bugging me, why does the photo of the Smackdown set say "June 2006-Present," when the set debuted in August of 2001? 65.189.210.173 (talk) 10:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Because it's not the same set that debuted in August 2001. This set includes the LED screen hanging from above (which is lowered down for ECW tapings) and no longer prominently features the stage and ramp used in it's debut and few years after it. The set in it's current form has been used since the ECW brand debuted in June 2006.-- bulletproof 3:16 15:39, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
But that screen is not part of the Smackdown set, it's hanging independently of the set. The ramp is not part of a set, it's part of the stage; the stage and set are two different things. By that logic, the Raw page should list all of the dates that they didn't use a stage, as well as the England, Italy, Japan and Saturday Night's Main Event sets. The set itself has remained unchanged, save for the WWE logo, since 2001.65.189.210.173 (talk) 11:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
No, the ramp and screen ARE part of the set. Also, the date is for the rgular set, not the occasion different one they use for international trips of SNME/Supershow editions. TJ Spyke 23:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
The ramp thing, I believe, is matter of opinion, so it's pretty useless to argue, and I understand what the date IS, but what I'm saying is that if, in terms of Wikipedia, removing the ramp is considered a set change for Smackdown, so should the other, complete set changes. I just think that it should be uniformly documented one way or the other, and that the date of June 2006 may be misleading to some. Of course, this entire discussion will be null and void by next Friday. 65.189.210.173 (talk) 09:56, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
The ramp and stage has been gone since mid 2003, when Los Guerreros began coming out in a car. I'm sure the date refers to when the LCD screen was removed, which was done because the ECW set was being placed there. Mshake3 (talk) 19:25, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

BTW, it should also be noted that next week, all three brands will use the same set. Mshake3 (talk) 19:25, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Best of 2007

Why is the best of 2007 considered a special episode...they do one of those every year for each show. If it to be included, then you'd have to include all the other ones they've done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.162.117.183 (talk) 02:50, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Good point. NOthing special about that. Mshake3 (talk) 03:16, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
And to everyone who insists on keeping that show in, is that a reason this one paticular "best of" episode is included, but none of the other ones are? Mshake3 (talk) 05:03, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I think it's because we just added in the list of special episodes last year. If you have the dates for the previous ones, add them in (if not, I will look for them when I get a chance). TJ Spyke 08:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
And when creating this list of special episodes, "best of" episodes were the furthest from everyone's mind. Mshake3 (talk) 15:38, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

WWE Friday Night SmackDown!WWE SmackDown — WWE have finally dropped the exclamation mark last night on the logo featured on the TV show's on-screen graphics and apron. (Some of it can be seen in the new set's photos) There's now officially no reason to keep the exclamation mark. — Oakster  Talk  09:41, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Just because the show names are Friday Night Smackdown and Monday Night Raw doesn't mean that you have to change ECW to tuesday Night ECW, And Tazz and Joey Styles hardly ever say Tuesday Night ECW. I don't think they have released an HD logo yet.TrUCo9311 18:38, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

With the HD move, SmackDown! now has a new logo. Similar to the way ECW changed their logo. Shall we update the logo? It probably doesn't appear on the SmackDown! website, but it does appear in the intro movie for the show.--TrUCo9311 02:31, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

What intro? Mshake3 (talk) 03:00, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Like the introduction to the show (the opening video/them), the logo appears there. That's the reason why we changed the ECW logo.--TrUCo9311 03:27, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Did you even watch the show tonight? Unless they aired it in the middle somewhere, there was no intro! Mshake3 (talk) 03:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but go to WWE.com, and look at the SD! results and you will see a different logo, its more transparent than the current one that is in the article.--TrUCo9311 03:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

According to sources WWE had been negotiating with CW and other networks for a few weeks. I think you are right, maybe WWE thinks it can get a new network to air SmackDown on Thursdays again (although I like it being on Friday since there isn't much else on TV, while Thursday has multiple programs I like to watch), plus i'm sure international viewers didn't like hearing it called Friday Night (although they got used to it, like how people in attendance at SmackDown tapings have to hear the announcers talk about something happening "in 2 days" since they tape 3 days in advance and have to do it in mind with US TV viewers). Was it me, or does it seem like WWE slowed the SmackDown theme down for that new intro? I remember it being faster paced before. TJ Spyke 08:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
The music was placed over the video during editing meaning that it wasn't the actual sound recorded. The music you heard was the old theme used before moving to Friday nights. (The one found on the "Themeaddict" CD)-- bulletproof 3:16 08:57, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

It's official, wwe.com also posted a press release announcing the deal with MyNetworkTV. This in non-Wikipedia related, but THANK GOD. I was so damn sick of the CW airing SD at midnight or Saturday so they could air a damn Yankees game instead (which was never a problem on UPN. When The WB and UPN merged, they took over the former WB affiliate in my area and the WB affiliate here airs New York Yankees baseball games. MyNetworkTV took over the old UPN affiliate. This will also let more people watch here since in my area The CW is a cable channel while MyNetworkTV is a basic TV channel). TJ Spyke 16:03, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Title

I moved the page to WWE SmackDown! because the "friday night" has been dropped. I was going to move it to WWE Smackdown because the old title violated WP:MOSTM (like the article WWE Raw) but it wouldn't let me.  wwesocks  04:38, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Well actually they use the "friday night" name alot. Look here [11], they call it "Friday Night" SmackDown!. Also before you make a move like this, please discuss before you do so.TrUCo9311 04:43, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Would you please consider renaming the page "WWE SmackDown!"? The reason why I am asking you to do this is because the "Friday Night" was dropped from the title. AdamDeanHall (talk) 23:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, quote from the comment above " they use the "friday night" name alot. Look here [12], they call it "Friday Night" SmackDown!."--TrUCo9311 23:37, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Why do people keep saying the Friday Night part has been dropped? The only thing that has changed is the logo. That's all! Nothing else! Mshake3 (talk) 05:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

But Raw is nearly always refered to as Monday Night Raw on air, but the article is still named WWE Raw. Same as ECW being refered to as ECW on SciFi on air, but the article being named 'Extreme Championship Wrestling (WWE)'. The other articles are named after the brand, not the show, so it should change to 'WWE SmackDown!' or 'WWE Smackdown' (if you want to stay in the guidelines) accordingly.RatzaChewy (talk) 17:07, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
The guidline you refered to actually says it is a judgement call with words like SmackDown since it could otherwise be used as two words Smack Down with a space. LessThanClippers (talk) 19:39, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Hmm if we are to follow what they are called by WWE on the above link that I posted, we should rename the ECW article to ECW on Sci Fi, because in the results its says "On ECW on Sci Fi, Ric Flair....etc." Because in that link they call RAW simply Raw, thus we calling it WWE Raw, they call SmackDown!, Friday Night SmackDown!, thus we calling it WWE Friday Night SmackDown!, and they call ECW, ECW on Sci Fi, but for some reason we just call it ECW. In my view, the articles of Raw and SmackDown! read more like television shows and ECW reads more like a brand.--TrUCo9311 20:54, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Folks, think about this for a second. Outside of a new logo, has anything changed with the way the show has been promoted, both in WWE, on the CW, and beyond with the switch to HD? Mshake3 (talk) 00:06, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Nope. And Mshake I am agreeing with you 110%.TrUCo9311 00:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Why are people ignoring the comment by RatzaChewy. It is absolutely correct. I will state it again and read it it's the truth They rarley refer to it as Friday Night SmackDown! anymore and if they do it doesn't matter because it is not in the graphics. It is exactly just like WWE Raw being called Monday Night Raw on air. So why is the WWE Raw article not called WWE Monday Night Raw?. The brand is Smackdown, not Friday Night SmackDown just like the brand ECW on there website refering to it as ECW on Sci Fi. I don't think there is any reason to not change it. (Also when it's changed there should be no explination mark or a capital D. Because that is violation of Wikipedia: MOSTM. Which is like WWE Raw not being called WWE RAW.) Thanks  wwesocks  22:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, they almost alway Friday Night SmackDown, only the logo dropped it. WWE.com and the announcer still say FRS. It is not like RAW because the website says just Raw and the only person who regularly calls it by the old name is JR. Also having it "SmackDown" instead of "Smackdown" is not even close to being a MOSTM, unless you think WrestleMania and SummerSlam are violating it too (hint: none of them are). TJ Spyke 01:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

What about the exclaimation mark?  wwesocks  06:38, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

None of the logos use the exclamation mark anymore, including the Friday Night one on the website, so it's safe to say that it should be dropped. Once again though, we still need to decide whether or not it should be SmackDown or Friday Night Smackdown. RatzaChewy (talk) 19:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Move protection

I have move protected this page for 1 month per WP:PROTECT#Move protection because of the recent move-war. The renaming debate should proceed through WP:RM and this talk page. Please remember that the move button is for uncontested moves; if a name is contested a consensus should first be acheived on the talk page or at WP:RM. Repeatedly moving a page due a naming dispute is highly disruptive. Of course, protection can be lifted early if a clear consensus emerges or the issue is resolved at WP:RM. Citing SmackDown's move to MyNetworkTV

I have tried several times to cite MyNetworkTV as the new home for the program. However, a member of the project has removed the submission and has told me not to submit the information. At first, this member stated that the project had reached a "consensus" that the new network shouldn't be cited in the "Original channel" section of the article, but no consensus was found. I feel that it would be highly informative to cite MyNetworkTV as the new network. I hope that this conflict can be resolved, and even more so, I hope that the submission can remain in the article, being that it is completely, 100% factual. Thanks. I wanted to add a slight revision to my last comment on here. I want to apologize if anyone saw my opinion on this matter as offensive or hostile. I tend to get a little passionate about what I feel is right. So if you sense any hostility in my argument in the previous discussion, please take it with a grain of salt. I just want to inform. Thanks again. Bat86 (talk) 10:50, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

No, per WP:CRYSTAL, we are not a newsite, this is an encyclopedia, the move won't be added until it occurs. News, such as the announcement of the move is all that should be noted in the article.--TrUCo-X 18:11, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually since the move has been officially announced by both MyNetworkTV and the WWE it technically doesn't fall under WP:CRYSTAL. Future speculation and unverified claims fall under WP:CRYSTAL. Smackdown's move to MyNetworkTV is verifiable due to various first and third party sources. Since the move has been officially announced it should be included in the article as it does not violate WP:CRYSTAL. Here is a bit from WP:CRYSTAL that is relevant to this discussion: Individual scheduled or expected future events should only be included if the event is notable and almost certain to take place. The move is varifiable by sources, it is certain to take place at this point. MyNetworkTV has already scheduled Smackdown for Fridays as part of their tentative schedule. So the move can be noted in a nutshell as it does not violate WP:CRYSTAL. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 18:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
