Worth mentioning

[edit]

That Harold Holt disappeared while swimming? Is this perhaps why a US navy vessel was named after him?--Senor Freebie (talk) 14:38, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's probably irrelevant - the ship was laid down about 5 months after Holt died, and it was probably just a mark of respect at the passing of an allied leader during wartime. It may have had something to do with him being lost at sea, however, so if you can find a decent source, make the edit. Dallas (talk) 09:26, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I served on HEH and was told that Prime Minister Harold E. Holt was a staunch ally and friend of US President Richard Nixon, thus the commemorative naming of a US Naval vessel. 2602:306:38A2:21B0:18A:703B:8CEA:7040 (talk) 19:10, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He was a friend and ally of LBJ not Nixon. Also as an aside Holt himself wouldn't have referred to himself as Harold E Holt. Very few Australians use their middle initial like that. Tigerman2005 (talk) 23:51, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Holt collision with another ship in 1976 at Pearl Harbor

[edit]

This collision is not recorded in any records. I was on board when it happened. I am trying to find out the name of the ship we ran into. Mrpricklepants2u (talk) 02:42, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
