[edit]Why it is called as its Turkish name? I think we should move it. --ANONYMOUS USER2003 (talk) 18:54, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Turkish Petroleum Corporation → TPAO – This article was moved from its long time title Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı to the current title with the move summary 'English wikipedia not turkish'. There was no move discussion beforehand. While it is true that the English Wikipedia should prefer English name, there are also other policies and guidelines such as WP:COMMONNAME. It is not a rule to translate non-English names. The company itself does not translate its name. Also, the translated name Turkish Petroleum Corporation has ambiguous meaning. At the same time, the full Turkish name Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı is not the common name in English. The most common name seems to be TPAO. Of course, it is in contradiction with the MOS:ABBR guidelines; however, it seems that WP:COMMONNAME as a policy has a priority over the guidelines. Therefore I propose to move this article to TPAO. - Restore we shouldn't reward these kind of moves with starting RM from a bad result. @Beagel: please undo yourself and start the RM from the stable title. FWIW Türkiye Petrolleri AO would be the preferred title. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:58, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
Who calls it Turkiye Petroleri Anonim Ortackilgi? Most of the people call it TPAO or Turkish Petroleum Corporation. These are the common names. --ANONYMOUS USER2003 (talk) 15:47, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
I dont think that I have problem with TPAO as a new title but whom can type turkish and thats why I moved it to Turkish Petroleum Corporation. It has been a common name amongst articles related to the company/corporation so I made a decision to move it to that new title. You may move it to TPAO but not to its previous name or Turkiye Petroleri AO.
I want stand versus the WP:COMMONNAME policy as there are two common names: TPAO and Turkish Petroleum Corporation.

- I am really not sure what is the right procedure in this case. As the move was certainly controversial, the best option would be if ANONYMOUS USER2003 reverts their move themselves. Beagel (talk) 17:40, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Should I rename it TPAO right now. --ANONYMOUS USER2003 (talk) 18:50, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
I think the discussion comes to an end. I don't have problem of moving it to TPAO. ANONYMOUS USER2003 (talk) 18:57, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
