Editing synopsis section
[edit]To avoid any issues with editing the synopsis section, I thought I would bring the idea here to the talk page before investing a bunch of time. To me, the section seems very long and bloated with minor detail. Not having any experience with how long is too long, I went looking for any policy, guidelines, and manuals of style. While I could not find anything specifically about live theatre, there is a manual of style for films; this seemed to be the best option, verses television or novels. In the MOS it says "Plot summaries for feature films should be between 400 and 700 words" and "The plot summary is an overview of the film's main events, so avoid minutiae like dialogue, scene-by-scene breakdowns, individual jokes, and technical detail." Also, is a guideline on Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary which says of a plot summary, "It should not cover every scene and every moment of a story" and "Wikipedia is not a substitute for the original." A review of the length of the Synopsis section shows it is over 1650 words long; to fit within the most apt MOS, it should be trimmed by more the 50%. I would appreciate any comments or issues before spending the editing time. Thanks. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 19:00, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- I have done a draft here User:Jordan 1972/sandbox that reduces the size to 894 words, a 46% reduction. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 19:52, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, all. Just to answer one question that Jordan raised, the quidelines for Musical theatre are at [1]. The section on the synopsis says: "It should not be overly long or detailed nor include a scene-by-scene description. A two-act musical's synopsis should be between 800 and 1100 words, with leeway for an unusually complicated plot. A longer synopsis may be needed for a musical theatre work than for other media to provide context for the songs and to name the principal musical numbers." I will not further comment on this discussion, nor on the synopsis itself. Flami72 (talk) 19:57, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Great stuff Jordan 1972, it reads much better without all the explicit detail.Mark E (talk) 07:23, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

- Based on comments made here and in the section above about the specific changes and the general idea of reduction in size, I have made the edits to the Synopsis section. I will be off-line for a week as of later today, so wanted to just get this completed. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 13:47, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- Looks good: it's clear and succinct. Thanks. Barte (talk) 13:53, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

AJ Holmes & Australian Company
[edit]AJ has left the Australian company (see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVowUupAkSf/?taken-by=bookofmormonau & https://www.instagram.com/p/BVvyjygg1BX/?taken-by=a.j.holmes) and was replaced by Nyk Bielak (see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVoZvBBA6pu/?taken-by=a.j.holmes & http://bookofmormonmusical.com.au/cast/). Please stop changing the Current Cast section back to AJ!! Broadwaygenius (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:34, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- Why is 'Current casts' even a thing? It's not encyclopedic. Boneymau (talk) 09:48, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
- Because it causes a lot of users to get "upset" when you try and remove them Mark E (talk) 13:06, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Oh well, I guess no harm is done, as long as someone is keeping 'Current casts' up to date. Boneymau (talk) 00:54, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

3rd national tour?
[edit]The "Original casts" section now shows a 3rd national tour. But it's not mentioned elsewhere. Does it exist? Are there currently two U.S. touring companies? Barte (talk) 13:43, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

Europe Tour
[edit]Lots of this para sounds like it has already happened, but as of March 2020 it's actually just an {{Advert}} for some potential forthcoming dates. Why anyone would want to sit in close contact for two hours with several thousand other people spluttering with laughter while a pandemic flu-type virus with no current antidote is circling the globe is anyone's guess, but I would to tend to re-write the para in the future tense. PS I really enjoyed the show when I went to see it a couple of years ago. MinorProphet (talk) 21:19, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
Spanish production is a replica, not a non-replica
[edit]I saw both the West End and the Spanish productions and they are the same production. The Spanish version had localized some jokes, but it is still the same production. 146.109.8.1 (talk) 10:50, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
