Punisher
[edit]The fictional decades old anti hero, Marvel Comic's Frank Castle the Punisher, lost his family in a mobster shootout in Sheep Meadow. This should be noted. Lots42 (talk) 05:20, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Comments - nice article.
- "located ... located" probably can lose the second one altogether.
- "with sheep. The sheep," unfortunate quick repeat.
- You relink Greensward Plan but not Central Park in the first section of prose?
- First two sentences of "Construction" section could be reversed to make more logical flow.
- "two feet" you've converted everything so far...
- Could link New Jersey.
- "disruptive boulders" what?
- "sixteen feet" see above.
- "the most costly construction" can you quantify that and inflate to 2018 $ please?
- " were loath to" in BritEng that would be "loathe"...
- "Southdown" is piped to a redirect.
- "Calvert Vaux.[13][15][14]" order.
- "or "the Green".[18][13] " ditto.
- " meadow's perimeter.[18][13] " thrice.
- "certain time periods" could be "certain times"?
- "The park's patronage increasingly came to include the middle and working class. Strict regulations, such as those against public gatherings, were gradually eased." consider merging, this is starting to read a little clunky.
- "the high number of tennis permits" not sure you need "high" and it reads clunky as is for me.
- "to the site of the sheepfold" probably would work with just "there".
- "successful, however.[26]" not sure the point in "however".
- "Sheep Meadow.[28][29]:984[30][3]:106–109" order.
- Link Great Depression.
- "Conservancy.[14][34][28] " order.
- "resodding" do we all know what that means?
- "the city began renovating the meadow and installing a sprinkler system in September 1979." why ing ing, why not "renovated, installed"?
- "Once the lawn was reopened, team sports were banned from Sheep Meadow " I don't think another repeat of Sheep Meadow is needed here?
- "The project was ... The project..." repetitive.
- "Mineral Springs" section, should that be "Mineral Springs Pavilion"? If not, why is it capitalised?
- "Seen in 2019" caption is not particularly informative, especially given the lack of whatever it is I'm supposed to be seeing!
- "Now the open ..." see WP:PRECISELANG.
- "each day[28][59] between April and October each year. " why there, why not at the end of the sentence?
- "Sheep Meadow is heavily used, and in 2009, it was used by 30,000" used, used... repetitive.
- "the meadow saw three million people" perhaps replace people with visitors or something to confirm it wasn't just a field looking at loads of people.
- "For instance, in 1912, ..." I don't recall ever reading a Wikipedia article with "for instance" in it.
- "playground contests[17][64] and model airplane races.[17] " just put [64] at the end...
- "celebrations In 1916, " period needed.
- " Stonewall Riots" no capital r.
- "A concert" not good enough for a caption, where, when, who?
- "Pocahontas" should be in italics and point to the right target (Pocahontas (1995 film)).
- "it was nevertheless a major, if temporary, draw " can that be quantified?
- "Current recurring events" probably best to just make it "Recurring events".
- " September 11, 2001 attacks in 2001" um, perhaps just "September 11 attacks..."
- "TSW-7A portable control tower" what is one of those?
- "Production activity" what is that?
- "11 am " -> "11 a.m." per MOS.
- "with actual sheep" no need for "actual".
- Avoid SHOUTING in the ref titles.
- No spaced hyphens in the ref titles per MOS:DASH.
That's it for a quick review, so I'll put it on hold while we go through the preceding comments. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:18, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- The Rambling Man, thanks for the review. I fixed most of these issues, except one. I can't find a reliable source for the construction cost of the meadow, and the source doesn't say. epicgenius (talk) 20:51, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- A few replies:
" were loath to" in BritEng that would be "loathe"...
- Yes, but in American "loathe" means "hate".
- Likewise in BritEng, and it makes sense "to be loathe to do something" is to hate to do it. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 07:36, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
"Mineral Springs" section, should that be "Mineral Springs Pavilion"?
- It's capitalized since it is a proper noun."TSW-7A portable control tower"
- an air control tower. I removed the exact model number as unnecessary. epicgenius (talk) 20:54, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm more than happy with the article, it's a shame we can't source an RS for the cost, but c'est la vie. I'm promoting to GA. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 08:53, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Improved to Good Article status by Epicgenius (talk). Self-nominated at 13:38, 11 September 2019 (UTC).
- The article is newly promoted to GA, neutral, and well referenced. Because of the huge number of sources I ran the article through Earwig's copyvio detector; it showed a close match to a source from the NY Daily News, meaning part of the "Use in media" section should be reworded (see the comparison here). I much prefer ALT1, which I think is more interesting to a broad audience, and the hook facts are cited. Also waiting on a QPQ (pinging Epicgenius). 97198 (talk) 11:08, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- @97198: Thanks for the review. I have done a QPQ, and also added an ALT2 - see what you think about that. epicgenius (talk) 14:37, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Epicgenius: Do you feel strongly about combining the two articles into one hook? In my opinion the individual hooks are certainly interesting enough to stand on their own, but if you would prefer to combine them that's up to you. I'll hold off on giving this one the tick until we've decided, so it doesn't get accidentally promoted in the meantime. 97198 (talk) 07:23, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- @97198: I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. I just threw out ALT2 as a suggestion, since it's interesting that Central Park had these two features (to me at least). If you think these would be better as two separate hooks, that's also fine. epicgenius (talk) 14:09, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- Approving the original hook and ALT1. If somebody else wants to review the Dairy nomination and likes the combined hook, I'm also happy with ALT2. 97198 (talk) 01:24, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
Sheep Meadow premier of Pocahontas
[edit]Your article references the Disney premier of the movie Pocahontas in Sheep Meadow. This is an error. The premier was indeed in Central Park, but the location was The Great Lawn, not Sheep Meadow.
I was there.
