Should there not be a link to analgesics, since "pain relief" is a very common phrase and indeed how I came across this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.32.126.11 (talk) 14:48, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
See there (for example).
Can anybody write an article Relief (minerals)?

Relief (replacement)
[edit]Does relief not go beyond the meanings suggested? How about when one military unit "relieves" another?

Departure from a flat surface
[edit]Suggest that a better section title would be Projection from a flat surface

relief of siege
[edit]Per WP:PTM, I do not believe that the siege entries belong on this dab. There is no significant risk of confusion or reference with any of them. The meaning is adequately covered by the Wiktionary entry. Nick Number (talk) 01:16, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- They are, as it says, merely a few examples of the many examples we cover. It was wrong to remove the initial entry from the page when we have so many specific examples covered. Johnbod (talk) 01:25, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- They seem to be exactly the sort of entries mentioned in WP:PTM - partial title matches which would not be confused with the subject of the disambiguation page. Nobody is going to search for "relief" when they are looking for the article Siege of Orléans. Per WP:DABNOT, "a disambiguation page is not a list of dictionary definitions". Its purpose is to distinguish among Wikipedia articles. For other meanings which do not have their own articles, a link to the Wiktionary entry is sufficient. - Interesting that Dutch Wikipedia has ontzet and German Entsatz as articles in their own right TobyJ (talk) 06:16, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- One could certainly imagine Relief (military) or something, which rather proves my point. If it existed it would certainly belong here. I completely fail to see why someone looking for a well-known relief would not search for it - hence the redirects to some sieges, though you've no doubt noticed that some like Relief of Ladysmith have their own articles. What is "the subject of the disambiguation page"? It is all the different articles relating to different meanings of the word "relief"! Johnbod (talk) 23:35, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- As you yourself just said, the purpose is to disambiguate among articles. There is not presently an article about the meaning in question, and personally I don't see it meriting one. It seems to be adequately covered by the siege article and the Wiktionary entry. If there were such an article then I would endorse its inclusion here, but until then I think the partial title matches should be removed. I'll reiterate that there is no way that anyone who is looking for information about the lifting of a particular siege would search simply on the word "relief". Nick Number (talk) 01:19, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well allow me to reiterate that that is nonsense. If people knew exactly what they were looking for we wouldn't hardly need disam pages. Johnbod (talk) 01:50, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

- I'm sorry, but it appears that all these "Relief of..." articles should be on (if there aren't already on) List of sieges. I get what the person that wants them on this disamb. page is trying to say, but some of the Wiki-links right now (like Relief of Orléans, Relief of Gibraltar, Relief of Lucknow & Relief of Mafeking) really just re-direct to Siege articles anyway. Please add the siege articles in question to the above list & be done with it. Maybe there's somewhere else that they can go that I'm not familiar with either. Partial matches galore
[edit]The entries I deleted from "Lifting-up from a flat surface" do not stand on their own as "relief"; they have to have another word or words attached to make any sense, hence WP:PTM applies.
Nearly everything in the "Lifting back of a burden or weight" is not even that close. Most provide it, but they're not synonymous with relief. A relief pitcher is a reliever, not relief. Debt relief is the only one that might be acceptable in "See also".
All of the specific military siege reliefs must go. It even states they are "examples", which don't qualify. Possibly one entry could be left linking to siege, though that borders on a word definition. Clarityfiend (talk) 13:03, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
- I concur with the deletions, per the previous discussion on the "relief of siege" entries. Nick Number (talk) 16:02, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
- To start out (per here & above), I got rid of the obvious military siege links that merely re-directed to "Siege of..." Wikipedia articles. Guy1890 (talk) 20:55, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
- Nobody's come up with any reason to keep what I deleted before as far as I can see, so I'm going to take them out again. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:13, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
