the time-constant

[edit]

The value 171000 years (looks percisely) mentioned in this article is very different from 50000000 in [1], 20000000 in my book, >1000000 in [2]. But in [3] it is only 10000. The uncertainty is very large (about four orders). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.49.12.197 (talk) 06:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming to Radiative zone.

[edit]

This article has 7 references and one image. All of these sources agree: the zone is called the Radiative Zone.

  • the image in the article: Radiative zone.
  • "...and therefore to the development of a radiative zone inside the core." Pols, Onno Rudolf (2011). Stellar Structure and Evolution. Astronomical Institute Utrecht.
  • "...as the Radiative zone..." Ryan, Sean G.; Norton, Andrew J. (2010). Stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. p. 19. ISBN 978-0-521-19609-3.

According to the Wikipedia policy on Wikipedia:Article titles: "Generally, article titles are based on what the subject is called in reliable sources." I don't see any discussion the talk page history concerning this name. I think it was just incorrect from the get go. Radiation zone makes no sense, as the other zones are eg convective. Johnjbarton (talk) 22:19, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As further evidence that this article is misnamed, consider the top hits in Google scholar:
  • radiative zone:
    • "The dynamics of the solar radiative zone"
    • Bounds on the Magnetic Fields in the Radiative Zone of the Sun
    • Magnetic fields and non-uniform rotation in stellar radiative zones
    • Turbulent transport in radiative zones of stars
  • radiation zone]
    • A new population of ultra‐relativistic electrons in the outer radiation zone (about van allen belt)
    • A revised look at relativistic electrons in the Earth's inner radiation zone and slot region
    • A New Perspective on Earth's Radiation Zone
    • The assessment of radiation zone determination in RDE for radiation workers
So don't think Radiation zone can even be used in this article as a synonym. Johnjbarton (talk) 23:42, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
