Talk:Pimenova
Target for this redirect
[edit]An IP editor (or editors; unclear if it's the same individual with different IPs from time to time) has repeatedly changed this redirect to point to Kristina Pimenova rather than the Pimenov disambiguation page. A number of registered editors (including me) have reverted this change; in addition to me, there's Materialscientist, Marianna251 and Guido den Broeder (who is indef-blocked, so I won't bother name-checking). (I'm going to ping WikiProject Disambiguation for views, too.)
Although I've reverted this along with the other editors named, it occurs to me that Kristina Pimenova is likely the better target. I realize that Pimenov and Pimenova are really the same name. But Kristina is the only Pimenova listed on the Pimenov DAB page. It seems clear that if a reader is searching for Pimenova, they are almost certainly looking for Kristina Pimenova, and not one of the Pimenovs. Thus, they would be better served if Pimenova redirected to Kristina Pimenova (which in turn would need to have a hatnote, probably {{Redirect3|Pimenova|for other people with the surname Pimenov/Pimenova, see [[Pimenov]]}}).
It seems very doubtful to me that anyone searching on "Pimenova" would be likely to be looking for one of the Pimenovs rather than for Pimenova.
Therefore, notwithstanding that I have reverted this very edit in the past, I suggest that we redirect to Kristina Pimenova, with a hatnote back to Pimenov.

- Comment: Redirecting a surname to a single person doesn't make much sense to me, but a quick google search for "Pimenova" only showed results regarding Kristina Pimenova for several pages, so there's clearly an argument for changing the redirect. I reverted because this edit summary and the subsequent rapid self-reverts came across to me as purely disruptive, not because I have a strong opinion either way. Have there been any previous discussions on similar surnames? Marianna251TALK 23:11, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Redirecting a surname to a single person seems normal if it is clear that one person is the primary topic for that surname – see for example Ustvolskaya or Gubaidulina – but I'm not sure if that applies in this case. Is Kristina Pimenova comparably notable? I very much doubt it. --Deskford (talk) 23:39, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Well in this case, she's the only person with that surname with a Wikipedia article; so I'd say, yeah.
- Put another way, if someone searches on "Pimenova", there is a near 100% chance that the article they seek is Kristina Pimenova. TJRC (talk) 22:19, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
