Article Title
[edit]Why is an article that seems to be an attack on Cuba's economic system titled "peak oil"? I was expecting some information on Cuba's oil production, but I don't see any mention of any old or future oil production in Cuba. Mulp (talk) 05:29, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Merger
[edit]So far there's one vote (at Talk:Special Period) for merging these two articles. I'll count me as a second vote. I'll give it a little longer to see if there's any opposition, and then start the merger. NJGW (talk) 17:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Theres nothing in here about peak oil in cuba. Nothing about Venezulas current oil subsides to cuba, Cubas electricity production (89% oil) Economy of Cuba This article only mentions oil during the special peroid (which started 20 years ago, long before the days of 'peak oil') and even then its a unsourced pro govt POV slant. Either change it to a banlaced article about what Cuba's current state is (verifibly) and what its attempting to do with regard to the future (verifibly), or delete the whole thing. --mitrebox (talk) 19:56, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- So, does that mean you oppose or support merger into Special Period? NJGW (talk) 23:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- I oppose both merger and continued existence of this article. Everything in it is already covered in other Cuba articles and it doesn't cover what the article title suggests. It's like an article Manned Exploration of Mars talking only about Manned Exploration of the Moon and Exploration of Mars During the Early 90s.--mitrebox (talk) 16:39, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Looking at the history one can see how the article was created

Looking at The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, that article is about a 2006 documentary that is admittedly about how Cuba survived 'Artificial' peak oil. Peak Oil is when there isn't enough oil produced to meet demand. This case is that Cuba without Russia's support simply could not afford oil, which was at the time at one of the lowest prices in the last 30 years. Point is, the documentary that started this article was inaccurate in its title most likely using it to get additional press or press an agenda. Looking at the last version of the article before the move, someone gathered a whole bunch of content that was not really relevant to an article about a film. Most of it was unsourced and finally someone took the whole damn pile and spawned a new article. A large collection of words is not reason enough to warrant an article. --mitrebox (talk) 16:52, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- If there's no objections then, I'm going to start moving relevant material over to Special Period at the end of the week, and then leave this article as a redirect to that article. NJGW (talk) 19:50, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- No objection here your honor.--mitrebox (talk) 02:08, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
