Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that the stub Chiral model be merged as a section of this article, Non-linear sigma model. By far the most popular and influential n.l.sigma models are chiral models, and few people care to fuss out finer distinctions. Cuzkatzimhut (talk) 19:49, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- I guess I oppose, for multiple reasons: there's a distinction between the classical and the quantum models, the 1+1 classical model is solvable, the condensed matter people study the thing in 1+2 dimensions, i.e. not in the standard high-energy/nuclear physics setting. And there's lots of fuss over the finer distinctions in supergravity, where its the compactification of some of the extra dimensions. (I'm planning on expanding sigma model to cover these finer points. It's slow going.) I think it is reasonable to make this article about just the quantum properties of the sigma model. So all of these could get their own distinct articles. Of course, it's been 8 years since this propsal, so... 67.198.37.16 (talk) 23:48, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
