The expansion of this article in September 2012 drew heavily on the German Wikipedia article, which describes her as 'one of the unloved children of the Mann family'. I have now read her autobiography Vergangenes und Gegenwärtiges, Erinnerungen, and feel that this needs to be qualified. Her Erinnerungen describe a happy, loving and loved infancy – at least until the age of 8. Her later undisciplined, rebellious nature led to much criticism from her family, but criticism doesn't necessarily mean lack of love.
