Personal Life section

[edit]

In the section under "personal life," Johnson is described as having adopted a black son. There is a contradiction template where an editor has insinuated that Johnson lied about this, and that his timeline implies that he took the son in two years before marriage, in 1997. This is incorrect according to both citations: the New York Times article (published 2023) states that his son was adopted 24 years ago (1999), while in the second citation, the interview (published 2020), Johnson mentions that his son was adopted "almost 20 years ago," also putting the timeframe around 1999. This contradiction template is therefore not rooted in fact.97.144.254.174 (talk) 18:32, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I see the issue. I'll triple check the sources to see if there isn't actually a contradiction. ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:17, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbritti (& anon editor)
Totally agree that the "age 14" is not contradicted by any source, and whatever year it occurred is just nitpicking & WP:OR. And since the adopted son's race is Johnson's reason for repeating the anecdote (underscored by the NYT cite's headline), I added the qualifier & clarification "black youth" to the sentence about his age at the time.

As an FYI: I was going to also “ping” 2 of the “involved parties” from the October 2023 contradiction claim, but after I saw in this TalkPage’s Archive that @JM2023 noted that this exact topic was part of an Edit War (and also a half-hearted BLP Noticeboard submission) I now see that the “tagger” is both blocked & on the sock puppet list, and the other one “retired” after posting he was weary of being called-to-task on his contentious topic edits.
So, hopefully this matter is laid to rest. — DennisDallas (talk) 06:53, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! After the move on July 27, a significant amount of links now redirect to 'Mike Johnson (Louisiana politician)'. I cannot figure out how to fix a large percentage of them, as a template I thought would update has not, even though the link now correctly directs to 'Mike Johnson'. Can anyone with more expertise see the issue? Maybe User:RodRabelo7 since he moved it? Thanks. Debartolo2917 (talk) 00:14, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Debartolo2917: Thanks for handling most of that. I knocked out a few before it became clear that you were moving faster. Great work! ~ Pbritti (talk) 02:37, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Use of “American conspiracy theorists” category

[edit]

I understand that someone has put the article under the category American conspiracy theorists. However, there is no other mention of the word “conspiracy” or “conspiracist” in the article. Does this stem from his objections to certifying the 2020 presidential election, or something else? Unknown0124 (talk) 15:28, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In Electoral fraud in the United States, Mike Johnson is credited with the claim "widespread noncitizen voting is a threat" even though this is "entirely unsupported by evidence." Seems to me that this supports the claim that he is in fact a conspiracy theorist. Fabrickator (talk) 00:19, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
