But who was "Koster"?

[edit]

I have just seen an early 20th century text discussing the plant's spread, where the name is given as "Köster" (suggesting a German, which ties in with much of the earliest Western settlement of the Fijian archipelago being by Germans). Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 19:31, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clarified (and the misattribution corrected to identify the coffee plantation owner in question) thanks to some sleuthing by a Hawaiian biological survey in 2013.[1] Appropriately, as the original misidentification of the plant with Köster was done by an entomologist of the Hawaii Sugar Planters’ Association in 1906. – SJ + 00:24, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Miconia

[edit]

This genus should be moved to Miconia crenata. Clidemia has been synonymized.
