Article fixed.
[edit]I fixed the main article after some fool flooded it with repeated lol's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.195.15.6 (talk) 11:34, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Outer Heaven
[edit]Not sure that the two articles should be merged, OH certainly deserves its own page as its referenced by so many of the games(to different degrees). John.n-irl 14:05, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Actor?
[edit]In the cover art of the game, Snake was designed after actor Michael Biehn. The illustration is almost an exact reproduction from a shot from the first Terminator film. Given Biehn's popularity as an actor at the time of release and the popularity of the movies he had made at the time (Aliens, The Terminator), this idea is not too far-fetched, as Konami clearly would have seen the advantage of placing a popular character actor on the cover of a game which, if made into a movie, would clearly fit Biehn's typical roles.
Sounds an awful lot like whomever wrote this is trying to convince the reader, rather than simply give them the facts. Have any of the MGS staff ever confirmed that Biehn was the person they based Snake upon? Is this fact, or speculation? - Hayter 15:00, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- I just created and uploaded a side-by-side photo/box art comparison to the page. I agree that the writer of the original submission sounded like he was trying too hard, and I almost deleted most of it, since the comparison really speaks for itself. This is a case where you don't need an official confirmation from the original creators; all the proof you need is right there. There are far too many specific elements from the photo that appear in the box art for it to be coincidence. Druff 17:03, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Speculation. Most of the original character images from the first games looked like existing actors (big boss was practically a copy of Sean Connery), but they haven't said anything about why they did it; possibly for marketing purposes, or maybe just because they liked the actors. no one knows. Village Baka 00:09, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Speculate for yourself. [1]--Lamrock 05:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Engrish?
[edit]I'm a bit surprised there is no mention on this game's infamous Engrish moments. I feel asleep! The truck have started to move! 81.240.49.65 15:05, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed, the Engrish is certainly worth noting, particularly considering that those two lines you mentioned are somewhat famous. Perhaps not as much as "A winner is you", and certainly not as much as "All your base are belong to us", but notable nonetheless. I added it into the article, though perhaps clumsily. - furrykef (Talk at me) 16:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Character Images
[edit]Someone seems intent on keeping the images of the character's faces off this page. Might I ask why? Village Baka 00:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- It might be (I haven't checked) the liscencing. Some wikipedians use robots to remove links to images that have sub-standard source notes. Whilst in theory this is good, it means if an image is being used where the uploader simply didn't know how to add the correct tag, the image link gets broken even if it's okay to use the image. This seems likely, as I can't remember any of the images here being overly questionable. - Hayter 16:50, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the info. Village Baka 07:03, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
The unknown Metal Gear ports
[edit]I would like to add some information on the not-well-known NES Metal Gear ports: Commodore 64, DOS, Amiga - to the page. There seems to be less info on these and I would be happy to add more, since I played the DOS and Commodore 64 versions, plus I saw a couple of images of the Amiga version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- It's alright, but you seriously need to clean it up a bit. Please try to avoid second-person pronouns, use a more neutral third-person tone (i.e: instead of writing "you", say "the player" or Snake). —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
Unknown Metal Gear ports
[edit]I want to ask that someone please re-order my addtion of info and shape it up so it looks good. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
Release Date
[edit]Please change the release date to July 12th, 1987. That was the date that was confirmed by two separate Metal Gear books, Countdown to MGS3 and Metal Gear Solid Naked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- Uuhm, I have played the actual game way back. The screenshot in this article is too dark compared to the real thing. I have edited it to appear more like the original but i wasn't able to upload it here so yall gonna have to do without. What i did was use photoshop->Image->Adjustments->Levels... There i dragged the middle arrow untill its value was around 1.20. This made it look much better and way closer to the original. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- Geez, thanks for that. Could you try and upload it agian perhaps? †he Bread 06:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Is it notable that this was released on the same year as the original Zelda and Final Fantasy? Ffgamera (talk) 03:17, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
DOS and Commodore 64 section
[edit]I cleaned up these sections a little bit, as the grammar was awful. It's still not quite up to Wikipedia's standards, but it should be a bit easier to read. ~majinsnake~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
Early version of Metal Gear
[edit]The first Metal Gear spun off Metal Gear 2 on the MSX… not the version on NES. Nintendo liked metal gear on MSX… and asked Konami to port Metal Gear itself to the NES. The NES versions were downsized in a way and are not that good as the ones on the MSX. The NES versions were its own game /series. Sure based on same concept. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- That's mostly wrong. The NES Metal Gear was mostly based on MG1, with, so far as I can recall, zero concepts taken from MG2. It was not a straight port, however. --Golbez 18:09, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- You misunderstood Metal Gear spun off MG2 on MSX. Not vice-versa from how it sounds off you. The NES versions weren't as good/hard, I played MSX MG2: Solid Snake…which is extremely difficult. Sort of like, when Sega and Nintendo made games and counterparts off each other so there was a Sega version and an SNES version, but yet neither game was the same in gameplay. ~majinsnake~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- So what you're saying is MG2 was a sequel to MG on NES? That's the best I can figure out what you're saying. --Golbez 07:11, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, they were dubbed different names, the sequels on both systems, NES/MSX. ~majinsnake~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) July 11, 2008
- I don't have a clue what you're talking about, but it went this way:
- Metal Gear released on MSX.
- Then they made a port of the first MG for the NES, which had several differences and wasn't a straight port of the MSX original.
- Then they developed a sequel to MG on NES, the infamous Snake's Revenge.
- Which in turn inspired them to make a 'real' Metal Gear sequel for the MSX: Metal Gear 2. 84.134.192.149 14:15, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Mobile Phone Port
[edit]Metal Gear was released for cell phones in North America, too. I got the game on my cell phone through Verizon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.229.156.101 (talk) 20:10, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Metal Gear (series) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RM bot 16:00, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Change Games Section Title
[edit]I´d suggest ti change the "Games" Section title simply to "Overview". It used to list all the games but now it simply gives a short overview on the series and does not list all the games anymore.87.174.177.95 (talk) 23:55, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Wrong release dtate!
[edit]Metal Gear on MSX2 was released on July 12th, not 7th. See MGS1 manual and various official books, including Making of MGS2.
About the Phantom Pain spoiler in the plot synopsis
[edit]Someone has went ahead and added the explanation for Big Boss' survival in MG2 casually in the plot synopsis for this one (spoiler: it's about the body double). Should this be removed? A plot spoiler for a future entry shouldn't be in this in my opinion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.149.126.221 (talk) 12:22, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Agreed that the spoiler should be removed. It is the first and only mention of "Venom Snake" on the page. It imparts no useful information. 72.94.247.167 (talk) 03:46, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
In my opinion, it is a part of the canon of Metal Gear whether you like it or not. As it has to do with the physical identity of the main villain in the series, I believe it should stay. In the very least if it is removed it should be added back once the game has been out for a while as to avoid spoiling The Phantom Pain.TJD2 (talk) 01:48, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- No it shouldn't. It's a retcon, pure and simple. There was no body double twist planned when Metal Gear was released in 1987 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake had a different explanation for Big Boss surviving the events of the original game. The Venom Snake revelation is only relevant to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and it's absurd to pretend that it has any importance to the original Metal Gear from the perspective of a stand-alone work, as if Kojima had the whole twist in mind for over 28 years.
