Military Service?
[edit]The picture used shows him in a hussar uniform. As it was taken in 1910 it is either British Army or Austro-Hungarian (may be honorary). Would be worth investigating to account for this.Cloptonson (talk) 15:15, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think it must be the Staffordshire Yeomanry, and the photo was taken before 1910. A search of the online London Gazette archive shows that De Forest was commissioned into the Militia as a Second Lieutenant in the Prince of Wales's Own Norfolk Artillery (Eastern Division) on 25 August 1900.[1] He resigned his commission on 20 June 1903,[2] but this was later cancelled[3] and he became Second Lieutenant in the Staffordshire Imperial Yeomanry (Queen's Own Royal Regiment) on 4 July 1903.[4] He resigned this commission on 5 May 1906, by which time he was also an Honorary Second Lieutenant in the Army.[5]

- Who Was Who would probably have more information, but my local library has stopped its online subscription. Opera hat (talk) 23:33, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you - could you input this information to the main article - it is superior in sources and detail to what I have gathered from his biographical sketches in Who Was Who and Kelly's Handbook - perhaps immediately before the present section First World War and aftermath. I don't know if the Staffordshire Yeomanry had busbies and braided tunics but Artillery did.Cloptonson (talk) 13:04, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
