MAX vs. Max

[edit]

I brought this up on the TRAX talk page, but it's relevant here too. According to this policy page, we should be using the spelling "Max" instead of MAX, since it's pronounced as a word instead of individual letters (like UTA). If no one objects in the next few days, I'll move this page to Max (UTA) and update it to use the spelling Max.

No objections. Max it is. Thatotherperson (talk/contribs) 13:18, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Use of 'Max' naming

[edit]

With the death of the 35M line, 'Max' branding is not used on any current or planned line, nor can I find it on the UTA website. The UVX line is listed on a page simply titled Bus Rapid Transit. This leads me to believe that UTA no longer intends to use this branding, though I can find nowhere where this is confirmed. Dknelson9876 (talk) 02:55, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that MAX is probably dead. I would think the article should be moved to 'Utah Transit Authority Bus Rapid Transit' or something similar. MAX was only ever the formal name for the 35m; it doesn't seem like the other BRT routes are planned to use MAX in their official designations. Darkage7[Talk] 18:55, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Retract my former comment. On reconsideration, if we think this page needs to exist, we could rename it Utah Transit Authority Bus Rapid Transit routes. My only concern is that these lines may not meet the global standards for BRT. RickyCourtney (talk) 19:46, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To your former comment, there is already an article specifically about 3500 South MAX, this article seems like it's trying to be about all of UTA's BRT lines, current, former, and planned. Currently there's a UTA TRAX page, but also specific Blue Line (TRAX), Red Line (TRAX), and Green Line (TRAX) pages. The article name could certainly use some workshopping, since UTA hasn't been nice enough to brand all their BRTs the same way they've branded all Light Rail as TRAX. Darkage7[Talk] 19:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, my apologies, I forgot about the 3500 South MAX page when I made that comment. RickyCourtney (talk) 20:49, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think a good name would be "Enhanced Bus/BRT (Utah Transit Authority)", since both of those terms have been heavily used by UTA to describe recent projects. It also should be worth mentioning that while MAX was never given a formal meaning from UTA while the service was running, many people have retroactively defined it as "Magna Express" to match UTA's other services, (TRAX is Transit Express, UVX is Utah Valley Express, etc.). Requested move 22 July 2024

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved to UTA bus rapid transit. All three editors agree on this name. (non-admin closure) Soni (talk) 05:51, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MAX (Utah Transit Authority)BRT (Utah Transit Authority) – "MAX" is no longer used to describe any planned or existing UTA routes, and while using "BRT" to describe most of UTA's planned bus enhancement projects is somewhat dubious, it's what UTA currently uses on their website and branding. https://www.rideuta.com/Services/Bus-Rapid-Transit Nebula3lem123 (talk) 20:45, 22 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. The Night Watch (talk) 03:52, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Does UTA use a BRT brand? If not, I would oppose and suggest something more generic like "UTA bus rapid transit". -- RickyCourtney (talk) 15:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on this actually, in the website linked, UTA uses Bus Rapid Transit, and abbreviates it to BRT, so something like Bus Rapid Transit (Utah Transit Authority) to fit the format of the rest of UTA's articles would work quite well. Nebula3lem123 (talk) 20:37, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. The above thread also seems to lean that general direction. (Talk:MAX_(Utah_Transit_Authority)#Use_of_'Max'_naming) Darkage7[Talk] 01:24, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The consensus here seems to Approve any move, but Opposes the suggested move. A move to Bus Rapid Transit (Utah Transit Authority) seems to be the best move, I'll give it another 48 hours for other contributors to discuss before closing this discussion. Nebula3lem123 (talk) 18:53, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My suggestion would be UTA bus rapid transit or Utah Transit Authority bus rapid transit as bus rapid transit is not a proper noun or brand. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 19:12, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Closure Request submitted at Wikipedia:Closure_requests with both names suggested by RickyCourtney. Nebula3lem123 (talk) 23:26, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
