Biography section

[edit]

The first lines of the biography section are a total mess. I suggest moving the sentence "Lucian Blaga was a commanding personality of the Romanian culture of the interbellum period" up in the intro section, and start the bio section: "Lucian Blaga was born on 9 May ....". The sentence " The National Theater of Cluj being named NT Lucian Blaga of Cluj, and from 1998 the Romanian state put Blaga on a 5000 Lei banknote, and since 2006, the current 200 Lei." should be moved to the end (after Uni of Sibiu bears his name).

Biased language in the introduction

[edit]

Per the title the language is too biased in the following introductory quote "a prominent philosopher of the twentieth century who due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his career is barely known to the outside world". Mentioning he was a philosopher of the twentieth century, prominent in Romania would suffice. Expeditio sacra (talk) 19:28, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The phrasing was taken from the sources quoted afterwards. The general agreement of the authors discussing his work is that he was one of the important philosophers of the 20th century and it is mostly due to the troubled times he lived in that he did not achieve higher international recognition. See the introduction from the International Encyclopedia of Philosophy here for example. Also Mircea Flonta:
"There has been more written lately about Lucian Blaga than about any other Romanian philosopher."
'one of the most vivid and original contemporary philosophers' - Antonio Banfi
or the longer exposure from R T Allen.
But even without the international praises, in Philosophy, like in Science, it is not that important how popular the person was (and Blaga is widely misinterpreted by the average Romanian as either just a poet, not quite as great as Eminescu or less of a relevant philosopher than Cioran for example). Fortunately, for those educated on the topic it is visible that Blaga's work, so not Blaga's public image, is quite relevant for the 20th century segment of Philosphy in general and globally, perhaps even for the 21st.
